Blood Trail

Post by Olive »

((closed RP, dove if you feel you can take part and want in. All involved will hopefully take part is a small mini quest))

An orc is standign outside goldburg fortress. he removes a single piece of jewlery from a fresh corpse and is on his way with a wrapped wiggling bundle. As the pool of blood aroundthe corpse stops expanding a small rustling can be heard, then a figure sneaks out of the fog and tries to pick up the corpse but finds it tooo heavy. Instead the figure grabs it by the legs and slowly drags the body off into a small grove and loads the body on a mule with the help of the mules owner. Silently the two begin walking south, staying off the road to avoid detection. The corpse slowly drips blood jarred loose by the mules walking.

~Chester arrived at Goldburg, and noticed a door ajar, and some depots 'unlocked' within~

"Those are Olive's!" Chester exclaims before falling silent to survey the situation. He checks the Gates and relocks them. Next he secures the opened depots. As he's doing this, his favorite Gnome pops in for a visit.

"Olive's Dead!" the Gnome exclaims.

"What?"

"Yeah and Oliver too!" the Gnome relates.

"Who did this?" Chester moves closer to him with a fierce resolve.

"The Orc Rugh'Toh, in Bane earlier tonight!" the Gnome gives.

"Are you sure? How do you know?" Chester asks.

"I saw it happen!" the Gnome says, "Earlier in Bane at the workshop! Chris tried to help but was wounded too! Then Olive tried to help, and she was taken away by Rugh! I dunno where"

Chester looks at the depots, the Gates and the Blood outside. "They came here." Chester says sadly. "I don't think that's Orc blood friend, and the Baby is gone too."

The Gnome nods, sadly, seeing the Blood outside.

"When I catch up with him, I'll make him pay!" Chester vows.

"I don't know, he seemed pretty powerful!" the Gnome retorts.

"Aye, but we have better armor and weapons" Chester says, before pointing to the Vault where the two artifacts "Axe of Irmorom" and "Ironsledge" resided, untouched.

"I think this is as good a cause for their use as any!" Chester says, "Rugh is going to Cherga when I meet him with these!"

The Gnome grins mischievously, as Gnome often do when they are plotting elaborate schemes.

Almost in a 'telepathic' moment, they both nod at each in a fierce sort of 'resigned' determination, before heading their separate ways.

Chester completes securing Olive's things, and locking the room with the empty crib, before donning his finest armor, Flame Helm, Magical Serinjahs, Poison Daggers and Sky Shields, and then entered the Vault.

Inside, lay all the wealth of Goldburg, Gems, Goldcoins, Crowns, Rings and amulets. However, in the center, upon an altar lay the two famed axes blessed by the Gods. Kneeling before them, Chester prayed silently to Irmorom and Bragon, the creators of these tools of their power. His heart burned with fierce fury, however, words failed to form in Chester's lips. What could he say? Three of his members had been wounded or worse, murdered, by an Orc. Not just any Orc, the 'Warlord' of the Orcs on this Isle. The Bane of all peace-loving folk, the Orcs stupidly smash and destroy all in their path. This must stop!

Squinting his eyes in fury, Chester grabbed the two holy axes, slicing them through the air, and marched out the door toward the Gates, quoting his favorite Passage, given by his father, long ago.

"Yeah though I walk through the shadow of the Valley of Death, I shall fear no evil....." Chester quoted.

"...for I am the meanest son of a Bitch in the Valley!"

Chester swelled with pride and smiled in a "Berserker" sort of way, and closed the Gates of Goldburg behind him, as he followed the trail of Blood to the south.

"Hmm....maybe's she's alive...." Chester muses, noticing the odd spacing between drops. He picks up a stone with a blood spot upon it, and thinks "it won't help Rugh though....." as he then crushes the stone in his hand, allowing the dust to sprinkle through his fingers.

Slowly, Chester follows the trail south toward the swamps.

The blood trail has run south thru the swamp. several times the blood drips seem to be very close together, as if the mule had to stop. Perhaps the cargo needed to be re-secured, or, just maybe, re-pacified.

The Insects in the swamp are thick, almost taunting pursuers to follow through their numbers, which seems much greater than before.

If one could make it through the swamp he or she would see the trail leading, ever so faintly, south and west, one might even think it leads to the cemetary, where several unpleasant altars reside. A few dead trolls are seen, blasted by powerful magics and their faces twisted in agony of their last moments.

