IMPORTANT: About the server situation

Baldur and I have completed our university studies. The Illarion server is currently located at this university and therefore has to leave this place.

Server Hardware/Housing
----------------------------------
To keep up our service, we have ordered a new server (the server housing requires specific dimensions of the hardware, so we can't use the old) for 1200 Euro 4 weeks ago. This server was still not sent to us.
Therefore Illarion will go down for an unknown time, most likely on monday, perhaps sooner or later.
Baldur will take the old server with him and will transfer the data to the new one as soon as it arives. When this is completed, the server must still be transported to Berlin, where the server will be housed. The transport must be performed by Baldur himself, and this involves about 1000 km driving (therefore it can only be acomplished on a weekend, because he works during the week). After that we must run tests and the server will be available again.
The new server has a much better CPU performance. We don't know about the speed of the new provider, so we can't say anything about future lag.

We don't know when the hardware arrives, we don't know when we will go up again!. Sign in for the newsletter on our website, so you will receive an email, when we go up again.

Server software
--------------------
Baldur started to reorganize the server-software about 6 or 7 month ago, to make it more flexible and give us better possibilities to configure it, while it is online. This included some changes in the client too. The new server is still not ready, and therefore I don't plan to release a new client too (I would be forced to make changes in both client versions parallel, keep them consistant etc.). I plan to release a small executable to patch the client for its new location.

General Service
--------------------
Baldur and I are moving this weekend (to different towns, which doesn't make it easier...). We won't have internet access on our new place for a while. Getting the server to run will be very much faster, if we don't have thousands of mails to reply, if we get our new internet access.
Please write only mails, that are absolutely important to gods@illarion.de. They won't be answered for a while anyway.
We have no plans to go commercial with Illarion, so there will still be no fee to pay after the change.
In the time during the change we will have a website set up, to show this information and perhaps give some new ones.

We are sorry for this inconvenience. Blame it on our hardware provider, that needs more than 4 weeks to connect a few hardware components together and send them here.

I'd imagine that since baldur is transeffering data form the old to new, characters will not lose stats, or only marginally.
there will be a temp page right bror?

oh and great wrok getting that new serv, now that there is a new serv, and your done we can really celebrate!

Die Zeit bis zum Serverwechsel wird mir schwer fallen.....da ich doch gerade Urlaub habe, und mich auf eine aufregende Illa-Zeit gefreut hatte

Ich gratuliere mal zum Studiumsabschluß.

Newsletter sind geordert.
Ich danke euch beiden für die schone Zeit auch wenn sie für mich nur kurz war.
Hoffentlich gehts bald wieder los die Sucht ist mega groß bei mir .hehehehe

I have just talked to someone from the university and the server may stay here for a while (this means no downtime). When Baldur is in Munich, the next time (middle of June) he will fetch the server here. Hopefuly, the new server has arrived before and will already be running in Berlin, when he shuts down the old one.
Thanks a lot for the two years of support and the ongoing possibility to stay online for a while to the university member.

@Sponsoring: We decided against fees and sponsoring from players for the following reasons:
- Fees: If players pay fees, they have a right (by law) for a certain service, that we may not be able to give (like answering emails within short time, money back, for server crashes, uptime of a given percentage...)
- sponsoring by players: If we accept sponsoring from players, people may think, that people who have given money will receive better service, items etc. We even don't want that people think that it may be this way. Additionaly, it would be moraly hard to ban / punish a player that has given money. We don't want this morality conflicts.

Both things have also the drawback, that both will possibly include founding a company or club. This will force us to get in touch with the ministry of finance (i.e. we have to fill out forms and perhaps pay taxes).

Therefore we will accept sponsoring only be team members (i.e. people mentioned on this homepage).

HERZLICHEN GLÜCKWUNSCH NATÜRLICH AUCH VON MIR.

Obwohl ich noch nicht so lange hier bin, kann ich es keine Minute erwarten wieder nach Hause zu kommen und mich einzuloggen. Herzlichen Glückwunsch und vielen Dank also auch zu diesem tollen RPG.

Ich hätte noch eine Bitte an alle die dieses lesen:
Kann jemand die Nachrichten auch auf Deutsch übersetzen? Mein englisch ist zwar so weit ok um daraus die wichtigsten dinge herauslesen zu können , doch traue ich mir nicht zu die vielen Fragen die ich erhalten habe zu beantworten. Bitte seid so nett und übersetzt es für alle die keine möglichkeit hatten Englisch zu erlernen, denn auch sie möchten wissen wie und wann es jetzt weitergeht.

Ich versuch mal es für die Damen sogut es geht mit meinen auch eher bescheidenen Englischkenntnissen hin zu bekommen.

Da Bror und Baldur Ihr Studium abgeschlossen haben, müssen Sie und der Illarionserver die Universität verlassen. Es war geplant den jetztigen Server am kommenden Montag herrunterzufahren. Ein neuer Server ist zwar schon seit ca. 4 Wochen bestellt, aber bisher noch nicht geliefert. Da die neue Hardware dann auch statt wie bisher in München, in Berlin betrieben werden soll, hätte die ganze Umzieherei und Neuinstallation der Software sich wohl einiges hingezogen. In dieser Zeit wäre Illarion nicht am Netz gewesen.
Nach einem Gespräch mit einem Verantwortlichen der Uni dürfen die Beiden den Server jetzt aber noch ein Weilchen in München betreiben. Baldur ist ca. mitte Juni wieder in München um den neuen Server dann nach Berlin zu holen. Natürlich wird gehofft, daß die neue Hardware bis dahin geliefert wurde und läuft.

Dann wurde die Frage nach einem Spendenkonto zur Unterstützung angeregt. Dieses wurde abgelehnt. Gründe dafür sind z.B. das jemand der einen Beitrag zahlt, auch gewisse Rechte hat (vom Gesetzgeber her). Bei einer "Spende", könnten einige denken, daß die Zahlenden einige Vorzüge gegenüber anderen erhalten (bessere Items, bevorzugte Behandlung etc.).
Auch eine mögliche Bestrafung solcher Spieler würde moralisch schwerer fallen wie bei anderen. Deshalb - Nein!
Die einzigen von denen Geld angenommen wird, sind die jetzigen "Mitarbeiter". Ihr findet Sie auf dieser Seite unter Feedback ---> Mithilfe.

Fazit:
Illarion wird vorerst weiterlaufen bis der Zeitpunkt der Neu- und Reinstallation feststeht.

(Besser krieg ich´s nicht hin auf die Schnelle)
