Story of the character

𓆩♡𓆪 In the age of Kharud’s rising, when the ancient mountain stronghold of Dur Khazadun stood unshaken, its halls rang with the hammer and song of dwarves—proud, mighty, and deeply devout to Irmorom and Oldra. Among the most revered in the kingdom was the Queen Brunna Earthsong, High Priestess of Oldra, wife to King Durharn Stonevein, and mother to the young prince Durgan. Beneath the stone-vaulted heavens of Dur Khazadun, peace and prosperity reigned—until the Dark Sorcerer’s shadows crept in.

Like all the mighty cities and kingdoms, Kharud or his agents sought the ruin of Dur Khazadun. In his cunning, whispers wove deceit into the ears of Vorrak the Bitter, Durharn's jealous younger brother. With a serpent's tongue, the dark ones stirred envy and ambition, twisting Vorrak's heart against his kin. The trap was laid: evidence and witnesses were brought before the court to accuse Brunna of adultery with Vorrak. Though the priests and priestesses of Oldra—every last one—vowed her innocence and pledged their lives upon it, King Durharn, blinded by wrath and shame, ordered their execution.

As Brunna stood at the gallows, her son hidden away by loyalists, she called out to Oldra and Ushara, pronouncing a curse upon the king and his bloodline: "Let no child be born beneath stone and root until my truth is revealed. May the womb of the mountain wither and the halls echo no laughter until justice is known!"

Her words had scarcely faded when the axe fell and the Wrath of the Gods with it. The mountain shook, roaring like a beast in pain. Dur Khazadun split asunder, collapsing into a vast chasm, and the Verdant Deep was born—a great fissure where mountain and forest embraced. The land bloomed wildly in places, as if life struggled to reclaim what vengeance had shattered. The dwarves, bereft of children and plagued by omens, slowly abandoned the ruins, and Durharn lived to see his kingdom crumble into dust.

Fifty years passed.

From a distant realm, a priestess of Oldra named Aelra Oinbrok received a vision—a lush and fertile place where the earth yearned for healing, and where the bloodline of Brunna still lived. Guided by the goddess, Aelra sought the ancient scrolls and stone tablets about Dur Khazadun, Brunna, and King Durharn. As if Nargun owed Oldra a favor, she found the king’s Rune of Heritage—detailing Durgan and his claim. With the vital information, the priestess ventured to the Verdant Deep. In time, she discovered Durgan’s whereabouts in a secluded glen. Barely within the shadow of the Verdant’s twin peaks, the rightful heir of Dur Khazadun lived a meager, humble life alone. Together, they roused the scattered dwarves and called them home to witness the rightful king awaken the sigil stones of the ruined fortress and promise to build a city worthy of life and prosperity. He called it Brunhal—in honor of his mother and vowed to build the largest temple to Oldra ever made.

From this city, decades later, came Thelena Khazara, a descendant of Aelra's priestly line, and devoted handmaiden of Oldra. Broad of form and warm of spirit, Thelena is the embodiment of earth’s enduring bounty—her curves tell of fertility, her presence of hearth and home. Her voice carries the echo of the deep places, and in her eyes burns the quiet, unyielding flame of life reborn. In her role, she tends the sacred groves of the Verdant Deep, communes with the living stone, and blesses the fields and forges of Brunhal.

However, Thelena has recently been plagued by vivid nightmares and disturbing visions. She dreams of a black, vaporous mist seeping from an explosion of some kind, accompanied by a deep, unnatural ooze. In the vision, she sees forces of life being drained and the balance of nature disturbed. Troubled by these dreams, she feels a calling beyond her beloved borders, where the black mist may be tied to a growing corruption that threatens Ushara’s intended design and Oldra's warding. Guided by the goddess, she knows she must travel abroad and seek the source of this disturbance.

Though she had no discernible way forward, Durgan’s High Chancellor, Thrain Ironscribe, advised visiting the city of Galmair on the Illarion peninsula. There, she could at least start her search under the protection of their renowned trading partner, Don Valerio Guilianni. 𓆩♡𓆪
