Description of the character

S

alathe is large lizard that has mainly green scales with a light yellow hue. He has very thick, large pointed scales. These kind of scales are uncommon in a lizard and evolve over a few hundred years of a lizard constantly in battle and having to regrow his scales. Over time, the scales will become thicker and more defensive, hence the pointed feature.

He has a rather noticeable claw-like scar reaching from his left cheek down to his chest. His tail doesn't appear to be the strongest. It is shorter than normal and for those that spend time around him, one may notice that it seldom even moves.

Salathe typically has a serious manner about him, but can easily be influenced by humor. When made angry, he can become infuriated very quickly and resort to violence to resolve the issue at hand. His common is exceptionally well spoken due to the fact that his tongue is shortened. Because of this he can not speak lizard tongue, and does not have a lisp. Having spent a majority of his life around humans and elves, he does not share many of the same mannerisms as most lizards.

Story of the character

S

alathe was born as a slave in a small human kingdom. The slave owners disliked the lizards maintaining a sense of uniqueness and sought to remove any such features. Because of this, Salathe's tongue was short for the purpose to remove the lizards lisp, and not allow them to speak their native tounge. The process was done several times at a young age in order to surpass the infant lizard's regeneration process.

He lived the life of a slave for almost 20 years until his parents were killed in an incident with the slave owners. Salathe, along with some of the other slaves staged a riot and managed to slay not only the owners, but all the villagers and a large number of members from the kingdom. Only a handful of lizards survived and each were split up in the incident.

For the next hundred or so years, Salathe sought to explore the world outside of the cage and chains which he was confined in. He lived the life of an adventurer and traveled between villages and kingdoms, volunteering his service to any just cause he was able to find. He fought in countless battles and continued this until he came across a certain wizard. As certain events came to pass, the wizard targeted Salathe to become his servant. The wizard placed a sort of curse on Salathe, and aimed to use him to carry out the wizard's malice tasks. If he were to disobey, or to speak of who his new 'master' was, then the curse would would wipe his memory and also remove all of his abilities.

After he was set out on his first task, he felt no different as he did as a child being forced into a cage and only being let out in chains. He firmly decided he would rather fall victim to this curse rather than do the wizard's bidding. Not only to be free, but to avoid tarnishing his hands in the blood of innocents.

Deciding this, he threw himself off of the ledge of the wizard's tower, into the ocean. Salathe woke up some time later in the library of Trollsbane, to find an elf named Damien aiding him. Having only the knowledge of his own name, he began his new life on Gobaith.

He quickly began to relearn all aspects of combat, which seemed to come rather easy to him. He also learnt some rather uncharacteristic like talents, such as brewing, farming and became a bartender in Tialdin's inn, and as well created the popular sport of 'onionball'. He quickly made friends and lead a rather simple life.

It wasn't long until turmoil found him again, and his sense of pride and justice quickly thrust him into the middle of many battles and events, including. He solely held the east wall during the 'Day of Storms', had numerous encounters with Drahken and Ungolianth, discovered Ushara's remedy for the undead curse, faced off against Gerard and his golem minions, had the unfortunate pleasure of being on a first name basis with each of the Lich Lords during the Lich Wars, and slew Nightmare, a demon general of Madrook Na'haan and claimed victory of his demon games. The demon, Nightmare, left a considerable wound on Salathe, which is shown as a very clear scar on his face. With the scar remained Nightmare's touch, which seldom allows Salathe to sleep. Because of this, Salathe has adapted to going weeks at a time without sleeping.

Over time, the remains of Nightmare's touch haunted him and as the pain became too much he did many unforgivable acts. These choices led him to a jail, another cage. In this cell he had no room to sand, nor lay down. It was so confined that his tail fell off and was unable to grow back. In his weakness and constant starvation, his scales also fell off. It was two years which he spent in this prison, though to him, it seemed as if it was an eternity. Two years, he ate only one meal of bread and water a day, and for two years, he never left the confinement of the cage. When he was released and the guards dragged him to the exit of the prison, they laughed and heckled Salathe as he attempted to stand. The sun was so bright, he thought he had gone blind because of it, or lost his ability to see in the darkness of his cell. He was barely able to use his mind, and couldn't comprehend what was being said or what was happening, but even using all of his possible strength, he was still unable to stand or even crawl. So he again, faded away.

For the second time in his life, he awoke in a strange place, but this time atleast held a vague memory of what happened. The innkeeper told him a man that found him in the streets paid for two weeks stay and the minimum amount of food. Salathe took this opportunity to find some work at the local smith, though he was weak and unable to craft anything of real value. It took almost a year before he was able feel as if he had strength. Though... he was unable to speak out loud and neither his scale nor his tail grew back. His mind had also recovered and was able to recall the events of his life. He felt an incredible amount of shame for what he had done and held no ill will against those who imprisoned him. He decided he brought heavy shame upon the name he built for himself not only on the island of Gobaith, but the many kingdoms and towns which he aided in his journeys. Because of this, he threw away his name and brought up again his goal to venture between towns and villages offer his services in self sacrifice in order to redeem himself in the eyes of Malachin.

He first returned to Gobaith, where his armory was. He decided to use Gobaith as a place to return to for rest, and also to remain the home of his armory. Upon returning, a massive tournament was being held. He wanted to enter to see if he had truly regained his strength. To enter, he needed a name which he was unable to give. A group of halflings which were bothering him gave him the name of Behemoth, which the registrar accepted. Entering into the tournament under the name Behemoth, he defeated all of his opponents and won the tournament and quickly found a new name. Though various people gave him various names, such as Greenfren, Slash, and Dragslay Notail.... Behemoth remained the most common. He tended to stay out of major events and focused on building his armory and took long leaves of absence to continue his goal. Although only a few knew him to be Salathe, he remained a stranger to many of his long time friends, who he was happy to see live succesful lives.

After almost two decades of this, his scales managed to grow back as strong as ever and he has seen redemption. His tail remains weak but he has regained his former self and looks to future in a new land.
