Prob with registering new name

Post by Duvik IronBottom »

Hiay folks, a friend of mine referred me to your site and I submitted an application two days ago. The app was accepted and I proceeded to create a PC.

I submitted the PC name 'Duvik Ironbottom'

I then received this message in an email...

You have requested a character by the name Duvik IronBottom for the roleplaying game Illarion. We are sorry to inform you that this name does not fit our name rules for the following reason:

Read the name rules. No capital letters within a name.

You can read the name rules here:

http://illarion.org/illarion/us_name_rules.php

I then read the rules i was linked to and saw that i violated none but followed them to the letter really...

I then tried to submit a name in lowercase...duvik... it wouldn't accept the submission even to send it for consideration...

So I just tried Duvik Ironbottom again and it is once again awaiting acceptance. Any ideas on the prob here?

Oh, i just got this email today...

hmm, should I include the escape characters and quotes as suggested in this last message?

Thanks much for your time and i look forward to playing in Illarion.

No capital letters within a name.
Just read closely what you have written.

IronBottom has a capital "B" in the middle -> rejected

Why don't you try "Ironbottom" in normal spelling? :-)

A character must have at least one first name and can have any amount of surnames
First names and surnames start with an uppercase letter
First names may not include existing words
Surnames may not include any modern words
No names of well-known persons from real life (RL) are allowed
You must be able to speak the name (i.e. there must be some vowels in it)
There are no spaces behind a name and no double spaces between parts of the name
A title is not part of a name. You can add titles in the game with !prefix Title and !suffix Title
Every first name and surname must consist of more than one character
No letter is repeated more than three times in a row
The whole name may not include numbers (neither arabian nor roman)
Names have to fit a medieval/fantasy enviroment and the race of the character
Very well known names of characters taken from novels, games or films are not allowed

but I see your point and get it
No capital letters within a name
is the part that threw me

Just try Duvik Ironbottom and you'll become a happy camper. By the way, Duvik IronBottom violates rule #12 for it is not common to do this kind of capitalization in a fantasy/ medieval enviroment.

Have fun!

But in the medieval world, the same last name could be spelt tons of different ways (Smith, Smyth, Lock, Locke...) I think they've found up to a half dozen or more variants on the same word/name, so why couldn't a random capital be there?

Duncan McCloud?

but point taken and will be happy to join you folks. Sorry for blatantly missing the switch to lowercase in the second email.

As far as posting twice... didn't know I had?

edit: but looking at menu I suppose I did, ever had one of those days... well if not... it'll happen ;D
