Description of the character

A tiny, undernourished female halfling with flaming Orange hair, dressed in grey rags, barefoot and with a crafting tool in hand. Her appearance appears that of a simple slave, but her inner fire of loyalty shines through her eyes and iron will to serve, to repay a lifedebt that can never be truly repaid.

Story of the character

T

aken from her village by an Orc raiding party when she was very young, she was named Carrot due to her hair and constant teasing about eating her by her Orc captives. For years, she served her Orc captors as a scullery maid, meat roaster and gatherer, never allowed to leave.

One night, she saw an opportunity to escape and took it. She ventured out of the caves, into the woods and into the night. Howls emanated in the distance as wolves detected new prey, moving through the trees. Closer and closer they got, while her legs tried to run as fast as they could. She tripped and the wolves were upon her, starting to bite and rip her flesh. All hope seemed lost and she surrendered herself to her fate. Suddenly with a snarl, one of the wolves was beaten aside by the heavy club of the Chief of the Orc clan she had escaped from. One wolf after another fell to the mighty chief's club, until she was saved, barely breathing, bleeding out and nearly lifeless. In a tender act of mercy uncommon among Orcs, the Chief cradled her little body and returned to the Cave to tend her wounds.

Three days later, she awoke to the Chief personally tending to her and she pledged her loyalty to him at once. He smiled and praised her for being a true and loyal snaga. With stares from his clan, he pronounced that she was his and no other. Finally, she was protected from the others and swore to repay her life debt with loyal and excellent service.

Over the next two years, she served him faithfully, gathering wood, making clubs and spears, gathering food and cooking roasted meats and simple dishes for him, which he gave to the Clan. Her work was His credit, and he repaid her work with praise, and protection. She knew her place in the World and was contented.

Then, in year 76, the Clan came under attack and was forced from their caves. They migrated to the Sea to seek passage, but as they were to board a ship, they were under attack again. The Chief and a few other warriors volunteered to stay behind to delay the attackers so the Clan could escape, and Carrot resigned herself to stay with her Chief, but was refused. The Chief, in his final words to her, ordered her to serve the next Chief just as faithfully as she did him, for the Clan's sake. Only in this way could she repay him. With that, she was carried crying onto the last ship leaving for Illarion, where the advance party of the Clan had already sailed.
