Regarding NPC Word Tagging...

Post by Aerceriah »

Hello.

Within the last fifteen minutes or so, I've finished my character's adventurous mini-journey from the island 'Noobia' and into the town of Trollsbane and from what I've seen so far, the game seems quite impressive at this point.

The server is getting a slight reboot, so I figured I'd take the time to make a brief visit to these boards to ask about how the system works for greeting NPCs in regards to other races. Is it possible, for example, for an orc to greet an NPC with mild grunting or perhaps by speaking his own language? Of course, I realize with a system like this, it could be a bit complicated, depending on how many tags and how specific they are used, especially for a single greeting, but it's something I've noticed with a few other MMORPGs, where GMs and mods alike have the option of adding tags on the spot. Then again, from a technical point of view, I don't know how easy that is to manage. At this point, I'm not playing any other character, except the one I just made, otherwise I'd experiment myself to find out, but any response I get from this would be appreciated, nonetheless. ;)

You can only talk to the npcs in te "normal" words, like hello/hi/buy/help and so on, they do not reconize something like a grunted "greebas oomie", however you could rp it out loud and simply whisper the words to trigger the command, furthermore the Npcs react on their own race language.

Short answer:
Yes.

Long answer:
Yes, but as you guessed it depends on how the NPC was scripted.
On the fly adding of trigger words for the NPC is not possible. However there is a rather simple scripting language for NPC, which basicly allowes everyone to create thier own NPC and submit them.

Oh, understandable. Yes, one of the first things that came into my mind when I was interacting with one random NPC was, "Hm. If I ever decide to play an orc in the near future, I can just imagine how much of a fool I'll be if I give a great, big, sincere, "Hello!", to merchant NPCs in front of all my mean-spirited orc buddies. ;)

Of course, no. Not that big of an issue and in fact, the orc himself would probably refrain from communicating with just about anyone, aside from occasional grunting and battle-crying when about to devour a bowl of human flesh, mmmhh! I could see how the whispering technique could really come in handy, in that case though. That idea completely slid pass me, I probably would have realized this in the long-run. Thanks for the quick responses there, folks. I'll have to check the link out and see if I can come up with anything.
