Monster's movement speed

People did not complain in the past because there were a horde of high skilled chars to butcher the beasties.
With the speed now increased, or put back to how it was,, Ahhh i think it is brilliant. I love it. Dont slow them down!!
I still have good memories of getting chased down by super fast demon skeletons.

As Aristeus said, before the wipe, all the monsters luring next to towns were beatable by most people. So it doesn't matter, if one couldn't escape from them. Now, most people aren't able to stand the monsters, especially those, who aren't fighters.martin wrote: it is exactly the speed before the wipe. Every new char and everyone who plays his role strict as a craftman or trader or ... (at the moment also magician) has no chance to escape the easiest monster and no chance to fight them.
The difference to before is the surrounding situation.

I think the monster's speed should be just enough where you are able to escape, but not before taking a good beating. At least the character won't return immediately because he has to heal first.
The way it is now, when a monster pops up on the map, there are only two outcomes:
1.) Live.
2.) Become a cloud.
And I ain't a gambler when it comes to character skill.

The funny thing is that this is exactly the situation as it was before the wipe.
Now people complain that they want to have back the situation before the wipe, it happens partially, now they complain about having the situation before the wipe.
Sure about that? Before the wipe my char was able to outrun trolls and ogres, but there was no escape from flies...

lets say the Townguard sees a halfling with a demon on his heels (not that i believe he would survive that long ), what would they do.

ya know, i nearly just died becouse obviously someone thought it nessicary to lead a troll into town..not cool....and...it wouldnt be that bad if my character was at all good at fighting or if these monsters were evadable (which i couldnt evade him at all).

But the thing is, as fat as I can tell, the monsters Martin, keep the same movement value on all terrain, while player characters get movement penalties, so basically you monsters that will beat you every time on terrain, making them impossible to outrun. Also exact same speed as before the wipe? Thats total bullshit, I watched trolls before the wipe, and even my lower agillity chars could out run them on all terrain, maybe your thinking of the first wipe, when you changed from head down 2d to Iso perhaps.

However, I have a theory:
We have a FAST server now. So probably, connection speed plays a higher role now: Monsters do not have lag, they run on the server directly. Earlier, the server was simply slower. Might that be the problem?

Given the fact that people come to us rather often and thank us for features we never implemented, telling us things they did which could have never happened and so forth, I became cautious.
Are all the monsters too fast? Or just some? Is it that you were used to kill daemons and now are not able anymore or does this also apply to newbie monsters (you're all newbies, don't forget that!).

Actually I know now why it takes me longer to kill flies than it does mummies if I can kill them. Its because I am using daggers, also so many other people are using swords and axes. Swinging daggers around and a sword through a bunch of flies isnt going to do much damage even if your the best (which none of us are).
This was mentioned somewhere by a gm, and I remembered reading it, so I am assuming that is one of the reasons.
Oh yes, I know bandits get the penalty for speed, and trolls, I dont know about ogres, I dont think flies do though, but thats just me and actually when you think about it, it kind of works out right that they dont, They are flying
. But even if they do, the server thing sounds reasonable, and since my comp is a slow mf, I understand why its hard to get away from em

Muahahaha I was right. That makes flies 10x more deadly than anything I have encountered ingame, I dont have the proper weapons on my character to fight them, my own fault. So they just peck away at me, the only way I can seem to beat them. Get on a long grassy plain and just run, and hopefully not get any trees or rocks in my way:). Or if I am lucky duke it out with em and hopefully not die 
So tip to any player, dont get 3 groups of bugs flying at ya, its a death sentence. Unless your just that skilled

Maybe the monsters can be slowed down, just a little bit?
Some unfortunate soul seemed to lead a green troll all the way up to the northern forests where my character just logged in.
Anyway, my character was running, and the warhammering troll knocked half his health down. I had to log out to avoid turning into a cloud without having a fair chance.

Me and Lennier were joking around about how to get monsters to stop attacking you among other things. I thought "hey, maybe shiny objects?". I think maybe copper coins, an expensive peice of armor or weapon, and gold things. The monsters could run after these things, pick them up, then start attacking anyone again. Obviously these would be humanoids or slightly intelligent beings. Undead wouldn't bother with this. Just brainstorming

That whole "an axe would be the worst weapon against a fly" is totally wrong. we like to talk about realism here quite a bit, in real life no one is stupid enough to try to cut a fly in half, you would use the flat surface of an axe or sword to swat the flies. When thats done a sword becomes a bat, an axe a big club, its that simple. Weapons like arrows, throwing stars, and daggers woudl be no good but weapons with a flat edge would work pretty well.

Unfortunately technics only have a few kinds of weapons, and how much damage they would do using them the intended way. Its probobly possible, but right now there are more important things getting everything to work correctly.

I can't escape anything. I remeber in the old client that escaping a troll was easy, now it chases me and close.
Well, if other players think like, maybe the speed of big monsters could be changed, please? After all, trolls, ogres, they aren't very smart.
Or maybe they stop following you after you leave their "home".

Actually i think the speed increase is great before you could attack ogers and run before they hit you which is kinda wierd as they would have seen you coming.
But why not make it that ogers and trolls only chase you if you get within a certain range so if your weak and you see one you can run but if you go to attack it it is still fast and you cant just attack and then run from it to get your skills up.

As a note, everyone, it is highly frowned upon to log out for the advantage of saving your arse from various offensive attacks from player characters and mean, grouchy, ugly monsters alike
