Blacksmithing
Here's just a wild idea about blacksmithing certain items:
The more a person smiths a certain type of item (swords, axes, armor, etc.), the more items they develop in that category, but don't develop the others unless they smith those items too. Once you have developed a high enough skill in one field, they can smith the "ultimate" item of that field. Only one of these "ultimate" items would be able to be learned at once, so in order to switch, you must "unlearn" the current area of expertise by smithing a different type of item and then eventually learning it.
I realize it isn't an easy thing to implement, so it won't be looked at to closely for a while, but when the time comes, I hope it is taken into consideration.

It would really not be that hard to implement, just instead of having Blacksmithing we would have Blacksmithing swords, Blacksmithing plate, Blacksmithing tools, etc...
I doubt it will be done though.
Blacksmithing is going to be going through some radical changes, which the cost and skills required to create items increasing. Instead of it taking one ore and one coal to make anything, different items will take different materials and time.

If any of the tools are "magical" then I think it would be nice if a mage was required to help make it. Maybe cast a spell on the ore before it is smithed, then on the item again after it's smithed. I just don't understand how something is going to be magical (i.e. firesword) if nothing is done to make it magical.
That is an idea, steel, mithrel, etc..
It seems to convert iron into steel one would have to be good with metalurgy, which we don't have. I think the closest we would have would be goldsmithing.
Perhaps something like if someone was a master blacksmith and a master goldsmith one could make steel items or such. Just a though.

Or make steel, copper, mithril, silver ~whatever-metals, own skill for each.
It's like to cut trees you'd have to know how to fish.
Well, not quite but almost.
In my mind goldsmithing is hardly anything like smithing axes or hammers or such, because the material is much more valuable, and the scale is usually much smaller, I.E. rings.
But if you make 'making' steel so hard (Somewhere as hard to master as goldsmithing) It would reduce the number of likely master steelsmiths.
If there is something like 80%-90% change of failing the steel-making-smithing process in some point, it would also make it harder to flood markets with tons of steel-made items.
Another skill-idea, Silver smithing.
Well, yep, Silver ignot and ability to smith it like goldsmith.
But diffrences just that it would be much valuable than the golden ones.
The silversmithing skill should be hardest one to master, and extremely hard to make anything out of the ignots in the beginning, to prevent horde of newcomers to get rich with a lucky shot with their first two ignots.
I don't like that idea, because those things really are not related to eachother.Perhaps something like if someone was a master blacksmith and a master goldsmith one could make steel items or such. Just a though.

Or set it up so you would need to do different things to make something. Firesword for instance (this is just a example im makeing up as i go along):
first you would have to use.. lets say 10 iron and 20coal to make the sword, then once you have the sword, you have to make some wrap for the handle, like you have to go ask a tailor to bind some thread, i guess... 30 and make a sturdy hold for the sword, then you would have to lay the sword in a furince or a campfire for a turn to make it flame. This would inquire alot of programing and such though. But it would be really nice ya know? Im just tring to get the thing like whenyou make a scythe there automaticly wood in the scythe for the handle or in carpentry when your makeing a harp, and lute theres already strings made of wood (which would sound terrible). You get the idea. Also this would make it so the price of an item would be more reasonible, i can make a firesword every 7 trys or so, and some sell then for outrageous prices like 150 gold! thanks for listening. Sorry i cant come up with a good closeing statement, thsi was just a rant by your truely...

Would this poison tipped spear slowly decrease your health after being stabbed by it, until you drink the thingy, the thing that makes you better, like vaccine, can't think of the word but its on the tip of my tongue . . . bah! ANTIDOTE, whew, thats the one . . . (I may be slow but i get there in the end)
Or... Just require 10 iron, 20 coal and leather for materials, and blacksmithing and tailoring.Iqloo wrote:Firesword for instance .... lets say 10 iron and 20coal to make the sword, ... wrap for the handle, ... tailor to bind some thread.... 30 and make a sturdy hold for the sword... lay the sword in a furince or a campfire for a turn to make it flame.
Blacksmithing
Armor smithing should definetely be its own category, I fail too see how smithing a sword and smithing a piece of armor is related.
An ultimate item in each category would be cool
