In Game Post Office

Post by Elsi »

Using doves works well, but it would be fun to have some sort of in-game message center (post office or aviary, if we want to keep the 'doves' theme) going as well. One would go to the post office, for a few coppers write a letter and address it to another character. Then that character could go to the post office and collect all messages addressed to him or her. Recognition would work by the same mechanism that the depots use.

I would love to hear if there is any interest in this, and if it's a challenge that appeals to the coders. Not an urgent request, just a fun idea.

Problem with this is that people will still use an IM and a PM in order to communicate.

It'd be slightly useless, I'm sorry to say.

A magical radio (you write a message and the addressee gets it, maybe after a delay and only under certain circumstances) is feasable and might get implemented along with the bard magic system. However, storing letters in an ingame mailbox in the game is a problem for the current architecture of Illarion. It is possible, but the devs dislike using the necessary feature (file I/O) for justified reasons.

What about using the "Broadcast" feature?

Couldn't that be modified to be directed at only one person IG?

Someone could pay 50 coppers and send a 'dove' IG to a person.

That's the basic idea of what I called "magical radio" :).

This sounds great. Would eliminate many needs of meta-gaming.... :roll:

The post office idea sounds okay, but I like the radio idea better. Kinda reminds me of telepathy.

I bet there are some communities raising thier own doves.

Anyone cleansed the pigeonry of the Hamlet of Greenbriar lately?[/i]

Though i`d like to see birdlike animals IG whilst the next two RL years,
i think they`ll be implied a bit later;

List of importance:

-Chicken (neutral food related NPC);
-Kumdahn Desert Raptor (mostly agressive NPC; nice addition to cow system);
-dove and IG pigeonry (dove as NPC);

May there should someone selling doves,

It should be possible to add a with a feder and ink written paper to it

and maybe to use some wheat with the dove as fuel ...

after some time the dove should reach the other one and
the other one could add an answer to the dove ...

after a long time the dove should become lost or something
(maybe the dead ones could find by others ...)