With a small bundle in his hands Rugh'toh is walking through the desert towards the north. The silent night is filled with a cry of a baby where Rugh'toh is going.
His hands and his whole body are full of dirt and blood. One sword is missing at his side - it might still stick in the body of Oliver down in the jail of Bane.

Rugh'toh continues his way, not caring for the crying baby in his arms, finally reaching the feet of the holy mountains. He looks up to the dark Crest where the moon is shining behind. He stops and mumbles to himself in orcish tongue...

Chester is looking toward the ground, brushing some dust from his hands as Draken approaches. His hair seems unkempt, and eyes wild with a bloodshot hue. He looks at Draken through half-closed eyes, one of which twitches.

"Don't you know?" Chester Asks.

"Three of our members have been murdered by the Orc Rugh'Toh."

Chester points to the Ground, at the splattering of random Bloodspots on the ground heading toward the swamps.

"There lies one of them. A Mother, Farmer, Cook and friend. Her Baby stolen from our Home." Chester says as an eye 'twitches'.

Chester suddenly reveals a magical Axe of Excellent Quality, causing you to jump back a moment.

"I am going to end the life at the end of this trail, and if it's not Rugh'Toh, then I'll hunt him too." Chester says.

Chester then looks away toward the south, and also the Orcen Mountains, saying almost as if in a daze, "He Tasks me, he tasks me you see?"

"I'll chase him round the Copper mountains, Round the Forests of Gobaith, yeah even unto Hellbriar itself before I give him up!" Chester vows.

Looks at you as if for the first time and asks, "Come with me.....I'll need help seeing this trail in the dark. My eyes aren't as good as they once were."

Not really waiting for an answer, Chester begins to follow the trail south through the woods entering the swamp, just as the sun is setting.

The sun sets, a fog rolls in over the Ferns, mudholes and buzzing of insects of the Swamp. Occasional lights illuminate here and there as fireflies expose their light to ward off predators. The trail of Bloodspots is difficult to follow as it winds across the mud flats south, and just a little west, toward the Cemetary.

Sssari slowly raised himself from the log he had been basking on, speaking with Artimer before hand, he had an idea of where to go, and who to seek out. Heading to his depot, he packed food, giving a look to the man next to him, Julius, he turned his head meekly, rather then draw anymore attention. The lizard buckled on a pair of leather grieves, completing the leather cuirass. He flexed his bare clawed feet and drew his leather bag over his shoulder, giving one last look to the crowd at the workshops. With a wave he left Troll's Bane, trotting out the east gate, he turned his direction to Goldburg. As he walked, thoughts entered his mind to why he was here, to save Nara...what else? He shook his head violently, trying to clear any doubt from his mind, clear his thoughts. All he wanted to do is find Chester, and go from there. But even then he couldn't get Misha's request out of his mind. He couldn't fight that damn orc. Sssari deeply wanted to, knew if given the chance, he'd gut the orc, make him suffer. These thoughts troubled Sssari, but he knew they only fueled his determination for revenge and desire for solace with Oliver's memory. For a scarce moment, he cared not what others thought of him...

Sssari neared Goldburg, holding his breath, he peered out at the area. Catching sight of the blood trail he swallowed hard, after composing himself and making sure Chester was no where to be found, he decided to follow the greasily trail, making notice of the fresh tracks in the mud, he was certain Chester must be near, he sneaked along the path...

He'd honor those dead soon enough.

Walking through the Swamp, Draken and Chester follow the trail by the light of a flickering Torch. The fog lingered long enough to obscure the path, but with Draken's help, they found their way to the southern edge.

Upon the fields before the Troll Woods, lay dead, charred and twisted Troll Bodies, glistening a deep red in the pale Moonlight.

"What happened here?" Chester asked.

Sssari continues to track the blood trail, his head low, keeping his eyes on the footprints almost entirety. Sssari has became single minded, not stopping, or even thinking as he made his way through the mud. Coming to the clearing with the troll corpses, Sssari kneels behind some of the ferns from the retreating swamp. Upon catching view of the two figures, their backs turned, he tries to identify the men.

