See what you wear.
I believe many months ago, or maybe years, there was a time when you could see what everyone else was wearing. I don't know how to explain this right but:
If you wore two knight shields your screen graphics would show you with two knight shields (so everyone could see too).
I also believe it was taken off due to PKing, so now we have the E-mail application approach, will it be going back to how ( I have heard ) it was?

why not make it simple? you whear any armor you look like you wear the same thing, and if you dont have anything on, it looks like cloth. any sword looks the same, sheild, helm, there is only 1 graphic that displas you hold a sword or axe. cuts the work alot and gives us what we want.
from over 100 duplications to more around 00-200, right?

ONE character with equipment needs 16 single Animation scenes.
EVERY animation picture must be placed, and then worked over to minimize antialiasing effects PIXEL BY PIXEL or it would look bad.
then, EVERY picture must be cut out MANUALLY.
then, EVERY picture must be placed correctly in the client (EXACT PIXEL VALUE!!!).
As far as you can see, a lot of work that can not be done without someone working ONLY for illarion, or with a MUCH bigger team we don't have enough skilled programmers AND graphic artists for...
I think, that should explain it.
Again.

honestly, i dont think they can legally charge money for this game. Because it has hobbits in it and hobbits are copyrighted by Tolkien since he made them up. So if they did make pop ups ads or pay to play for this game they would take hobbits out. And yes, i would love if they put in this new graphic. I dont like watching my little hobbit walk around in nothing but a t-shirt and pants when he has armor on and a sword with him. But, i suppose this must wait for later.
@Bumbol Woodstock: It's fairly obvious that you are unfamiliar with copyright law. Your reasoning is unfounded in law for a great number of points.
1. Fair use clause.
2. The work is copywritten, not the words.
3. You can not copyright a title.
4. Calling a character a Hobbit does not rob J. R. Tolkien of any money.
5. If your theory was correct, then we would not have "robots" today, as that was originally written by Isaac Asimov in one of his stories (dont' remember which one). Or maybe it was android.
6. The copyright law works nothing like that.

how about: you click on them (bowth keys) and it says:
"You see Iqloo*`. He is wearing a amulet, viking helmet, hunting armor, dagger, metal shield, diamond ring, ruby ring, trousers, shoes, and gloves."
*if you dont know whoever your "looking" at, it will just say "someone" or "someone 23191".
This could also help in other roleplaying ways aswell, by just editing the text.
If you woar a cape (?) you couldnt see anything except for their helmet, so if you didnt want people to see your stuffs youd jus wear one of those. (Cape's would proably have to be more expensive, and muchos harder to make, to keep them not as common).
It wouldnt take programmers long to type all that stuff out. they could proably come up with some thing where they wouldnt have to type at all like put (i know this isnt C++or whatever they use) $#(@name_itemslot20)#@()*!&!()&@# #$(*&!name_itemslot30)#@)*@. wouldnt i make a great programmer

yes i like iqloos idea much more than actually haveing your equipment seen. and people can hide there weapons behind there cloak or robe so people that look at them cant see it. Having actual characters show what there wearing on screen would be like in runescape, o look another guy in full rune. And it wouldnt work for this game at all
Im still trying to imagine a female hobbit in platemail, full helm, with a knight shield and fire sword

Well I don't know all the technical details as to why it doesn't lag, and I'm not even sure if it would make Illarion lag that much, but that really isn't the point, the point is it would just be too much work to do, so it won't happen.
I really like Iqloo's idea. It would greatly add to RPing and doesn't seem like that much work. (Don't yell at me for saying that
i just meant it seems like not much compared to graphics and such). And the cape idea is good, because it could cover up perhaps the weapon they are wielding and such, as sometimes one still wants to have a few surprises up his sleeve.

I think some more graphics would really lighten up this game alot, still it is not what makes the game what it is so much as the people and things you can do in it. Still I dare say we all spend time looking at the screen seeing all the races looking all the very same all the time. I would like it if the current weapon you are holding would be displayed as such, a graphic for every weapon type would be enough though and all shields could look the same it would just show you are holding one. So all swords look the same etc. Now there are ALOT of different armour peices that could be put together but I do not think we need a graphic for everything so how about making it in stages...ie: Stage 1; a simple cloth look (elves look like that now for example) Stage 2; light armour look (if you were wearing say leather armour) Stage 3; medium armour look (for chainmail like armour) Stage 4; heavy armour look (wearing platemail armour would make you look like this)
Depending on what type of armour you wear you look different now, yet it is not every peice of armour by itself, and what stage you look could perhaps be based on chest armour alone for a simple solution. It would still be 3 different looks added for every race (one we already have and should be kept) this may of course be entierly too much work for the staff I don't really know but I think it would not be too hard to implent alot easier than having a grapic for everything you wear atleast. I think this would add alot of colour to the game. It could be doubeled with being able to see exactly what someone is wearing using the text method suggested above wich I think is a good one since you would be able to tell what people are wearing by looking at them. But I still think a bit of different "dresses" would make everything look alot different and inspire people.

If I remember right (search the boards,if you want to know it exact), you need for each figur 16 animated pictures.
This means by adding two more graphics for each race (as Drakantor proposed), adding and making 2x16x2(female and male)= 64 new graphics/race.
I think, that there are several other things, which are more important.
And also thinking on the traffic, what this amount of graphics will bring, changing your clothes/armours all the time.

I never had any lag when I played Runescape, even when one of my brother's were downloading something small on a different computer on the server. I like Iqloo's idea too, but I would prefer it if we had the graphics ... and I dont think that something being a lot of work is a good reason for it never to be implimented. You dont go on holiday to Grimsby instead of a cruise round the world just because it is easier to arrange ... I know there are more important things to do first but once they are done adding things like extra graphics could be done over a length of time ...

Seeing what someone is wearing at his onscreen Avatar (Paperdolling) is absolutly nonsense. It way to much work, doesnt improve the game in anyway and will cause either a bigger client (Yes, i am a 56k modem user) or the traffic beetween client/server.
You can do it in so many (better) ways to "see" what your dialog partner is wearing than a change on the avatar.
I would like to call back in your minds that it has been proposed, to open a similar to your invetory looking section which shows the "visable" equipment of anybody you desire.
So there is no need to revive a already death topic like this one.

Well I dont know how to search for older topics, sorry. And also newer people to the game can express their opinions too. I have a 56k modem too, but I share mine with my two brothers, one downloads music often, and the other downloads god knows what constantly! Even right now I am lagging, it makes me so mad that he does this
Add on to my idea thing:
You could have a .txt file in your character thing, that you could edit, to replace the someone 1234. It would be a short RP descripiton of your character
Example With Text File Filled, Non Introduced
"You see a frail old dwarf , he is wearing a viking helmet, and his cloak is concealing the rest of his clothing"
Example With Text File Not Filled, Non Introduced
"You see someone 1234 , he is wearing a viking helmet, and his cloak is concealing the rest of his clothing"
Example With Introduction
"You see BingoDingoMingoRingo , he is wearing a viking helmet, and his cloak is concealing the rest of his clothing"
Iqloo did good
