Some proposals.

Post by Caranthir the great »

Hello everybody.

Before I propose anything I would like to state that after have excessively use of the search-function, I came up without a topic that would include my following suggestions.
Also I would want to futherly state that these proposals are not intented by any means as discriminating, offensive or mean, and I most sincerely apologise if you are offended by them. :P

I propose the following things:

Firstly, The numbers should be toggled off from the board-account names.
Why? Simply because they aren't fit there. I am sure that the numbers are not so essential to anybody that they would disturb the athmosphere on the boards, in my opinion the effect would be quite on the contrary.
Remeber that numbers are invalid in all forms (roman too) in Illarion characters, so why should they be allowed in the forums?

Secondly, I would want to suggest limiting the posting possibilities for the accountless players to the 'Accounts' and possibly 'Newbies'.
You may wonder why, and you may also feel angry because this might seem discriminating to some, but I counter you with question 'Why should they be able to do that?' If they have no access to the game, what reasonable may they contribute on the boards where people are discussing about the game? Also this would remove quite a lot of work from the gamemasters because they would not have to read throught tons of useless topics. (And we players wouldn't have to read throught them either  )

For your second proposal,
maybe make usergroups, so that people without an account may see the technical, account and general forum (cause they need them in case of problems with an account or other technically problems),
and people with an account have permission to the other forums.
Maybe to the proposal in a second step after playing a month or two, so that they gain much knowledge about the game before posting the same over and over again.

Another possibility is, to give all the right to read (getting some impressions about roleplay on the board), but not to write (in steps like mentioned above).

Cara, if I remember right this has in fact been proposed before.
I like the idea of restricting board access for not approved players.
However, I see some problems here.
Firstly the game and the boards are two completely seperate things, which don't even share the same technical resources (in the way they are programmed, I know they are on the same server).
So it would be additional work for Cosma and the board administrators to unlock the boards for approved players, especially as they needed to figure out the board accounts for this player first.
Secondly the only boards which unapproved players could not post in were the guild and rp boards. A test board makes no sense if you cant test there as long as you need it (When you're approved you most likely found out how the boards work by posting in the other boards.) Newbie, account, and technical boards are the ones you will most likely post in when you need help and the general board might also be useful.
But players who can't play yet almost never post in the rp or guild boards, because they have no cause to do so. So preventing them from posting there wouldn't change much.

I have another proposal. Would it be possible to hide the post counts? Some people seem to satisfy their need of levelling up and become the best by posting spam just to increase their post count. Maybe removing this number could help to decrease the number of senseless spam posts, especially in the test forum.

Proposed before ? Must have been long ago, if. But it is a good proposal though, with some sense : Restricting several board parts...

Actually, a lot of new proposals came up when the signatures were first disabled. There are several topics which were created, but I believe a couple were deleted.

I think that having *moving* smiley faces on a the rpg board ruins the 'atmosphere' on the rpg board too, or do they come to life with magic? Heh, also msm, icq, profile, homepage and e-mail should not appear beneath your post in the rpg board, I mean what the hell are they to medieval people? The Private Message could be renamed to something else more related. People call them messages by doves and so on, just something like that. Oh, and it should be shaped like a dove too!
