Complaint about: Cooking
I know the devs and GMs have better things to do than read complaints (thank you), but I have been wanting to write this for a while.
Cooking IMHO is very very hard, and quite useless. Who uses cooked food? Fighters and Crafters
Fighters normally get food by going to the pigsty, and massacring the pigs; not only is it free, they also get leather which they can sell for money; or sew into leather items. Oh and they get a tad of experience as well. This is totally not fair for cooks, since fighters would inevitably buy the most food; and meat has a good food value. So instead of fighters losing money in order to get their health back, they actually gain it.
Possible solutions: Remove meat as a pig item drop; or make it a very rare thing (not a good idea)
Make cooking the meat dependant on cooking skill, AND give it a huge chance of it burning (most realistic, poor people never got meat...)
Make cooking the meat require an entire rot cycle in the oven... this would make most people get bored and actually buy some food... *rolls eyes*
-
Crafters: Carpenters and Lumberjackers easily obtain apples from the trees, or go and kill the pigs. Smiths are usually fighters (see above), tailors kill pigs anyway...
--
It can be seen .: that the only people who actually buy cooked food [more than 2 or 3 at a time... *rolls eyes*] are those who: a) Have loadsa cash and nothing to do with it, b) Vegeterians who dont want to hunt apples c) People who just want to hurry up and dont feel like massacring piggies.
--
Also, the raw materials for cooking are expensive, and although the % rate of sucess for bread is close to 100; you still end up using a lot of cash
And the worst part is...: It is ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to level up... what is wrong with the system? I've been playing a cook for a few months (I think) now, and have baked more than 100 loaves in total, and guess what? I still can't make anythign else.
Thank you for your time. Discussions welcome.

Their whole point is its hard as hell to get good at with little to no reward and some things don't make sense. Alchemy, however, has quite a bit of reward since drinks are highly valued rp items even though thats extremely hard too, you can sell them for a little profit to a npc. Bucket loss is annoying, I hope these things are sorted out in the new client.
Indeed, Alchemy is also extremely hard, but personally I don't have an issue with this. What annoys me however is bucket and bottle loss. When you fail to make wine for example, a bottle just disappears. If I were to fail making wine in RL I would merely pour out the sour wine and retain the bottle. The same applies for dying with buckets, failed dye is merely poured away, it does not consume the bucket.
Another problem with dye is that green dye is the first dye one is able to make. However when one wants to dye cloth, green cloth is not one of the first options.
