Using titles for description.

Post by Ellaron »

Now we have this new title thing I have a question. Would it be alright to have a simple description in there instead of an actual title. I'm not thinking of pages but just a couple of words such as old man, smithy, sister / brother / father (religious) or whatever. My motive for asking is one of my characters is hard of thinking, and I would like to indicate that fact in some other way as well as in the way he acts. It's hard to RP a simpleton but fun, though some people think it's me and not him thats got the problem :) . It would also allow a person with a trade to let every one know.

Agreed, I dont want a giant text box appearing when I introduce to someone, obviously. :D
If it isn't already then it should be what you are, like Elllaron mentioned.

For example:
Kringin-Warrior(retired),merchant, carpenter, farmer

@ Ellaron

Instead of using the prefix command to indicate your title or character trait you should use the suffix command. !suffix (text) would allow you to indicate your character's name as well as a well known trait for your character, such as 'the slow' or something of this nature. This would allow you to be 'Ellaron the slow' or any other thing you wish to be known as. This would be more of a nickname or common trait associated with your character than a title, although technically it is a title.

The titles should be kept short for simplicity and not to give too much information away that people would not know without knowing your character personally, in my oponion. 'Ellaron the slow' or 'Ellaron the dimwitted' would be a proper use for this command as opposed to 'Ellaron the mage, blacksmith, carpenter, beer drinker, retired warrior, etc.'

At the moment I have (Property of Surah) after my name in brackets to represent a tattoo, or at least it will when I get the tattoo. Can a GM tell me if this is okay?

@Ellarion - Not exactly that way.
@Grishnak - Not exactly that way.

Ellarion the old
Ellarion the smith
Sister Ellarion
Brother Ellarion
Grishnak the slave

All okay.

Ellarion the old man (not real good)
Ellarion the Master Smith (Master Smith Elaralion would be better)

"Here ye here ye, introducing Sister Ellarion of the Southern Realm." That's a title.
"Hear ye, hear ye, introducing Ellarion the old man", that's not a title.

I really don't think there are any rules for titles yet, you need to use your best judgement.

Ahh I see. I will delete my current title and replace it sometime with something more appropriate. Would there be a way of being able to see tattoos any time soon, or in the long time, or at all?

At least it's nice and modest ;)

People shouldn't call themselves master of a craft. A master title is something you gain, nothing you give yourself.

However, if a char is KNOWN as "the Great", "the Restless", or something like this it becomes a valid name extension and could be put into this field.

I agree Adano, I noticed lots of people suddenly becoming 'Sir' hehe. I read in another post that this !prefix / ! suffix may be turned off soon, but I think it should always be there, people gain titles and get stripped of them too.
