Update October 2024

Hello Illarionites!

Today we bring you a new update. It contains the following changes:

  • Enchanting, formerly known as Enchanting of Jewels, has been reworked. This includes new glyph graphics, new glyph effects (with some old returnees) and a new magic tutorial NPC by the name of Terry Ogg who can be found in Troll's Haven to guide you through your first steps of this reworked system.
  • Husbandry has been reworked. It now has a larger variety of egg, honey and milk products available for gathering that unlocks at certain intervals of husbandry proficiency, similar to gathering crafts like mining and fishing. These new resources are currently directly edible and can be sold and bought at relevant NPCs. In the future they will be used as ingredients in an upcoming update to the cooking skill.
  • Parchments can now be disposed of by burning them via a lit item such as a lit torch or lit candlestick.
  • A new horn graphic has been added. The instrumental horn that can be played and the material horn used for crafting are now two separate items. Carpenters can craft the instrumental version, while the material version can be primarily obtained from cattle.
  • Cloud Mcgoughey, David and El Cycib have retired, leaving Blight Ronin in Troll's Haven as the only trainer left in Illarion.
  • Trap doors and staircases can now be locked. In estate housing players can attach locks to these objects on their own, anywhere else a GM is required.
  • A fishing quest bug was resolved.
  • As some of you may have noticed, night returned to Illarion a while back as the daytime bug was fixed in between updates. This is just documenting the change that already happened.
  • One of the bugs that caused server rollbacks has been fixed.
  • Material errors in the housing catalogue for specific stone pillars and chests have been corrected.
  • Wall remains, more rock graphics and various dungeon item graphics have been added to the housing catalogue as buildable items for housing estates.
  • Ivy can now be grown on walls in housing.
  • Some minor backend bugfixes have been fixed.
  • The GM tool has received improvements to make it easier on the GM(s).
  • Estates in housing now have a quick demolition option that can be used to start from scratch by deleting everything on your property as immersively as feasible. This feature is only available to the tenant themselves, not guests or builders.
  • The magic tutorial that has new mages attuning themselves to magic for the first time has had a minor change that introduces you to the magic tutorial NPC in Troll's Haven, Terry Ogg, as part of it.
  • A large amount of new drinking and eating vessel graphics have been added to the game. This includes new functionality such as requiring drinking vessels to drink liquors or being able to transfer tea into tea pots or wine into serving jugs for a more immersive experience. Some items such as juice bottles will still be drunk directly from the bottle, although even these have new graphics.
  • Town leaders will now be able to use more discretion when it comes to town license requirements for the use of static tools, being able to make individual exceptions rather than always punishing entire realms at a time.
  • Honeycombs now have an additional intermediary step of being pressed into honey jars before being used in cooking.

Have fun!

Update January 2024

Hello and happy New Year, Illarionites!

To bring in the new year, today we bring you an update on the larger side, with the following changes:

  • Housing is here bringing more autonomy to you, the players. All you need to get started is a construction trowel, obtained from blacksmiths or blacksmithing merchants, and a property where you have rights to build.

Property deeds are now in place for each property, providing information about tenancy.

Tenants of existing houses and flats can now change the furniture on their property by hiring another player character with the relevant skill to do so, or even do it themselves if they have the skill. Some other minor features can be discovered in game.

There are also ten new estates added. Three for each realm, and an additional one for outlaws somewhere in the wilds. While existing houses can't be torn down, these estates will allow for completely free building of walls, stairs, basements, etc. for a total of four layers of housing (basement, main floor, upper floor, roof). Only items such as depots, resources, static tools and permanent lights are currently inaccessible.

To allow for this kind of autonomy, we've had to sacrifice some levels of immersion. In such cases, they will be relatively obvious, and we are trusting our players to use appropriate discretion to make it immersive for you and those around you.

  • Cooking improvement: All food can now reach higher rarities. Previously those that did not provide stats were excluded, this is no longer the case.

  • Messenger costs have been lowered.

  • You will now receive an inform upon login if there are unread messages at a bulletin board relevant to your character.

  • Both in preparation for the teleportation magic in the upcoming magic system, and for pvp and pve balancing purposes, teleportation pedestals, ferries and teleportation books now have a casting time.

  • Repair kits now have multiple uses, and are scaled based on the value of the item being repaired. Using repair kits as close as possible to the level of the item being repaired is still the most efficient.

  • The fishing system has been expanded. It now includes a total of 11 kinds of fish, and an additional tool in the form of a fishing net.

  • Three new fish dishes are added with more to come in future updates.

  • New rose bush graphics have been added, available via the housing systems building menu.

  • Glyph shards have received new graphics so that they are all visually distinct from one another.

  • The client now has support for Azerty style keyboards.

  • The colour palette used for text in the client has been updated to a more user friendly one.

  • Redundant NPC health status text has been hidden.

  • There is now the option to hide NPC speech from either your chat box in game, your chat log out of game, or both.

  • You can now turn on an alert that lets you know if a player is trying to communicate with you when you are AFK. This alert only activates when you have been afk for 5 minutes, so it will not spam you during roleplay. If you want to use your monitor for something else while waiting for roleplay, however, this function will alert you of any player communication happening near your character!

  • Many minor bugs and typos have been resolved.

Have fun!

Illarion Core Content Survey

Dear Illarionites,

This survey will help the Illarion team separate core from non-core content and assist in the selection of items that can be "improved by deletion". It is in response to the Illarion Workshop on Player Impact on the Game and the topic of over-complexity of the game.

Update of the launcher January 2023

Dear Illarionites,

We have just released an update to the Illarion Launcher. The next time you launch it, a popup should appear indicating the availability of the update. We recommend you to install it.

The update fixes minor bugs in the launcher, removes buttons that are no longer needed, and adds buttons for quick access to the forum and Discord. Furthermore, the update allows us to make future changes to the launcher more easily.

Enjoy!

Client Update December 2022

Greetings Illarionites,

Today we bring you the details of our most recent client update!

If you weren't already using the development client, you may have noticed the client looks a little bit different now. The status bars have been made smaller, the menu icons are now vertical and the mana bar is now hidden for those who are not mages and thus have no use for it! This is all in an effort to make the screen feel less cluttered and less obstructive to what is going on in the world around you, so we hope you welcome these changes.

Additionally, while we still have no fix for the server function that allows the client to determine what time of the day it is, there has been a temporary fix applied; Brágon has kindly blessed Illarion with eternal daylight, at least until we get that issue sorted. No more random solar eclipses in the middle of the day!

Have fun!
