Idea for the future update

Post by Kringin »

I have noticed that it takes me 20 seconds to log in, thats very long. It wasn't like that before, it used to be about 10 seconds. Takes my friends a lot less then that to log in. If the program preloaded a few of the essential and large files ahead of time this would be handy in many ways.

Many times I get kicked off the server, it happens every once in a while. So when I log in people have been talking to me and I have been looking at the black screen for a quite a few seconds and I am just clueless on what is going on. Then yesterday I got kicked off and logged back in a few moments later; and I was being hacked away by a demon while i was looking at the black screen and waiting for everything to appear.

So can my idea be implemented or in some way the log in made better so all the players and all the other stuff appears after the main screen appears? This would be a lot safer for everyone in various ways.

Is it possible that if you wanted to keep it the way it is then:
-main screen appears (the screen with the map display and items etc.)
-the land appears
-the character's statistics and items appear
-finally the character and the other characters themselves appear and hte Monsters
This would definately be an alternative.
or:
-The main screen appears
-you log in through there
-the land appears and the monsters
-the character's statistics and items appear
-finally the character and the other characters themselves appears
So I hope that these ideas prove to be useful and I hope to see them in action. :)

Your problem does not apear to everyone, Kringin.
Like said in a quote from good ol' "Age of Empires"
Blame it on your ISP!

I think, that's not the fact, Loki.
I have the same problem. With the old client I was ingame at once but with the new one it last at about 15 seconds 'til I can see something or play. And this can be dangerous like the example from Kringin shows.
I would like to be in at once again, too!

But isnt it strange, that i as a 56k ModemUser dont have such a huge delay when entering the game? So it cant be cliend-sided.
2 possiblities come into my mind:

First: Server has a delay in answering your requests.
Second: Your connection is hanging.

Maybe both are at the same present.

Havein a CableCon does not always mean to be as fast as lighting in the internet.
Maybe it is not the fault of you ISP, but rather your "own". Maybe your PC's are slow in a specific point. Dont know which, i am just guessing.

One thought:
If your client has to load more external files, i.e. graphics this might cause the slowdown.

it would help to state the stats of your pc...
especially videocard/video memory, main memory, cpu would be interesting...
my guess it's just because some of you have a faster pc/videocard and thus have less delay at startup..

Ok I used the clock to count my seconds it took about 15 seconds to start up. Loki it seems you need to do more computer research :D . But anyways if you preload many of the essential and large files then the problem will be solved for everyone. And besides teh fact that I have a slower PC I do live a few thousand miles away from Germany :) and so do many of you.

Actually, Kringin, I believe that's why it's loading slower now, although I haven't seen the client source so can't be sure.

There are a lot of files being preloaded now I guess so the client runs faster in the long run, but as you can tell takes longer to load. A splash screen or loading... bar or something would problaby be nice though.

Yes, a bar would be nice. And uhh about the preloading thing what I meant was preloading when the log-in screen appears. Is it possible that if you wanted to keep it the way it is then:
-main screen appears (the screen with the map display and items etc.)
-the land appears
-the character's statistics and items appear
-finally the character and the other characters themselves appear and hte Monsters
