There have been countless complaints about the skill system, although there are still people that are for it. Skill raising is harder now, but instead of making them easier to raise, why don't one item at a time appear at a time rather than just making a whole slew of items? Keep both newbies and elders happy.
Many have came up with this before, but you must think about it...as I said before, in carpentry, I find it frustrating that making over 300 handcrafted items isn't enough to get past the ability to make something that looks like an old chicken bone.
It would also give the person more motivation to work, because he or she could now make something new rather than being stuck and eventually giving up. This would also give more diversity. What I mean by this is that there will always be somebody, somewhere that could be better at a craft than another person. For example, every master blacksmith could make plate armor these days. There are always battles for the lowest selling prices, and there isn't much of a distinction...but if an advanced blacksmith could make a firesword but NOT plate armor, then the sale can go to the more advanced blacksmith that CAN make both fireswords and plate armor. Not every advanced carpenter can make a wand, but some can make quality battle staves. The most advanced one can make everything, and gain more recognition as well as the sales they deserve for their hard work.
Needless to say, this method would also prove to be more realistic. When I'm excelling at something in real life, I learn one new thing at a time rather than eight. As somebody slowly progresses, they get better and better.
Unfortunately, this post may disappear by tomorrow and nobody that has to do with the skill programming in the game may look at it. But it's always worth a shot, isn't it?

i really do think this should be the way its done, people may say it sounds runescapish but yes i agree. this makes it much better. this could also be implemented to appease the tailors begging for more money. no offense. that way if you want a wizard hat just to be cool you cant just try a few times and *poof* a spiffy new looking wizard hat.

But i think you should be able to smith a new item if you are experienced enough. I think for a new item you have to read a book to be able to produce new items.
If you eperienced enough you could buy a book about smithing a better Helmet after reading it you could smith the new helmet. But the Books must be cuts in different classes one for the easy things one for better things one for experienced and one for masters. So that you cant read a book to making a platemail armor when you are a beginner in blacksmithing.

It is useless to write the same things again and again and it costs to much time to read through dozens of same proposals.
