I know there is elven swordsman but tell me if im wrong but did you ever see an ranger with a sword a shield a helmet and a chainmail?. So i think you should be able to parry with your dagger.

Well you can parry with a dagger, parrying is usually using a weapon of some sort to ward off a blow.
