I think swords should be more effective at parrying defensively. Parrying with swords should improve the better your slashing and parry are (of course if you are hit by a large war hammer with considerable momentum, a sword wouldn't do much).
And also, if one persons parry is at a certain level it is sometimes impossible for people's parry lower than that, to hit them, no matter if there is a group of people attacking them. I mean, in RL if one swordsman was attacked my 3 or 4 people at a time, he would not be able to fend them all off, no matter how good he was. However, in the game, you could have one mage with good parry attacking many different people whilst defending themself from 4 people already (so perhaps someone's parry could be divided by 0.5 times the ammout of people are attacking, so 4 on 1 would halve your parry).
This, in my opinion, would add a lot of realism to the game, and also, people attacking monsters would have better success in small groups, even if they aren't very experienced fighter.

That of course leads me to think, Why would a mage have parry at all??
They arenot exactly the hand to hand combat kind of people... something should be done there, like set a limit to how high it could get.
just an idea though.

What about in LOTR, when Galdalf fights with a sword, AND his wand hehe

And if you have read the book, you know that Gandalf is not a mere mortal man..

I kinda like the idea of if 5 people are attacking someone, or a mob, it couldn't parry them all.

It'll be thought about.

Perhaps a mage could be arrow to parry arrows with a spell (that is effective for a certain amount of time, based on skills and a bit of randomness however this woud encourage casting in town.) but swords, well how well would a wand block a sword ?

this seems cool i like the idea hermie but i also think mishrack is right. there should be a level set for it.

@Roke: I'm not a great mage, I fight better than my weak magic, the only spells i can do (as far as i know) are: red flame, heal (not res) the blue explosion, red fire ball, blue swilry thing. And I mean a sword blocking stuff, but a wand wouldn't block much I dont think, it would probably just . . . snap

So perhaps the level of parry could be restricted against how high your intelligence is.

So stupid people would be good at parry? El Diablo would kill us all!

Instead of having intelligence to effect the parry, It could instead be the number and the skill of your magic runes.

no realy much to say if we got more parry from people there would be a ram page of pkers! if some one got god like parry we all would be doomed!
