I agree, it actually was also testing if the player was able to make the effort if typing a story, and if he was able to type without using l33t text, really, it was more useful than it seemed to be.

What I fail to understand is this:

The GMs did research on how we act towards n00bs... and discovered that we're maltreating them right? SO the solution is simply to increase the n00b population? I THINK that its doing somethign illogical... don't you think?

You correlate these two actions together? How did you come to that?

But someone not on the staff brought it up. The player count has always wanted to increase, atleast I believe it is a goal for the staff.

None of your points is correct.

We never did "research" on how someone treats new players. That is utter nonsense and it's really sad that this is the picture you got.

*I* made a new character to check out what Illa looks like for a newbie, and accidently I run into a troublesome situation. There was never a "plan" to examine that, nor did we start "research" on that field. I was not testing someone, I was testing something, and just once and just me.

And I didn't discover that "you're" maltreating them, I discovered that some people acted... strange towards me, while others behaved rather friendly and were really helpful.

Martin

Edit: These two things have nothing to do with eachother.
We planned to drop the AS since about 6 months, now we just did it.

when I joined illarion most people took the time to help me out in finding stuff out, But I also RP the situation I wanted to know as well. I think the way players handle new people is very well.

We will from now on log in to test from time to time.
The above gave me that impression... thanks for clearing it up martin...

I totally agree. I was treated well when I joined, and had no problems really.

@ Hadrian

i find that utterly amusing. i really hope Martin doesn't kill you in the face

it seems to me that the newbies feel they're being treated well, who better to ask then they themselves, instead of going from situation to situation.

banning does sound way harsh though. something only for problem peoples. and not for being unfriendly but for abusing Newbies ignorance.

but come on tell me you've never thrown a noob through a portal. if thats part of the case then i think a good third of the staff and the latter portion of the quest team just got banned. (myself included  maybe even some of the Devs  )

O M G where have I been? Wait let me get this straight... Your not going to make newbees write stories? How do you know a 8 year old wont sign up and ruin all of our rp. We really need the story to see their role playing. Sure maybe we had get more players but...

PS It is not fair to us. You know how long I spent preparing my story making everything perfect so I pass in the first try, reading moonsilver, forum, rules, asking my friend what this game is about, about rping and making sure punctuation is correct. But now New Bees have it easy.

I really hope you reconsider.

Did everyone just ignore my earlier post on this topic? Third Page, half page.

Wheewwwwww, you are late. Pretty damn late, actually XD . For being an active player at the moment, at least.

I would continue this post further on the topic, but my opinion about your opinion version on this is in an earlier post that isn't too far back, I believe. Therefore, be enlightened or be lazy. Sadly, I have a prediction for which you'll probably go with, but I'll try not to make assumptions.

swish dont feel bad i was well on my third page writting my story with a whole lot more to go. (i was acually going to submit an excert instead of writing the whole thing thats how big i planed my story to be), But some people are not the best story teller but still can role play really well. I know im lacking in the grammar department, which is why an orc is the best character for me to play. The story kinda shuts off the people that like to play average joes kinda of guys like soliders and stuff while the people that can write really good stories like to play main characters in the plot of illarion. All im really say is give us a chance to show if we can RP good or not, you might run into a few people that think this game is going to be like runescape first, but all you really need to do is keep a log and try to tell them they need to RP and if they refuse to do that just report them on the forums for Bad RP and a GM will take care of it.

Thanks Frank. But they are not going to like more if I report them. That is not my point to report them or get them in trouble. All I want them to do is RP. Not only me but plenty of New Bees have the same problem that I face. Its okay I have people like Dusty, Taliss, Sess'th, William, Zharrukal.... I just wish people would not take OCC into consideration when they are RPing.

Wait what do you mean you were writing a story? You mean your story how people made fun of you when you were a New Bee. And for the person above *points two threads above What do you mean prediction?

Definately Damien was trying to steal Martins thunder, but what else is to be expected?
Okay, definately the new system is going to be a test of wills but for everyone to just throw in the towel before the fight even begins is pathetic. Give this a chance, now we see if the "A line in the Sand" thread everone eagerly signed actually holds weight or was just simply to sign to gripe about how noobs are mistreated. Take action and be a leader among this community, not just another overrated roleplayer who takes their talents at playing an online game far to seriously.

Hmm... I would only deactivate the character authorization (not the whole thing) until the "tutorial island" is ready. But now it's done. Hello, half-finished features...
