Safe Trade!

Post by Veretta Hayes »

I used to play another game like Illarion, Tibia, and they only recently added in a Safe trade system, scince there were so many theives about  . I think it would be a really good idea to put in before it gets too out of hand like it did on Tibia :(.

1) tibia is not like illarion.
2) the word is spelled "thieves" (sg. thief)
3) a save-trade-system (like in UO; i don't know the one in tibia but i suppose that it is similar to the UO-solution) as advantages AND disadvantages: on the one hand, you can trade savely, on the other hand, you don't have to take care and you lose realism.

Thieves

Post by Quain »

Ok, I think safe trade is good, but that they should only ever make it when they are also making a system allowing thieves to try and steal from people. Like a thief walks up to somebody and attempts to steal some item from their bag (possibly random) and they either succeed, and the other person hears nothing, they fail and the other person gets a message saying "You feel someone attempt to reach into your bag/box/container", or a critical fail, in which the message would say "You feel *Thief name here* attempting to reach into your container". Anyways, what I am saying mostly is, if your going to put in safe trade, try and make a thieving skill come not too long after it. (Oh, and no, I personally don't plan on being a thief, but I think they should have a fair chance to practice their trade)

(Corrected, for the good of Martin's everywhere)

well, i dont th ink tghat illarion needs the safe trade system. i have tried tibia, and the system is worthless. illarion has a good, honest comunity, but if we do have a trade thingy, i think that akkara has a good system. something similar to that would do, a seperate screen, both players have to accept by clicking a butten, and you can see what you are getting.

I don't really like the idea of having a special window to help people trade. Sure it makes it much more likely for you to have your things stolen but we might as well have a window then that says "Would you like to be hurt by someone #27121?" I myself think there needs to be a possibilty for a thief or thieves to get at your stuff. Thieves being the plural form of thief...

I tend to agree. When I first started playing Illarion, I thought a safe trade window would be nice, but after playing it a while and getting into the atmosphere of the RP, I think it's good just the way it is.

Although I've often though it might be nice to notice who actually picks something up, but then again, that would prevent all thieves.

Two of my most exciting times on Illarion have been chasing theives around until they dropped something of mine they had stolen during a trade.

I am proud to say they neither of them logged off, that shows real courage, and gives to the heart of Illarion.

Both times I got the items back.

the thing with loging out is worth a discussion (at least i think so). in tibia, they implemented the following: when you were attacked or attacked someone yourself, you can't log out for about 5 minutes (or something, maybe 2 minutes will be enough). if you log out, your character stands in the game for this period of time, meaning that you can't defend yourself.

this *might* cause problems due to lag or something but it also prevents people from logging out to escape others. some people won't do this anyway, but others do.

i know, that this is OT in this thread, however it could be a "fair" substitution for a save-trade-dialog. (if you want to trade savely, you have to take some precautions)

I don't know about that system they have in tibia. It is nice making sure people can't log out to escape fights, but it can be incredibly annoying. Example: Someone doesn't want another person to leave so they attack them but keep a distance. I'm in favor of leaving it out myself. Not that many people flee.

if there was one solution for a problem in a game that doesn't create new ones... ;)
i know that. nature wasn't implemented without bugs, so why should illarion be flawless? *g*

well, the only time i log off during a battle or something is when there ai a PKer sniping or i am in a 'back up' battle(as in back up if u about to die). usualy the 'back up' battles are gambiling for me, as in i get beer if i win, and pay gold if i loose. i think that thestun spell should last longer though. by the time you cast it then get the runes for the next cast(less than 3 seconds) the other person is free!. should be at least 5seconds.
