So dont use it.
I understood this as a big NO to your question Grant.. :D
I never tailored but I guess puncture skill or whatever is not part of that, and he clearly says not to use a needle to fight and if the needle is the only puncture "weapon" getting any skill in it would be kinda impossible.
Besides it is totally ridiculous we can do better than this...

Then why in the heck do we have the skill? For realism? ... not exactly realistic if you can't use a skill you learn...

Yes keiken, please elaborate. If lady dwarves are aloud to run around casting ice flames than why can't somebody use a needle as a weapon. You might poke somebody's eye out with that thing, but I think thats the idea.

Its my personal "Powergame-o-Meter".
Once in a while, when I am in the mood, I check this skill.
If someone appears with a insane high amount at this skill ....

... well I have plenty ways to be "mean" to him.

That sounds as stupid as it is.
Why would you want to kill zombies with scissors when you have the possibility to use sword??

You use scissors to fight if you're not good with the sword like mages.

Hillarous, a Battle-Tailor in one Hand a Needle in the other a Scissor, fighting with the Spawns of the Underworlds.
Not very clever, isnt it?

As I said, dont be too suprised to meet me.

Uh yea that makes sence....if I was a really weak person I would attack an undead creature in melee combat that uses a sword or dagger with scissors and probably try to cut his sword in half....

If I was a physically weak mage and absolutley could not cast a spell and had nowhere to run so I had to go in melee combat with a zombie I would use long long long stick prefferably sharp at the end and try to poke it to death at a good distance. And if it got real close I would use an easy to handle dagger if I was too weak to properly wield a sword.

If I was however mentally ill perhaps I would take up a pair of scissors and go "snip snip" laughing madly while foaming from the mouth and then try to cut the zombie to pieces as well as biting at it...

And hmm Battle-Tailor lol yea thats good, try to fix up the zombie a bit with scissors and needle and some thread. Some nice colour perhaps some small flowers or a square scottish type pattern.

I guess theres the weight. By the way, maybe there should be some kind of a logging timer so that if a player is in a fight they can't log out for a certain amount of time afterwards. That would help a lot with problems like this one.

I think they are trying to avoid a "10 second rule" like runescape.

Needles can be a very good weapon to master, throwing-wise. More easily concealable than daggers, harder to detect, and less suspicious. Also, if you are really good with them, they can do more than daggers. There is one guy on China, I think, that could throw them through closed glass windows and still hit the person on the other side, killing them. I don't remember much about it, but I do know that he could use them as a lethal weapon.
