Mule gone

I just hired a mule with my hard-earned money, after which I had to do something IRL. So I made sure the mule was following me, then I closed the game. A bit later I logged in and out without doing anything (I think this had something to do with the server being offline) and when I later logged in again, my mule was gone. I did not tell him to stay still, he was still following me, so is it possible to steal mules that easily? I have also not received my money back. It happened just outside the place where you hire mules. Help or an explanation is appreciated (although I would rather just get my mule back...)

Nope, happened to me twice today too.

I think it's a technical problem:

I log off with Mule......I log in and Mule is 'gone'....but when I try to rent another, the handler says I already have one. If I leave and log off again, it resets and I can rent a mule again.

I think the 'Mule' is still there, just not next to you when you log back in, so it's a technical bug.
