Skills

Post by Kasume »

Anyone find that it takes REALLY long and TONS of work to get your blacksmithing up? It's taken me 2 weeks and I havn't been able to make anything new! What's with that? I think it's just a LITTLE too hard to train your skills. Speaking the game is not all about skills.

That´s not true.

Maybe 50-60% are on your side, but definitely not 99%.

Perhaps it is to hard to gain a skill, but understand that the whole game isn´t balanced and so changes in the skill-system happen from time to time.

Probably we have in a few months a complete other situation, begin complaining about the skill -system until it´s ready, but previously it makes less sense.

yes i definitely oppose. dont you see how lame it would be if everyone could master your skill and outdo you so easily. It gives alot of room for advancement , something you can dedicate your time to. It may be alot of work but do you think someone could master something in three weeks.
And it gives you new things to look forward to as motivation i think its definitely well made.

I really do think though that the skills is way to hard. It shouldn't take a man 1 year of every waking moment just to master the ability! It's insane! It feels that I could be playing other games.....but no....instead I am pressing the shift key and then clicking on the hammer and then on the iron ore. Ok...This is not my veiw of fun. Adding a extra click wouldn't make it more exciting. They should cut it down because to do something so boring.....god....it's really boring. I love the game. But seriously....not that much. I don't like being bored all day. Defeats the purpose of a "game". A "game" is suppose to be "fun".

But if he wants to roleplay a Blacksmith it doesnt help that he starts with no skill, and also that the skill takes years to work up to a decent standard. However, I do believe this thready should be closed, this has already been discussed a million times and there isnt likely to be anything said to change the minds of the GM's, not unless its a big check :D

well break an arm or something and say blacksmithing is too hard and go to something easier, like baking.

Or try to "learn" it, instead of just "raise the skill".

But think how lame it would be if the skill wasnt as easy and you could learn it really easily. You would be a master in no time, then what would you do? That would be boring. If you cannot take it, chose an easier path.

Yoda told Luke it would be hard, but things that are hard to gain, are usually very rewarding. Am i not wrong?

No one wants the skills to be easy. Just not so dang hard.

When you start a character they are usually between ages 16 and 25.
They should already know a skill by that time. You should be able to pick a skill when generating your character. (not a master in that skill but about half way)

Then any other skills you decide to persue will be a little harder than your chosen one.

But this is probably a mute point because it doesn't look like it will be changed in the near future being it has been discussed over and over and over and nothing has changed.

But what is more rewarding than mastering such a hard skill? You have something to look back on and say "I did it!". It is very worthwhile if you ask me if you master it.

Thank you SO MUCH CROCKET. That's what I am trying to say! At least tone it down a little! It doesn't have to be easy! I just don't wanna have to past down my account to my kids when I die just so I can get a decent blacksmithing in this game! It just isn't fair. I wanted to play a Blacksmith/Warrior type of person. I can't do that when I can hardly make anything but a helmet....

Forgot to add. What do you mean by learn it? Also if you say the skill is to easy to master and you get bored with it....wouldn't you get bored sitting infront of the computer wasting vauluable tiem clicking and pressing shift. Isn't that much work. Basically when you finally do it your some poor idiot that has just enough money to keep a computer running to play the game. Coffee cups everywhere and hair sticking everywhere with bloodshot eyes. Yeah...I wanna be that sooo badly......

Also..when did orcs become sissy little bakers?

What do I mean with "learn it".
Simple.
What do you do to learn something in real life? You find a teacher, or master if it's a craft. You start as an apprentice, learn step by step, and eventually become a craftsman yourself someday.

Yeah that idea might work. One problem. No one is mastered at the skill. I know not a single soul at the moment.

Well at least make it so a hard long 3 weeks of work can make you AT LEAST 1 new item!

Side Question : Would making rings be any easier?

rings are from gold and gold is hard to get hands on so the answer would be ...probably not, also depends on your experience with the certain type of smithing.

I actually think that in reality making rings is no harder than any other skill with use, it's just that gold is so rare that you don't get to do it a lot.

I think goldsmithing should remain as hard as it is, and again, once you get even a little decent at it you don't fail at it any appreciable time. So just because it's not maxed, you can still make anything out of gold.

Ok does goldsmithing and blacksmithing tie in together? OR is it two totally different skills. I am on a different computer and can't check on my actual game.

OK good! Then I guess I will try being a goldsmith. Going to make rings now. Also I got my mining up high so I get nuggets quite often. I think I finally found my trade skill :D Ok I am done on this thread.

you make rings in goldsmithing,an extremely hard skill to raise due to the rarity of nuggets. i think adano has a good point, learn how to do things. such as the most effecient way to do things. some advice i learned from morrowind, talk is free  but doing goldsmithing, dont expect to make much money due to the lack of demand for rings.

There was a time when I thought it was much too hard too.
It has taken me maybe 2 month to become mastercarpenter now, and somehow I feel that's alright, actually I don't think I would have put so much work in it if it had been easy, but so it was a real goal to reach for me.

Well, I also thought it was too hard, and many people told me to quit if I didn t like it. Well, I did  and I m wondering what I m doing here...
So stop fighting for it, they won t change it.

Im not anymore. I think I can be good at goldsmithing. My mining is good so getting the gems won't be a problem at all! I get gems AND gold nuggets right there in town. Doesn't take too much work. Just some more clicking. In the end...it's more fun than blacksmithing what I believe. I just need to get good at gemcutting. Unless I start buying gems....Anyway even if the demand for rings isn't that much..well who cares. I can eventually work myself up to diamond rings. Make some things to use for myself and not just for money!