Sssari freezes, bringing himself even lower, crouching in the mud, he calls out futilely, "Oh....eeet no one, err no, eet just someone picking herbs...yes dats eet.." He laughs nervously, shaking slightly.

Sssari slowly raises up and walks into the clearning, waving sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head with his other hand, "Hullo...err...you two..." He laughs again, far to embarrassed to focus or to make any real tactical appraisal of the situation. He looks to Chester, wiping his feet off in the grass as he walks towards him, he gives a bit of a salute, "Me thought...err..you could use some help...yes?" Sssari's good nature'd attitude dissipates as fast as it appeared, lowering his snout, he takes a quick look left and right, waiting for Chester's reaction to his...."spying"

Through half closed lids, Chester awakes at the exchange between Draken and Sssari.

"Ah, yes...welcome" Chester says through a yawn.

"Indeed, we are on the trail of one of our friends. Olive was killed and then dragged this way toward the cemetary. I have a witness that places the Orc Rugh'toh' at the scene, however..."

Chester points at the blasted, charred bodies...

" I dunnae think an Orc did this! I think we have some magicks at work here."

Sssari nods slightly, still looking around...

Chester says, "Have a seat, talk a while. Draken can fill ye in on details. We will continue our search in the morning."

Chester Yawns and tries to lean back against the log, and closes his eyes, ever so slightly.

Sssari sits on the grass with his legs out in front of him, sighing greatly and wiping his brow out of habit. Sssari stares at the dwarf for a moment, before replying slowly, "Me....know the details.....and let me tell you, Sssari is getting Nara from dis orc....you can kill him, me no care....but me want to see him die." He shoots a glance at Draken, but keeps his mouth shut, rolling his eyes he turns to Chester once more, giving him a small nod, but still seemingly uncomfortable, there must be a lot on his mind, given as he kept his words short and to the point. Sssari moves his hands over the two daggers at his hilt, tracing the letters on each of them..."OF". Sssari takes another gasp of air and turns to the dead trolls, his glaze is uneasy at best as he looks on...

The three sit by the fire, one resting, the other two looking out for intruders, when suddenly, the whoosh of wings falls from the sky to Chester's lap. A Dove arrives carrying a message for him.

A Little startled, Chester jumps awake, grabbing his axe, then sees the Dove. Curious, he unties the note from it's leg. It is a rolled Parchment sealed with a wax imprint of the Kingdom of Silverbrand.

Chester breaks the seal, and rolls the parchment just enough for him to read alone by the dim light of the fire.

Chester squints as he reads silently. Halfway though the letter, Chester begins to mumble words such as....."our plan"...."take the Oath"...."bring no trouble"...."earn our trust"....."Cease"...."Orc".....

Toward the end, Chester closes both the Parchment and his eyes, and stumbles to the ground. He clutches the parchment in one hand and rubs the bridge of his nose with the next.

Draken and Sssari watch this with great curiousity, but don't say anything for a few minutes. Then one of them asks, "What's wrong?"

Chester hesitates, thinking, and then sighs.

"It seems that I must return to Goldburg to make preparations for entry into Silverbrand." Chester explains, "My Brother and Sister dwarves must take priority over my own wish for vengeance."

Chester pauses, and sseems a little sad.

"I will be occupied for a while, and will not be able to continue this trail. I wish to ask the two of you to continue. Find "Nara Feldarp", the baby, and return her to safety in Trollsbane. Give her to Artimer Fault, he will know what to do with her. I'll pay ye a Goldcoin each for this. Do what ye like to it's captor, but we should not waste time on corpses anymore. The Baby is important for now. I wish you both a fair journey and safety in your quest."

With that, Chester slowly rises, look fondly toward the cemetary in the south, sighs, then proceeds back to Goldburg, toward his 'duty'.

((OOC note: PO 'Olive' was denied actual "Quest" status for this, so dunno where this will lead. However, please continue to find the "Baby" held by PO Rugh'Toh. It should be fun because he is a good RP'er. For RP reasons, Chester can't be involved anymore.))

