curious about something
Well I'm curious why the graphics and models aren't as depicted at http://illarion.org/illarion/screenshot ... -03-09.jpg these are very nice images of things (armors, weapons, items, etc.) Just curious...

There are many reasons, but most of them are not very nice. The helmet is nice, but way too big, that helmet when layed on the ground could nearly cover up a halfling. That plate armor is bleck, terrible. Some of them were just pictures cut out of images found on the net. Also we have a certain lighting we use for everything now, and nearly all of these old graphics do not fit this lighting. Also, most of those things do not look nice. Those bricks look totally fake, and the old avatars are nearly as big as the buildings themselves. These were all changed for one reason or another.
I heard that several times now (the old graphics being better than the new ones). From a more objective point of view, this is wrong because of the following reasons:
1) The weaponry and armor worn by the avatars did not change, all avatars looked the same, no matter if they actually carried a weapon or not and so on. At no stage of the game one was able to see what a character wears.
2) The lightning of the characters was not only wrong (wrong direction and intensity), it turned as the character turned (which looks like a jumping, individual sun for every character) and it was partially *colored*.
3) The style of the characters did not fit together.
4) The animation of some characters was extremely poor, for example in the case of the femal elf.
5) Some characters were rendered with anti aliasing turned on, others with aa turned off. Horrible.
6) The size of the characters did not fit the size of e.g. buildings.
7) The brickwall you see in the background is extreeeemly ugly and does not fit illarion graphics by any means.
The stone you see is extreeeemly ugly and...
9) The tiles do not fit and look strange. They do not fit Illarion and they do not fit eachother. They simply do not cover the ground seemless.
10) The sheep... well, look yourself. It looks into the wrong direction and the lightning is nonsense, at least.
11) As Grobby already noted, some of the items were cut out from photos found in the net. They do not fit the perspective, they do not fit the style.
12) Most items looked crappy. Look at that armor.
13) Look at the pixel grain...
14) The color of the background hurts my eyes.
15) Last, but not least: I don't like a single, not a single one, graphic of that particular screenshot. Not one.

That screenshot sucks. There were some things that were good about the graphics before the new client graphics came out, not everything was bad. But the new graphics now, the new client graphics are awesome. Sure some of them could be better, theres always room for improvement. The only thing about the new client's graphics that I don't like are the player graphics. I love how we now have a new female elf that doesn't look like a human but other than the elfess and the orcs all the other graphics look the same to me. And everyone is wearing the same colours, the ugly green-brown-orange. Thats the only thing I can think of that really bothers me and hinders my desire to RP. Other than that the game has done nothing but get better.

EDIT: Cute darling.
Quin always always ALWAYS has some form of protection on her, her war axe was always strapped to her back, it was her most prized possession, a gift from her best friend. Just the morning before the wedding she had some elf threatening to attack her. She could have taken care of him easily but Arcia did the dirty work. ;]

Its what makes him so good at what he does. Where you see what is a major improvement, martin sees an improvement that still needs improvement. Its great how he doesn't help make something and just because it has his name on it make a fuss about its greatness, he's so good at it that he sees his mistakes without someone always pointing them out. Yay for him and the rest of the development team!!!Aegohl wrote:....He's so picky

All this pseudo-technical drivel about how the old graphics were "not compatible", "bad lighting", "too colorful", "wrong perspective" blah blah blah is simply sheer nonsense. The fact remains that the old graphics as a whole were far better, far nicer on the eyes, far more aesthetic than the new graphics will ever be. The honest opinion of the newcomer Al'tian who took one look at the old graphics and wondered why they were scrapped in favor of the uglier new graphics reinforces this view even more.
Who cares about insignificant little details about "lighting" and "perspective" from a wrong pseudo-technical view? You don't have to be an artist to recognize a good work of art and obviously the old graphics had superior lighting and perspective. Lighting and perspective are details that should make a graphic look better not worse. When these points are abused to make a good graphic look even worse than before then some serious thinking definitely needs to be done.
It is high time that the makers of these "new and improved" new graphics stopped relying on their arrogant egos to make decisions about graphic quality and actually took a reality check. Of course you can continue to bask in the hollow, flaky opinions of bootlickers and hide from reality just like the king who was naked. The rest of the world will move on however and one day you will find yourself destitute from all the time you lied to yourself.

Conscience: You are, as always, entitled to your opinion (I don't think anyone actually has to tell you that). But just look at the old graphics without your "constant-grudge-oscope." See the tiles? They don't fit together. The palm trees from the old client used to look like Lego trees. Compare them to the new palm trees and be amazed.
That's just one example of the constant improvements of the Illarion graphics.
If you feel you can do any better, as a pseudo-graphics critique, I'm sure Martin would be delighted if you would send him a message.

I also like the new graphics more than the old one even though the old ones have a huge sentimental value...*sighs* they remind of so many nice hours I spend in Illarion.
But I have to agree with Quin (?) I do not like the look of the player characters except for the elves. The dwarves and halfings get confused, the male and female as well. And on the first sight the humans, male and female, look the same. Other than that it is great.
I feel bad now for saying it...

Post Neo Modernist Surrealism Client! Incredible!
I just love how the similar features of all the characters portray the age of communist oppression and the hidden zombification feelings in the people's hearts, and the skinny figures represent how poverty and hunger are widespread, and how the thinning grass and grain lines and the lackluster architechtures represent the struggle for scarce resources and the economic recession! Bravo!

My best friend Hitler????? +grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr+
Now I recall the film: "Don't mention the war".....hmmm
I dislike to discuss about the past, I just find the name awful and not really funny,
but to come back to the title, I like the humans end the elves. Halflings are sooo sweet and the dwarfs, hmm, I agree with Josefine, the dwarfladies aren't really nice and to difference from the men *ggg*!!!

Excellent. You have managed to make a bad joke about Hitler on a board full of German people. Way to go!
Oh, and the old graphics really did look like crap. Look at the boots for example. They were taken from the games made by Spiderweb Software. Why is the saw black? Those strawberries look awful. The new ones actually look like strawberries. The coal is just a black rock. The firnis blossom looks rather horrible, more like some disgusting little sea creature than a flower. And the halflings looked like they were wearing potato sacks.
