Update November 2022 Dear Illarionites, It has been a while since we released our last update, so this one better be a big one! We added a variety of new features that we designed to support character interaction, one of the main objectives of Illarion development. If you want to help us on our journey to make Illarion a better game, consider contributing to our open source development! Even small contributions like correcting typos or testing new features before release help. Join our Discord chat if you haven’t already! Please find below the patch notes for this update: - Players can now combine parchments into books (not to be confused with official books that you find in bookshelves).
- The previous repair system has been replaced with one revolving around repair kits. Any craft that has products that can be repaired will now have craftable repair kits of various levels.
- An in game messenger has been added to the Troll’s Haven bulletin board, allowing written parchments to be sent between players. These will be received either immediately, if the recipient is online, or upon login, if the recipient is offline at the time of sending.
- An unintended consequence of the implementation of rare products in cooking has been resolved. Cooking will now allow you to use rare ingredients: e.g. smoked venison ends up rare and you wanted to use it in another dish? Now you can. This also provides an additional minor increased chance to the final product being rare as well.
- A typo was corrected in one of the random questions you might be asked when trying to become an alchemist.
- The trainer NPCs had some backend stuff changed.
- Fijanna Squall’s functionality has been restored.
- A framework has been put in place for unique potions in alchemy. This opens up opportunity for the implementation of customised player-invented potions and the ability for the creator to teach their recipe to other alchemists through use of a cauldron. See https://illarion.org/community/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&p=717273#p717273 for information on how your alchemist can have their own invention put into the game!
- The framework has been added to make salve jars usable in alchemy for specific salves. If you have any salve ideas, see the forum thread above about potions.
- A new item, the copper hand-bell, can now be crafted.
Hospital bells have been added to allow players to ring for aid from other players in the vicinity. - Some crafting recipes have had their ingredients rebalanced.
- The weight of cheese has been reduced by half.
- A bug that caused an endless amount of enraged Akaltut to spawn has been fixed.
When splitting an item stack into multiples, the client will now remember the last input for the current session, instead of defaulting to one. - The duration of light sources were rebalanced. All non-permanent light sources will now last one hour, meaning some like torches will last a shorter duration than in the past, while others such as candles will last a longer time.
- Traps take longer to rot now.
- Troll’s Haven is now a monster safe zone.
- Treasures could be hidden in more regions.
- A clearer way to start a new line when writing parchments has been added, along with the option not to.
- An inform will now be received if a gem is in a depot or otherwise fails the check when socketing gems.

Update July 2022 Dear Illarionites, We proudly present the next content update that also brings you a small client update. Here are the main changes: - Iron ore veins’ haul is doubled. Happy mining!
- Finding gems no longer counts towards vein depletion
- Added warning message alerts what step of a recipe alchemists were on if their mortar breaks mid-recipe
- Prevent filling glasses from decorative bottles
- Removed relict glyph effects in crafting/repair
- First draft adjustment to gem bonus in fighting
- Improvements to GM tools for changing attributes
- Fixed a bug that made it very difficult to obtain rare food items
- Fixed problem that made it impossible to attack opponents wearing special combinations of weapons/shields
- Fixed an alchemy bug that made a potion moved to a bottle from a cauldron have the potion effect set mistakenly to 0
- Fixed a bug with automatic unequipping of broken items losing their special properties
- Removal of spammy auto-emotes from fighting
- Increased parchment text limit from 240 characters to 986, inline with the existing limit on bulletin message boards
- Fixed a (13 month old!) bug that made is so crafting did not reduce the food bar
- Gem values in armour and weapons now reflect an accurate percentage of how much they affect your defensive/offensive values
- Fixed a bug that allowed quills to be used in the bag. Also added a message when using empty parchments to use a quill to write on it.
- When entering a number above the limit of 250 (now in line with the trading limit instead of being an odd 255) in the crafting dialogue box, it will now default to 250 instead of being set to a much lower and random seeming number that depended on input
- Attempting to use a gem grinder with empty hands will no longer produce an additional inform about there not being a kiln nearby to work with. Any other similar occurrences should also have been fixed by this change, if there are any.
- NPC Fijanna Squall was moved to a new location

Update August 2021 Dear Illarionites, Today, after quite some time, we eventually release the next update of game content. It focuses on the tutorial and the area around the Hemp Necktie Inn, baptised “Troll's Haven”. The tutorial was completely rewritten to integrate it into the actual game and make it an inline part of the experience for new players rather than a separate, artificial island that breaks immersion. From this change, we expect that new players learn from the very beginning what Illarion is all about and that they get integrated into the community of Illarionites from their first minute on. We invite you to create a new character to test the new tutorial and share your impression with us! We also worked on some other topics. A change that will clearly affect gameplay is that from now on, changing your equipment will cause your character to pause fighting for a couple of seconds. The character remains mobile and can do all other actions other than fighting. This change is necessary to hamper immersion breaking equipment swapping to adjust to technical benefits and will also increase the tactical requirements on fights. Furthermore, we fixed several small bugs and improved texts. For a list of the most relevant changes, see here: https://github.com/Illarion-eV/Illarion-Content/milestone/8. We also had a server update quite recently that we have not announced in detail yet. The server now supports dynamic changes in character walking/running speed. This will become very useful for magic spells. Also, we can now trigger events based on character speech – “Open sesame!”. Further work went into significantly improving the server performance and stability. Our next steps, along with implementing your feedback on the tutorial, will focus on magic and housing. For these big features, we have now created two new servers in addition to the game server and the development server, replacing the obsolete test server. This way, everyone can test the development progress without having to bother with Git, Docker and the local server. We will continue to involve you in the development process and make it as transparent as possible. If you are interested in contributing to Illarion’s development, be it as tester, scripter or coder, please get in touch with the team on our Discord server, channels #beginners and #contributions.