Sssari sits on the grass for a moment, he breaths out, watching as Chester walks away, he begins to feel a pit growing in his stomach, as if some inner dread was forming. Standing back on his feet again and brushing himself off, he gives Draken a weak nod, finding his company insufferable at best. Staring at Chester disappearing into the night, he mutters as he begins to stubble across the grass, his eyes on the blood trail, and forgetting about the dead trolls, "Ya...me not giving Nara to Artimer...He have no idea....Sssari was Oliver's friend." He chuckles dryly "Nara Feldarp.....heh....no she Nara Fox!" He breaths heavily for a moment, his tail swinging back and forth with his tortured walk. "Come on Draken!" Sssari licks his fangs slowly, his path was fixed, he'd reach the end, somehow, but he'd live to see Misha again, he promised himself that....her that...

Sssari shakes his head as he walks on, not hearing Draken's footsteps behind him, he doesnt know to feel relived, or fearful. He treks south, and comes to the cemetery. Assuming a low crouch, he makes his way around the edge of it, looking for any sighs of life to be had among the dead laying just a few feet under them.

The graveyard has been obvously disturbed. Heavy mule tracks lead to teh ladder down and the carcass of the mule is roting in a pile filling the air with flies, it has been dead a few days but the skeletons seem to have scared away natural scavengers.

there is a trail of blood that follows down the ladder. all of the torches nearby have been swiped leaving the area rather poorly lit. three sets of bloody footprints escort a drag mark down into the darkness.

~during the new morning hours, fresh dew sparkles upon the Grass and weeds which partly cover the tombstones. The trail of Blood glistens now, all the way from the door of the Caretaker's house, to a ladder into a freshly dug Grave. The earth near here is piled high, mixed with the remains of some poor mortal, his bones sticking out from the dirt like a call for help.~

The caretaker is noticeably absent from his usual place by the graves. As you look toward the ladder closer, you see it goes deeper into the earth than a mere six feet! It goes much deeper.

The air blows up from this shaft like a cool breeze carressing your skin, enticing you to come closer, closer into the cool, deep darkness.

A Faint Chanting can be heard,
"Zi Kia Kanpa"
"Zi Anna Kampa"
"Zi Dingir Kia Kanpa"
Zi Dingir Anna Kanpa"

Then a brusque, deep voice conjures.....
"Hear me o thou Cherga!"
"Come to me by the powers of the word Marutukku!"
"Answer my Prayer!"
"Zi Kia Kanpa!"
Zi Anna Kanpa!"

Then several voices begin the chant again......

((IG player quest will be on Saturday 8pm GMT, at the cemetary. Keep RP on forum until then. Be there or lose Olive's soul forever!))

Sssari takes one frighten glace at Draken, before inching closer to the grave. Nibbling on his claw, he peaks over into the abyss, his eyes widen, the chants growing louder and more complex.

For a long time he sat down in the caves and stared into the fire. His own flickering shadow on the stone wall behind him seemed to reflect what was going on in his mind.

"...when she beh coming back... she nub whub like whub meh hab done..."

Rugh rubbed his chin a bit and licked his tusks.

"Nub... she rathurrr whub leabe da clans....coping wit magjiks and oomies again..."

He snorted by his last words, which made the flames crackle for a short moment, before the flames seemed to stand still and casted a sharp and clear shadow of Rugh'toh on the walls.

The Chief's shadow slowly stood up and grabbed for a sword nearby. With slow, but determined steps he made his way out of the cave. He passed one of his sisters who had a small crying bundle in her hands. He gave a faint smile, before he continued his way, finally welcomed by the dark night. The winds blew down from the Dark Crest into his face. He breathed the fresh air and then walked to the south.

"..meh whub take yoo... oomie orc.. honorable bury shall given turr yoo... fer her... fer Rukka..."

A shadow scurried through the silver desert of Kumda.
A dark green shape sneaked through the Eastern Woods without making any noise as being part of the woods.
At the edge of the woods the dark figure stopped in the shadows of a conifer. Greenish eyes stared to the castle gate of the dwarfen refuge and examined the whole place carefully.

The orc narrowed his eyes as he sees the blood trail leading towards the south. He grunted to himself and then dived back into darkness of the woods, following the blood trail. The slowly wiping branche of the conifer was the only sign that someone has been here.

Like small black lakes the blood trail lead to the south.

Rugh did not look at the lakes but followed Olive by smelling her blood.

Finally, he came closer to the graveyard.

"Der yoo beh... whoo brought yoo here... hurr.. when meh beh rrready with hims, he beh at right place alreaby...."

Rugh stepped closer to the hole in the ground, where the wind touched his skin.
