Parked my Orc up in a place where I thought it was safe so I could have a P'break. Obviously not safe enough as when I came back my Orc was now a ghost.
Annoyed? Yes a little. Shocked? Yes a little. But the bit that realy pissed me off was there was no RP at all. Not one #me.
You could have at least Rp'ed sneaking up on me in my sleep and murdering me. If you are worried I would have noted your number and got revenge later then you don't understand how this game "should" work. There is no way my Char could know who "murdered" him.
Now I can't play my Orc for the rest of the night, AND I can't even say at least it was worth it for the RP oportunities in the future. The stuff you took is easily replaceable, the lost opportunity is not.
Why the post here and not a !GM? I don't want you to get in trouble, I just want you to see an opportunity lost. I do not claim to know what good RP is but would like every opportunity to find out.
Anyway, enjoy the stuff but next time give me something back in the form of roleplay. I would gladly lose twice as much for intrigue, betrayal and interest.

Yes it is a bad thing to PK someone with no roleplay.
But I doubt they charged and attacked, unless they were a newbie. Because other players would not dare just attacking, of fear you might be stronger.
Else, some wolf came, killed you and went.
But it's still your fault. No going AFK.. Not even for pee breaks or food, because that's what server freezes are for you know..

It was definately a PC because of where I was. You are right in that it was my fault, but I'm just sorry I missed a chance to RP. I'll be honest and say my roleplay is...not great, and I savour every opportunity to try some. The best chance I had all night and I was elsewhere

Ah well, always tomorrow.

Well welcome to Illarion.
Here are a few tips to enjoy your roleplay to the fullest:
Avoid me, alex, frikkenturny, erm, nevermind. I don't wanna start on my being-mean spree...
Just joking
Welcome, and, if you need help, poke me. I'm always free to help newbies..
*Thinks about creating a char that's not abnormally-special so he can help newbies without acting weird.*

I know my bladder is not what it once was but I couldn't have been AFK for more than 2 minutes. Having said that, even if it was an overzealous GM I would have expected some RP behind my Orcs demise. Or if it was seen as a breaking of the rules some message to that effect. Still what's done is done. Just thought I could use a bad situation to give an idea of how it could have been better.
You probably got PKed by some powergaming n00b that wanted your stuff and will probably not read this because he dosent even know what a forum is.
But maybe not, just try remembering if your character/cloud got moved from his position from when you left and then came back, if your character got pushed then it was someone wanting your items for sure, it will at least give you a clue.

I'm not up on the lingo so don't know the difference between a newb and a noob but....
If an evil thieving character came across my sleeping char and murdered him for his stuff then great! All that was missing was a couple of #me's. If on the other hand a Paladin or knight did it because "they" knew "I" was AFK then that sucks. But I don't think that's limited to newcomers to the game.
I really don't care about the stuff, it's all replaceable, it's the lack of any RP that sucks. The lack of any chance of creating a situation where the person that robbed and murdered you is now a friend and confidant buying you a beer. Their char knows what they did but yours doesn't, can you see the opportunities there? That's what gets me.

I doubt it was a gm, thought it could have been one that did not realize you were just afk for 2 min. Next time just log out.Algoran wrote:I know my bladder is not what it once was but I couldn't have been AFK for more than 2 minutes. Newb - new to the game and not an idiot.
n00b - anyone annoying/a new person that is an idiot. Used as a joke alot.
Algoran, you have a great attitude and probably already had experiences in RPing before, It can easily be noticed. However, even if many old players became unfriendly on the forums and can act childish, I can hardly believe any of them would act in such a way, that would be agaisnt the rules (indirectly at least) and a very stupid behaviour, and couldalso have gotten caught if you werent really afk. I, for my part, would NEVER cloud a character which is AFK, whatever who it is, killing an AFK character, with RP or not, is very bad to my eyes. Because it simply gives the AFK character no chances at all to reply or do anything. So the chances are hightly probable that you got clouded from a new player/n00b/newbie, for me these all mean the same.
Just to interject a thought...
You said you were at 'the mummy house'. I assume this means you were probably at the ruins north of the castle, and had probably been fighting said mummies. Some of the mummies have poisoned daggers. If you went AFK right after having fought them, already low on hitpoints, it is possible that the poison killed you, not another person.

Actually there is a glitch. No mummy in the crypt wields a weapon that can now cause any poison damage.NirAntae wrote:Just to interject a thought...

We never do!Lrmy wrote:I know gms used to kill people that stood afk, because people used to stand around for the cap to go down. Standing idle in game often used to get you a ban if you did it enough.
Perhaps we move you a bit for testing or send a fly, but we never kill chars for being afk.
Nevertheless: Log out if you're afk.

Thanks for all the feed back. Just to clear up a couple of points though:
It was entirely my fault for leaving my char for a couple of minutes, mea culpa
.
I don't care that my char died only that there was no RP.
There was no chance an NPC wandered into my location, killed me and then wandered off again in the time I was away.
I always stay with my char when "resting", apart from rare P'breaks, but can't prove it so you must think what you will.
I should have logged off but didn't as the act of logging off, and back on, would have taken longer than the task in hand so to speak
This is no excuse though. My bad again.
I didn't !GM because I hoped this post would be more useful. And GMs have better things to do with their time.
Don't confuse age with wisdom.
And yes I have learnt my lesson
In fact this post has taught me much more than the person it was aimed at, thanks again

you sure?, because I remember when I was newer to the game and waited outside the "mummy house" a while after my life had finished refilling when someone playing a gnoll came and owned me rather quickly...while I was fighting back.Arien Edhel wrote:We never do!Lrmy wrote:I know gms used to kill people that stood afk, because people used to stand around for the cap to go down. That must have been after they used the golem avatars constantly.Taliss Kazzxs wrote:you sure?, because I remember when I was newer to the game and waited outside the "mummy house" a while after my life had finished refilling when someone playing a gnoll came and owned me rather quickly...while I was fighting back.Arien Edhel wrote:We never do!Lrmy wrote:I know gms used to kill people that stood afk, because people used to stand around for the cap to go down.
