Account system update

In the next few days there will be a major update of the account system. This update contains a fully rewritten account system, that has some differences to the old one, of course.

One new thing for example is the handling of the age of the character. The account system doesn't store the age of a character anymore, it rather stores a birthday date. Characters who do not have this information (so currently all but mine) are automatically detected and the system will ask you to add this value.

Also the new accountsystem will solve the problem that character pictures aren't shown instandly after it got updates, because the browsers store the old picture in the cache. Furthermore it won't be possible in future to find out the ID of the character by the name of the picture.

Also the descriptions of the characters get moved from the gameserver database to the homepage database in order to decrease the load on the gameserver database.

Due to these changes of the handling of the pictures, the description and the story of the characters a full wipe of the character profiles is needed. Also all pictures will be deleted. For this reason I ask everyone who likes to keep his or her profile to store it locally in order to upload it after the update once again. Sadly there is no other way to do this. Moving the data is not possible due to the completly different types of database.

Also currently there are some character profiles that contain false encoded characters (mostly shown by black questionmarks on white ground). Those will be removed by uploading the texts again.

I can't say for sure when this update will take place. But it can't hurt to save the data a little earlier.

Support Membership for Illarion e.V. Society

Illarion is a game which is provided to you for no money. Nevertheless we (as a registered society) have to pay anyway for server, traffic, domains and so on.

The simplest way to cover our expenses in a predictable way is your Illarion society support membership for only 10 Euro per year. Because both sides should have a benefit, we thought about advantages for those members.

As fundamental idea we don't want to offer any ingame advantages, because this would be just a premium game account for people who are able to pay.

The following benefits are available for support members on request right now:

  • An own forwarding email address to your specified account email address (e.g.
  • Increase of the maximum character number of your account from 5 to 7
  • An own guild forum at (with group leader and moderator rights)

This list could be changed anytime (we already have more ideas), but there is no redress in law to get these benefits.

To become a member, just fill out the form and send it to us:

Illarion news

With today’s news, the Illarion staff wants to keep you up to date what is going on in Illarion and address two serious issues.

1. New Gamemasters
The Illarion staff welcomes its newest members, Garou and Zak, as Gamemasters. Both of them have sold their souls and will sacrifice their spare time to provide quests and support players in any way they can. Both are able to communicate in English and German. This results in the following roster of Illarion-GMs:

  • Arien Edhel
  • Estralis Seborian
  • Garou
  • Loralyn
  • Naerwyn
  • Zak

2. Latest developments
Even though the 3D-Client was (sadly) just an April Fool’s joke, our developers are realizing other useful features to be presented soon. This includes some changes on the fighting system, new dungeons and monster spawns, but most important the long awaited newbie island and a brand new homepage. Stay tuned!

3. Newbie Treatment
Since it will take some time until Noobia, the Tutorial Island, is finished, the Illarion staff will host a workshop on how to treat new players and how to deal with them. The first workshop of this kind will take place on Tuesday, 04/15 at 18:30 GMT (20:30 CEST) in German language. An English workshop will follow up, date and time are to be announced. It is an offer for veteran players to increase their abilities in handling newbie encounters, not an offer for newbies themselves. The workshop will take place ingame, just be ingame if you want to participate.

4. Out-of-character
There is poisonous venom around: OOC in Illarion. We noticed a severe increase in usage of OOC in the game that does not contribute to the game atmosphere nor to the fun people have playing this game. OOC must not be used unless necessary (e.g. to explain a newbie how to use the interface). Discussions or even bitching about ingame aspects or conflicts are greatly undesired. In case you have a serious problem with somebody’s roleplay and you cannot play along, contact a gamemaster. The OOC-rule will be enforced much more strictly from this day on. We are not addressing positive remarks like "((AFK)), ((When can we meet again?)), ((Hey, I like your new character!)) but things like "((That was unfair! The GMs will ban you!)), ((Your roleplay sucks and you just focus on your own gain!)), ((Get lost, noob, you disturb our magnificent roleplay!))".

5. Low roleplaying standard
The Illarion staff didn’t fail to notice that there are players in need of assistance to improve their roleplay. This includes the form of expression, racial roleplay and, in special, separating OOC from IC. We don’t want to remind you on the rules that state that proper language, roleplay and strict separation between OOC and IC is mandatory but offer our support. For this purpose, so called roleplaying workshops will be hosted. We will invite players with room for improvement to these workshops that address typical problems. Do not consider these invitations as punishments or accusation but as chance and offer to improve your individual roleplay. Furthermore, we’d like to ask veteran players to support the Illarion staff in hosting these workshops.
