Description of the character

Sir Winrich Vinicius is a stout, Albarian knight past his prime, to which his portly stature leaves no doubt. He displays a jovial, spirited, and witty disposition, and a fondness for meat and drink. His garb has the colour of red wine, and his coat of arms bears a chalice and grapes, all symbols of his devotion to Adron and His intoxicating blessings.

Despite his self-indulgent and bumbling bearing, Sir Winrich has not yet forgotten the code of chivalry to which he is bound by blood and oath, and retains a strong sense of honour, ready to gallantly defend all that is right and just.

Story of the character

L

andless and impoverished, with nothing to his name but his title and sword, this has-been Albarian knight wasted away his days and coin at taverns near and far, indulging in drink and tall tales of his alleged adventures.

Having seen much blood and death in his younger years, Sir Winrich came to realise that a true knight ought not live for fighting, but rather fight for a peaceful life. Observing the motley patrons of many a tavern hither and yonder, Sir Winrich deduced that feasting and revelling with friends in peacetime is the pinnacle of bliss for all men, be they nobles or common peasants. Therefore, unlike other knights, he devoted himself not to one martial deity or another, but to the Lord of festivals and wine, believing that war is but a necessary evil, so that one can enjoy peace and pastime with good company.

After a particularly long and wild night of carousing, a hungover Sir Winrich somehow awoke aboard a ship on the high seas, being as surprised about his circumstances as was the crew who found him in their cargo hold. Having no use for a plump stowaway, they took Sir Winrich's remaining coin as fare and threw him out at the next harbour on their route, the unremarkable port of Troll's Haven.
