Different Cuts of Gems

Different Cuts of Gems
Can we have gems of different sizes and cuts? Not all gems are the same after all. When we dig a gem out of the ground, it could be one of several different sizes (with the largest being the most rare of course.) Then a gem cutter could choose what style they wanted to cut the gem in. A quick search on google came up with the following cuts:
Round - round
Pear - pear shaped, like the fruit
Emerald - square with angled edges
Princess - I can't be sure, but it looked squarish with a twist in the middle
Radiant - about the same as princess, but with slightly rounded corners
Oval - oval
Triangle - triangle
Heart - heart
Marquis - an oval pointed at both ends
If anyone knows more about gems, feel free to give more accurate descriptions and a wider variety of cuts that we could use.
On a related note, could goldsmiths create a necklace with gems in it? It could be worn in the amulet spot. It doesn't have to have any special properties, it'd just be something to add variety.

What would be the point of differently shaped gems? Can you not use your imagination on this small technicality?
I know that new items for implementation are already planned...if you want goldsmith's to be able to make necklaces why don't you make the graphic for the necklace and post it in the Graphics Board? Doing so will raise the chances of its implementation.

The point? Why does there have to be a point? Some things would just be nice for a little variety, not necessarily because they affect any particular skill or stat. Variety makes the game just a little more interesting. Sure I can RP it, and I do. Having it in game would just be an added advantage. That's why I posted the suggestion here.
I would create the graphic for a necklace, but I don't know how.

as an example, i belive blue stone increases your mana? so, if you get a large bluestone you can get a different cut. depending on the cut changes the amount of mana you get. if yiou have a larg gem and cut the ston bad you will jsut get back a smaller gem so you can try again, jsut for a smaller, lesser cut.
something like this?
something like this?
yes i had an idea of making a small/medium/big sized gemstones, i think this is a good idea but not quite so many cuts. maybe like 5 cuts or so would be adequate. also it might be required to have two nuggets to make say a big gemstone ring? i think this would help the jewalry business alot and i like luxery items. (cant wait for luxery points)

Would anybody really mind if there weren't graphics for every cut? I'm not working on this or anything, so don't get that impression. I've just been thinking about how to make it a little easier to implement (and therefore more likely.) I say only have graphics for every size and gem. If you wanted to know the cut, you would have to click on it. When you clicked on it it would say:
A [size], [cut] cut, [gem] ring
ex. A large, pear cut, diamond ring
ex. A large, marquis cut, topaz ring
I say this because there are 7 types of gems, I listed 9 cuts, and there would be mutliple sizes. If there were five sizes and we used all nine cuts, that would be 315 graphcs, just for rings. Not likely to happen. Under these circumstance, this idea would cut the number of graphics to 35, 7 of which are already created (the rings already ingame.) This would only leave 28 new graphics to be done. Granted that's still alot, but much more doable than 315.
@Drogla - No, I think you misunderstood what I meant. A cut is not dependant on the size. They are completely separate. A cut is the shape of the gem after you cut it. It can be round, square, etc. No cut is good or bad (in real life, some are considered more beautiful than others for particular uses, but that wouldn't matter in the game,) but some cuts are harder to do than others. If you mess up a cut, you lose the entire gem, just like you do now, not get a smaller one back. And please type a little more accurately Drogla. It's hard to understand what you're saying if your typing is sloppy

also, there is supposed to be a "luxus-status" (dont know how its named correctly
)
implented in the game later. This could also be good for that.
For example, it increases this status if you wear rings/necklace etc.
and the bigger gems are implented the more it increases this.
Of course, they'd have to break some time...

I relize this topic is old, real old, however I happend apon an excellent site for gemcutting, it has hundreds of plans for different cuts. It has the top and side veiw of every cut. Using splines would probobly be the easier way than starting with a primitive.
