Maintenance update and the Gods

Dear Illarionites,

Today, we release a small update that will fix some minor bugs. Also, we want to inform you about the changes to the Gods pages, Calendar pages and Signs of the Zodiac pages. During the last few weeks, we rewrote most of the present lore to adjust the information to the game. Instead of Farfaraway Land, we'll now refer much more to Illarion in the game lore.

Additionally, the following changes come with today's update:

  • A new NPC Pasinn has a quest for Viridian Needles Lair.
  • Iradona Goldschein's dialogues were corrected.

Illarion and Windows 10


Today the automated rollout of Windows 10 is launched by Microsoft. We tested Illarion on the new operating system and there are no differences to older versions of Windows. After the update there are reports of problems with the graphics device driver. Those problems will break the Illarion Client. However this update can be solved by running Windows Update and rebooting the computer. The update that is done over Windows Update does not affect the installation or the character data of the Illarion Client.

From the point of view of Illarion, you can do the update without worries.

Have fun in Illarion, no matter whether you use the new, old or no Windows at all.

Spin-Off: Legends of Illarion 2


Dyluck released his second game that is about the history of Illarion just about a week ago.

The story of the game is set in the age of dawn and tells the tales of the younger gods before they became immortal.

The game was created in the style of the old school roleplaying games that were popular on consoles about 15 to 20 years ago. Those games put the focus on the story and not that much on graphics.

Many thanks to Dyluck for this impressive fan project.

Updates of… everything


Today there was a big update. The update affected the server, client, launcher, maps and game content.

Now one after another. The changes to the server aren't all that impressive from the outside. They involve mainly bug fixes and changes required for upcoming updates.

The client on the other hand, got a lot of changes you will notice. It now takes full advantage of Java 8 that was rolled out with the last update of the launcher. Also the client got an integrated translation tool. This one will be explained in further details in the forums. Hopefully this tool will draw the English and German parts of the community closer together.

Furthermore the client got the following changes:

  • All error reports generated by the last client version that were sent by the automated error reporting are handled and resolved as far as possible.
  • The light calculation was improved: No more flickering while walking or working.
  • Movement got improved: The strange jumps and jumpy movement when walking close to other characters and monsters is gone.
  • The transparency of some UI elements got increased.
  • Unknown characters are no longer called "Someone" but get a name related to their race.
  • Many of the books in the client were changed and updated. Nine new books were added.

The launcher got a couple of updates that mainly aim to increase the general speed of the tool. The launcher is now launching faster, is able to check faster if there is a new client version and starts the client faster. The bug that caused the launcher to remain active after the main window was closed it now gone too.

The game contents and the map got the following updates:

  • Intelligence now has a small influence on how fast you learn skills.
  • The "Mental Capacity" system now reacts much slower on changed player behaviour.
  • The description of Runewick now reflects the in game reality.
  • The German translation of Yewdale (Eibenthal) is now correctly spelled in the game.
  • Elstree forest is also now translated correctly (Elsbaumwald).
  • Some items were renamed.
  • The quality display of steel boots was corrected.
  • Spawns were updated in Igruk's Cave.
  • Spawns were adjusted at the Altar of Hatred and in the Dead Marsh, which are both southeast of the Hemp Necktie Inn.
  • You should now be able to socket all bows with magical gemstones.
  • The quest "A question of honour" in Cadomyr was fixed. It will now be recognized when you visit the Archmage.
  • The damage of the fire raptor got nerfed.

There are some more minor updates. But those are the most important ones.

Update of the maps and the game content

Dear players,

Today's update brings you several changes on the map and also in game content.
For the warriors amongst you, the ability to improve armours with magical gems was added.

  • Fixed ability to chop down trees.
  • Moved the Ratman spawn from the Northern Forest Outskirts to the Plains of Silence.
  • Salavesh dungeon spawns were modified.
  • Fortress Hammerfall dungeon spawns were modified as was the map.
  • Mount Letma dungeon spawns were modified as was the map.
  • Some monsters were given magic: mystic swamp horror, mystic grave guard, mummified high priest, and mummified priest.
  • New dungeon was made ready for GM's opening quest: Viridian Needles Lair.
  • The map of the Mount Letma Mountain was altered to decrease shadows and spawn trappings and to eliminate the square look.
  • The armour defensive scaling factor, which determines the difference between the three armour types against weapons, was adjusted.
  • It was made possible to socket magical gemstones into gear of all types, including chest plates, greaves, gloves, boots, and helmets.
  • Antonius Copperhand NPC was given some pants!
  • Brassius Meres NPC was given a quest log.
  • Minor map changes were made to Grugmut's Cave.
  • NPC Lotte Silberstreif was moved.
  • The spelling of elves and dwarves was unified for the website, the scripts and the database.
