Plates

Post by PurpleMonkeys »

Go into your kitchen( or where ever you keep your plates) and try putting one on top of the other.. is it possible? yes! should it be in the game? yes! so why isn't it???

I suspect it is the way it is, because you can stack herbs on a plate, which is barely useful and makes cooking even more painful.

You could stack plates before. I dunno why it was changed but it's complete and utter crap.

Before you continue this bludgeoning on the staff, I recall why it is the way it is. They needed a tool to make it so herbs are stackable. They were in the proccess of making a basket, but due to the way things are implimented, it wouldn't have made it in a timely fashion. Instead, they used plates, and then plates became unstackable. It is a temporary solution. Relax.

Temporary? Feels like it's been like that for ages.

All is said. It is a temporary solution that will be replaced by something good (baskets) asap. Want to speed up things? Help developing Illarion! :-P

don't you just need a graphic? because unless illarion works on different coding then i currently believe the change would be really quick and easy.

We have the graphic. Most probably, it will be usable with the next client update. The changes, scriptwise, are easy and quick, but even easy and quick things need somebody who does them.

The script is written in lua, there's documentation for the illarion script if you look for it, martin (I think) wrote a really good document.

And you can use any program which formats plain text to edit it - such as notepad. I use notepad++ which is free.

To make the change all you'd need is 2 database changes and a copy-paste from one scipt to the other.

ok. have notepad, i think i have an understanding of the script, if i saw it i would have a better understanding of it. i am just thinking i may want to try my hand at some in my spare time. not sure what you mean with the two database changes thing though, sure someone could explain it further.

Basically what a script does is decide what happens when a player interacts with an item - whether its using it, or clicking on it et cetera.

Stuff like how much items weigh, whether they stack, repairs et cetera are stored in the database, only Nitram (and the rest of the upper brass) have access to that.

If you want to become a scripter -find martin's documentation, then when you're confident talk to Nitram - he'll give you a very very easy test, and BAM a scripter is you.

Correct me if wrong, the "baskets" when used for herbs decreases the quality of the herb i.e. baskets are only used if you want to collect some to sell.

How many druids actually use the plate/basket? I actually used it more in my fighter char when we could add fruit to it
