Ugly Mummies
Jeremy walks briskly up to the wall...finds a clear spot and pins a large notice up.
The area where the mummies are is very ugly, as are they. Nothing can be done for them, but the area can be made beautiful. I have made a start by planting a few trees. Please feel free to contribute to improving this area and making sure it stays beautiful.
Thank You.

What is wrong?
For starters, as Sam mentioned, you're trying to bring life and happiness to where undead creatures roam around. Isn't the key to a dangerous place its looks? Perhaps a mental and unconventional warning that they do not receive literally? It's as a saftey percaution Jeremy.
Now that I completely support beautifying just about anywhere else besides places where vile creatures roam.
Would it obviously make sense to have a demon roaming around a precious garden? I would imagine it would become quite confused. Nontheless, we can always have the skeletons hang from the beautiful fir trees that we grew.
Honestly, is this the way to fight the undead now? To decorate their lairs in which they harm people?
Find some sense.

Respect for those in pain?
Bloody idiot.
Do remember that we slaughter and kill dozens of them everyday. What seriously is the difference?
Do remember that our peasants, the feeble, die from them. Now think, a villager does think twice before entering. And he or she realizes the danger. But if flowers, trees, and gardens surround danger, are they honestly going to realize and think of any threat? Especially the new folk? I would not think so.
Their lives are over. Why twingle and plant them gardens. Kill them, do not decorate them.

Kasume....would you prefer it if we just lay waste to the entire area? Lets burn it all to the bare rock just because there are undead there. How far should we go Kasume...a few feet? a few hundred feet? Lets knock down everything within 100 paces of anything bad so people know its there?
If you are so worried about the undead being there why not go and wipe them out. Destroy the lair that spawns them and stop them once and for all.
There is an old saying I once heard. "If you have nothing good to say....keep quiet".
If the area looks good or bad they will still be there. People will still go there if it looks like a graveyard or a blasted wasteland. Whether its out of curiosity or seeking adventure they will always go.
So why should we live with an eyesore just over the river? Why not make the area AROUND look better? (I said nothing about decorating their lair - just the area around it)
Besides, who knows, having a garden around their house might improve their temper and mood. Maybe you should try the same Kasume.

If you make the area around it much prettier, won't that just lure unsuspecting townfolk there? Imagine this-a child and her mother decide to play in the garden, unaware of the cursed old men that ramble there, looking to eat human and halfling flesh alike. They would be rended apart, simply because what they thought to be a garden, was in fact the den of the undead! Wouldn't that be so very tragic?

the dead are not in pain.
the dead do not feel offended.
the dead do not care.
the dead... are simply... dead.
if you come near them - they will hunt your flesh, for it is their curse.
decorate it or not - it makes no esthetical difference to them.
what trees can do though - is become a trap for warriors and lead them to death. Kind of like it did in Northerot.
If you plant too many trees and make a labyrinth of them, and suddenly, some horde of monsters attacks from the caves of Moshran - all warriors will be doomed, trying to walk around the trees, chased by swarms of monsters.
Think about that.

If everyone is so worried about people straying into this area why not put up a sign? Just beacuse the area looks ugly people will not stop going there. People will go there no matter what. All I am saying is why should it look ugly from in the town. I never said anything about turning the area into a garden...just planting some trees etc. to screen the area from town..so when we wake or look out over the river we see something beautiful.
Its no wonder nothing gets done in this town.
Someone tries to do something to improve the area and all anyone can do is pick fault and moan about it. People try to do something positive and all anyone does is complain about it. No wonder nobody wants to do anything if this is the kind of reaction they will get. Talk about taking away peoples will to get involved in making things better!
I got a new idea.....lets destroy the bridge then nobody can "wander" into the area by mistake!
Why in the name of the gods is planting a couple of trees such a big deal?
If people worry so much about the mummies and skeletons pouncing on the unwary then why not do something about them? Go kill them! Destroy their hiding places, their lairs! Remove them from the isle! GET RID OF THEM! Just stop moaning and whining every time someone tries to do something positive in this damned town!
Destroy......thats all any of you are good at.
Someone tries to create and you get all upset.
Well DAMN you all!

How did this become a discussion about the undead and their feelings? All I meant was I dont like looking over the river and seeing that ugly area. So I planted some trees to screen the view from town and invited others to add their own IF they WANTED to. As to peoples concerns about innocents wandering into the area, wouldnt they do that anyway?I never said anything about turning the area into a garden just making it look better from the town.
Trees providing cover for the mummies? Do they really strike you as intelligent enough to lurk in cover and ambush people? Pretty or ugly people will wander into the area and get attacked. Put up a sign.
The mummies dont venture into town unless lead.
Finally.....think on this.......
A screen of bushes and trees between the bridge and the buildings would prevent the mummies wandering about. Making the area safer and more beautiful. Preventing "accidental encounters" with "unsuspecting innocents". A single entryway could be left (well away from the bridge) to allow access for people who so wish. How about that?

If you want to make it look better from town, why not plant cherry and apple trees on the town side of the river? Yes, people who do not know about it will surely wander there at some times, but why make the place attract more innocents than usual?
To those who mentioned wiping the zombies out: It is not a simple case of destroying these monsters as they were put here by a God, to mess with this bond between them would be messing with Gods. It is not wise.
