Tax return?

Post by Perry »

How does it work? I did not see a detailed explanation anywhere. One would be very much appreciated :)

Well the taxes paid to a city are returned to the citizens in the form of magical gems.

It will be paid when a months ends and a new one starts. You will get those gems just like you pay your taxes: automatically. It will of course take in account the taxes already paid.

Wasn't it just implemented today? I guess that we'll have first gems at the end of the month..

Er... In my case, I've already donated ~40 gold to Cadomyr (outside of taxes), will this be accounted for, for cadomyr citizens?

Are the gems rewarded based on the gems of power? ie; topaz/sapphire for cadomyr

I know only things "made by Jerem" and not "trade by Jerem" ;-)

Cadomyr is not topaz and sapphires.

Topaz and Amethysts.

Now here is the question I have. When you donate an item to your said city.... is the donation equal to the price of the item or is it equal to the price an NPC pays?

This is awkward... I received one lvl 2 gem and one lvl 1 gem.. payed around 30 golds in tax until now. On my alt, that i have never played, I received 5 level 1 gems. He payed a total of ... 15 silvers as tax?

Where's the difference between me, a rich merchant who pays TONS of coins to tax, and a noobie who pays just a little bit, if both get the same?

@Perry, how do the gem merchants work in towns? I've not looked into it, but perhaps they take a significant fee, and by receiving a level 2 gem you bypass that?

I have no idea, never tried it. If that's the case, then it's all right.

The gold you paid is tax, no forced gem buying. Like in RL the benefit from taxes is redistribution from wealth to any citizen. How many Gems you get have nothing to do with how many Tax you pay, but with the rank you have in your town and how many taxes your city get in total from any citizens.

Anyway the dev(s) which made the tax system think about a direct benefit/stimulation for paying high taxes, one idea is to give rank-points for high taxes. But that is neither implemented nor decided yet. Just keep in mind that the whole tax system is still work in process.

Socialism is only a step away from communism, why should the poor get anything for free?

As much as I'd love to jump in and bash socialism/communism, this is a game. Go join the laissez faire hemp necktie inn if you dont like it!

Edit: Also, it'd be truly socialist if the taxes/donations were converted into X amount of gems, then those X amount of gems were distributed among all the citizens. But everyone gets the same reward (depending on rank) regardless of how many citizens there are. So it's actually not socialist at all, since you donated X amount of money and you have been rewarded not only for your input, but others input. In this case, you are not being punished in any way because of how this distribution magically pools everything together and pays everyone more than their input.

It's some form of government spending that doesnt exist in RL because it has no actual foundation, but it's very nice =)

Also on the note of a rank 2 and a rank 1 gem versus five rank 1 gems... It costs nothing to combine gems (maybe this should be changed?) but think of it this way.. lets say it was just one rank 2 gem versus 4 gems. Those 4 gems could have 2 of each kind, and thus not allowing you to create a rank 2 gem. It's not much, but that is the benefit, the mitigation of not having enough gems to create a higher rank.

Socialism seems like an odd redistributive method for a corrupt oligarchy like Galmair, does it not?
