A few curious questions

Post by Bane Thornwood »

Hey to all. I'm new to the game but I've played a bit over the last few days and am starting to get into it and trying to learn most things IG but I have a few questions I hope all you guys can answer :) I went over most of this forum already so I don't think these are asked already.

1. Can you really destroy buildings and things with fire? Don't want to try IG in case a mob kills me for burning the town :P

2.Is there anywhere I can find an up-to-date map of the island that would show what town/guilds claim what territory?

3.What happens with say a big public death? Like say the Queen of Silverbrand hired an assassin to kill the Duchess of Troll's Bane or something for a good RP reason like gaining political influence. Would she be "dead" and there be a new duke/duchess elected or would she just carry on as duchess? (I'm just using this as an example to see how a sort of big public death would be expoected to work)

4.Is there anywhere I can find out whats been implemented or suspended and such? Like is magic still around or Herb lore for example? Cause its very confusing to see all the talk about it in the forums and then it said about it not being around anymore and I'm afraid to ask IC cause if its not in the game anymore my char shouldnt even know about it.

5.Are there Skill Caps or can you only be so good at certain things? I didn't pay too much attention to my attributes cause I thought I could do whatever I wanted anyway but would like to know now in case I cant become a baker or whatever I finally decide to be.

Anyway that's all I can think of for now. Thanks for your time and hopefully see you all IG soon :D

I'd be glad to answer as many questions as I can :) Someone please correct me if I'm wrong for whatever reason.

1) If I remember correctly, yes, fires can destroy buildings. I don't remember if they affect walls or not, but the items inside can be destroyed.

2) I'm pretty sure there's one around somewhere, I'll go search for it and add a link to it if I find one.

3) If someone were to die/be killed permanently (what we call perma-death) then yes, the character would be dead in all aspects, someone would take over their role if they were in a position of power, etc. However: people are not allowed to decide whether another player's character goes through perma-death. If the player in question has given consent and agreed that the character will die, then things can be roleplayed accordingly with an execution or such.

This makes things difficult, however, when it comes to situations in which the other player does not give consent for the execution. For this reason, characters usually refrain from roleplayed assassinations (or planning any public ones) until consent has been given.

4) Magic is implemented, yes. The current way to learn magic is to join the magic academy (or the Varshikar Magic University or something, don't know much about this one) and find a mage teacher who will teach your character the runes to perform magic.

Druidism and herblore are also implemented, druidism is rather new as well, so most are still trying to figure things out. I think it's a very interesting and an amazing system!

So far, the priest system and bard system are under concept development.

5) There is a skill cap that resets after a certain amount of time has expires. All in all, you -could- level up every skill* to the max if you dedicated lots of time to it. But you can only earn so much skill in one day.

*Except magic and druid skills, those two cannot both be learned.

1. Wildfires can destroy the whole map if they go unnoticed and yes even whole towns, but unless its an accident or your char has a good reason to start a wildfire, I think you need to ask a gm before hand aswell, you should try to lit to many campfires at once

2.
Varshikar claims the dessert and part of the ogre mountains.
Greenbriar claims the whole briar island except the Caelum
Trollsbanes map can be seen on the guildboards
Silverbrand claims the whole copper mountains

Guilds normally claim the land their Building stands on.

3. First of all, if you want to rp kill someone you need the po to accept, you can however state many unlethal attacks, which eventually lets someone step down.

4.Try the wikipedia page, most things are listed there and in case you ever encounter something that noone ever has heard, just say your char heard some rumors or something.

5. Yes you can only learn a skill to a certaint degree, before you start loosing concentrtion which reduces the gain of skillpoints and thus lets you learn slower, staying ig doing nothing skillrelated or logging out fills the "concentration" again, but staying ig does it much faster than logging out.

Welcome back than :)

1. Yes that's true but just like in real life not really liked

2. In some threads on the guild board are such maps. Here is one for example, it's not really up to date but the main part hasn't changed:

3. Permanent death needs the agreement of the player. You can't just hire an assassin to kill someone if this someone doesn't agree on the death  You can of course try to kill him or her though but it is up do them if they die or are just wounded.

4. The best way is to ask really :) Either ic or here on the boards or even in the chat.

5. You can train almost every skill there is, but in the end it really depends on your attributes :) Different professions need different attributes. You can still learn the skill but it may take you either longer to max it or doesn't make you as good as someone who has the more flitting attributes.
