Removal of the #i command.

Everything about Illarion that fits nowhere else. / Alles über Illarion was inhaltlich in kein anderes Board passt.

Well, could a dev give us some headsup? Is it possible to code an #i <fakename> without much trouble?

Can't say anything definite about that, would be a server command.

But I can tell you that the client naming feature will be much nicer in the next version so we could actually think about removing the #i.

The client now shows a dialog for entering the name and it is possible to change the name multiple times.

ok then i will think about a modified #i command for wrong names. But then we should think about some concrete gm identities. Maybe special numbers. Otherwise i see running 5 nitrams around which ask for account passwords ;)

Would it be possible to do something simple, like Add and extra number to GM characters or even change the color of the name text for GM characters? It shouldn't be a problem since you can all just turn invisible when we annoy you to much

Nitram's number is 23 already...
E-Vil's is 1.

etc. etc.

Just carry on like that and it'll be fine. I assume you don't mind people knowing you're on your GM char anyway, as it'll most likely be coming to pwnz0r someone regardless.

my suggestion is:

1) remove the #i command

AND

2) remove the numbers, show something randomly like "unkown-1" ...

AND

3) implement "examine"

reasons:

1) if I introduce myself, I TELL the other person my name. That's all and that's enough

2) I never heard that people can be identified by numbers except in jails ...

3) The only way to "know" a person is to remember how the person looks like. it is stupid to think a person looks like a number ("12324*"), as usual in Illarion ... Add some characteristic properties to the characters profile, some properties are unchangable like "eye's color", "height", "scars", some properties may change, e.g. "cloth", "color of the hair", "length of the hair", "beard", etc. Show these properties if "examine" is used. Write something like "Rosendil examines MisterX" to the console" if the examine command is used.

I really don't see how any one could be against this proposal...*joins in the no #i anymore*

Well, the fellas said a new, nicer name system is being worked on for the next version, so lets wait and not be too hasty of completely removing the #i anymore.
Also, I'm glad we'll be having an 'examine' command! I've wanted it for a long time, hope my ideas will be held in consideration.
