Hell...I carry a battlestaff...I could be walking around with a wooden shield and my firesword...but that isnt my character. Oh...and ive killed mages before....and no..I did not paralyze them. There are ways. I've also been paralyzed a ton of time and I only died once...and that was because I got paralyzed by like 8 people at once and then beat to a bloody pulp and got spells thrown on me...there are way....just find them people

You DO need an experienced mage to learn the runes.
Nah... not really.

Lets see how well you do when someone stacks 5 paralise spells on you and then throws an ice flame on you.

Their are many ways to fight mages, The Dancing technique for one, Quite usefull if used right. I think its officially called the Muten dance. Its also quite obvious to any fighter, or even non fighter. In an old character of mine, he fought a mage in a duel for some reason a few weeks after he arrived. Nearly won to, except the mage did a good little trick. Which I wont tell because it shows you how to counter the Muten Dance. Mages can be beat even with paralyze spells, What Im waiting for is somebody to use a mirror when the spell is being caste, see if it reflects it.

You have to be good, but it does work even with a wand against you. But timing is everything

Now, I haven't played this game, but in others I've played barbarians had one ability that would take time to recharge, but stopped a mage from using magic for a short period of time - War cry.

War cry disrupts a magic user's concentration, however the magic user always ran off. The truly dexterous can catch up to them, though.

War cry would be out of use for quite a while though, as it took time to recharge.

*apparently* there is a way to counter magic, but I can't say what it is.

Even if there is a way to dodge or block magic, it's completely useless as no one knows what it is besides a select few.

It should remain like that, to be able to best a mage should be a secret.

Oh no, I can play this game... I am not worried about mages tho cause I saw Keikan's little newbie-helper-to-hand-out-points thread... Yeah, Taylor has some nice essence :)

You need maxed essence form what I understand.

My Orcs sadly have no essence. I'm going to be maimed.
