Yeah but if you keep casting, eating, casting, etc. Think about how much food you'd be putting into yourself.

Problem now seems to be (for me at least) that I hit the skill cap after casting maybe 10 spells.
OMFG i am not whining!!, none of my characters have ever fought a mage to kill him/her, i wanted the game more balanced, Nitram fixed the bug, thats it.

Mages would not need to eat twice as much if they were not busy running around casting every chance they had.

well now thats more true, but some spells could drain you after two or three uses. however a mage is going to cast spells, there wouldn't be much a point in not doing so. what everyone seems to be talking about is some type of proper forum for casting spells. you know how like warriors have duels and thats the proper forum in which to swing a sword. but i am highly against mages have magic battles outside the town walls. let them practise if they want to practise. the GMs have eyes and ears and if they find someone to be over excessive or lack rp then i'm sure they'll do something about it.

Mages have to cast spells to train. Same as fighters fight and crafters craft.
As long as its not done excessively there is no problem.
Something to think about.......How many fighters go to fight ogres every day? How many of those RP the fights? Do they use #me's when slaughtering them?

No, as mages doesnt #i each tiem they make a carrot, and thats ok, RPing alone is useless whatsoever. And even if I WRITE LIKE THAT it dosent mean that i am mad

I can't be bothered to read the whole last three pages that appeared while I slept  but I'm going to comment on what I did read. There shouldn't be a problem with mages or specialty magic users walking around casting as they walk or sit at a table as long as they're casting non-offensive or harmless spells. They have to practice just like fighters do, so no one should be whining. There is ALWAYS a practice brawl going on outside the town walls in one direction or the other. ALWAYS. So if there are 5 or six mages walking around casting summon food or teleport spells on themselves then that shouldn't be a problem. As was said, mages have a lot of ambition and motivation to go after something so impressive as learning magic, and so by casting their harmless spells that seem to you randomly coming out of nowhere they are proving that they are still ambitious and motivated by not just learning the skill but practicing it in a way that is not so random to them. It is only slightly different that someone is walking around casting summon food rather than two or three guys wanting to practice their swordsmanship skills and fighting over who gets to battle first. The ONLY time you should complain is if they're walking around casting ice flames or lightening bolts randomly, because that's disruptive (and in some cases its not bad roleplay at all).

@Arameh - a year ago every other character had runes and was casting their healing spell on everyone in sight whether they were injured or not just to practice and get their skills up. It isn't like that anymore so you should be thankful. I think they're all doing a great job teaching and being taught at the same time, they show wonderful motivation by doing exactly what you complain about. They don't always need to #me if they aren't interacting with someone (like if they're sitting at a table not facing anyone and they summon a carrot no one could see it anyway), but there are people who #me that they make a carrot or a mushroom or teleport themselves.

*rolls up his sleeves*

Right, now for my two pence. (hehe see what i did there, hilarious i know).

I can understand why some players are getting pissed off at some of the 'over kill' of magic everywhere they go.

It's a mixture of jealously and plain annoyance. I imagine that non-mages feel that perhaps the mages are just 'showing off' their magical powers.

I myself could not give a damn (even though my character, hates the use of magic). A simple solution, if mages need to do magic, do it outside of town like the other powe... 'fighters'. This would solve all conflict and you can play magicians all you want.

As for #me's i've noticed a shit load of mages who don't use them and that is annoying. Little things like food summoning doesn't really need it, but fireballs, walls (which is perhaps the most abused spell ever and should be saved for more advanced magicain) and other spells do.

So in summary, mages use #me's when casting magic (fighters too for that matter  ) and cast outside of town, or just don't overkill inside of town. No arguments end of conflict end of discussion.

Another issue i'd like to raise is how on earth does one become a mage? It seems pretty unaccessable and cliquey atm.

Anywho, just my opinion, just have fun and chill out, it's just a game after all people.

nice shot there at a wrap up speech.

heres alittle note for you. magical folk don't practise magical people can't teach, if it's going to be an active system and not a monopoly people are going to have to deal with annoyances. i mean unless you like having only 12 some odd people knowing magic's and hording it. i among others may have not been to close to teaching before our 'downgrade' but now we're offically another hundred steps back.

you should be seeing the first unchosen by Dev/GM mage in about the next eh three to four months.

#me top lip quivers

But but, its expensive having to buy teleport books all the time.

I personally think that casting can ofter be overused, I understand completely the sentiments and arguments of those mages who need to practice, it is afterall me who they will be teaching next (fingers crossed) however some use does seem a little excessive. For example Misjilah teleporting through town did seem a little out of place, and out of character. Such shows of teleportation should be used for special circumstances, and not over-used as such.

Then again I am willing to put up with it if it means they are able to progress even that little bit more quickly. But then we must keep in mind those that know the runes already have been put in a rather odd position, being granted all the runes at once. Future generations will get a few runes, practice them, and then gain a few more, thus spreading the workload a little.

Perhaps it will pick up once the academy is built, or perhaps it is worth teaching a few smaller runes to the second tier of magicians as it were.

Out of Character? Have you ever met Misjilah? She is the lazy woman herself, and very keen on displaying her power at every chance she has.

Still, repeatedly casting teleport and jumping from one spot to the other seems a little odd, and in any case, surely takes more effort than walking a few feet.

It does actually. I have been roleplaying Misjilah as physically tired, and even with slight breakdowns. And I have been trying to explain that teleporting instead of walking is more physically and mentally tiring than actually walking, and still they make comments about me getting fat and ugly.

You know what, you can try for yourself Nalzaxx if you want so badly. You can have my runes. Mages will only get flamed upon for a few more weeks me guesses, and I am not really looking forward to it.

Im not having a go, please don't think so, Im merely saying that I wish there was a better way, it seems a little out of place to me, but Im happy to live with it.

And I have to admit, yes, I do want the runes badly, but not at the expense of my roleplay and the character's integrity. I am happy to wait my turn, even though I get a little impatient at times.

Don't be discouraged by the negative posts presented here, creating and maintaining a successful mage like Misjilah takes alot of work and dedication, and so the rewards that are given to you and others are of course going to be resented. Perhaps there was a problem before, it is fixed, now it is hard for mages to learn, perhaps another problems to be resolved, but no need for argument. Don't be disheartened by the jealous ramblings of a minority of players.

I am not going to change my RP because you think that we should keep it outside of town. Harmless spells are actually allowed by town law, and following Misjilah's thoughts, she will do it in that damn town if it doesn't break any rule.

Also, to Nalzaxx, I am not even near succesfull, because I am apparently the mage with the least skills. So there.

I was referring to your ability to roleplay a mage with the potency and consistancy that allowed you to be granted the runes as a success.

Then expect more complaints, i wasn't ordering you to, i was suggesting it to stop the conflict between players, i'm sorry that wasn't apparent to you.

Solve this ig, judgement of roleplay I learned long ago is useless and frustrating because of the fact you don't know all the facts. The responsibility and power lies with the gm's for such things. Now, use the rpg/guild/GAME to try to solve this for your character. I know one of my chars has disdain for magic, but he is contemplating how to get his ideas into action.
