"You see, in my town, we'd have these gargantuan monstrosities called steam engines and we would bake pies with them, and ferry them to Zeus."
I know Illarion has medieval tech basically, and medieval knowledge of tech/medicine/the body/sciences in general, but, I thought since you know, gnomes being smart and all, they would have a greater knowledge of, well, everything.
So if thats the case, why can't my scholarly hobbit? (with IG reasons, of course. A band of gnomes have visited and stayed at his town recently)
Obviously not high-tech stuff, but more pushing the realms of sci-fi/fantasy. Maybe not in a concrete way (my hobbit may not have a way to know that everything is made by small atoms... but he may infer that everything may be built out of small little units, or something)... but just say, ideas. Some may call him crazy, but hey!
He's a smart hobbit.

If you keep calling them hobbits the estate of J R R Tolekin is going to come down on you like the hammer of Thor.

There's no reason that he can't. Again i can say it's not quite earth so some portions of science may be mre advanced then others. you won't see any Ipad 3's laying around but in a world where magic and sorcery exist it's also likely that these forms of 'free energy' have led to the development and understanding of some basic forms of physic's and could possibly have developed rundimentary concepts on artifcal power and lighting in some regions. The difference i would say is that it's not likely that such technologies are widely spread as they would be n a modern world where travel and communication allow idea's and concepts to be considered worldly technology.
Things i could see existing in illarion
Steam power
Rudimentary electric power
some degree of Physics(based on magic) based on magic
But that's my personal opinion. Illarion has magic's of various types, it has druidry and alchemy which have likely advanced chemistry and medical sciences etc etc. So i'd say scattered advancements here and there but nothing highly modern like microchips etc is likely to exist.

OHHOHOHOHOHOHO.
I guess I have a general idea then, Athian. Just hoping more people shine on the topic. >.>

There was a gnome in game carrying around schematics of some type of "machine" they were trying to build having to explain to some exactly what a "machine" was. I believe it was to help farmers with their planting among other ideas of his.

I'd be happy with a horse to ride. An airship would be great! A horse would be more realistic. NO! I want a unicorn! The Returner wrote:AIRSHIPS.

Yep, that's what I want. A Unicorn to ride! Or pegasus! Oh my. I need one of each now! And Evie will want one of each as well, I'm going to need a whole coral full. Yep, that's what I need, a coral full of unicorns and winged horses, and a few slaves to tend to them.... will my list ever end?

Alright lets keep the nonsense and spam down to a bare minimum, if you have nothing to add to the proposed question and or topic then don't add anything at all.
