The rustle of leaves

Nothing but cool ashes remained of the fire, as the first rays of sunlight hit the treetops. The man was sitting next to the remains of the fire, just as he had been there the whole night. He had stayed there on the excuse of guarding the fire and her sleep, though he was well aware that neither would have been necessary. It was her forest and in there she more safe in her sleep, than he ever was while awake. As strange as it was for him to admit it, he just needed to excuse himself his need and wish to stay a little longer with her. He glanced at the woman who was still sleeping.. not too far away.

She had showed him her forest. She had made him to enjoy the feeling of talking to someone for the first time in a long while, though.. he still was not a man of many words. Nevertheless, now it would be time for him to go into his own forest. Back to his moss-covered slopes, his singing birds, his rocks, clearings, fresh creeks and mighty trees. He looked down at the ash and took a branch from the ground. He hesitated for a moment, before pressing the edge of the branch on the soft ash. With a few short strokes he drew "Good morning ~ Saidor" on the ashes, and placed a small cloth package.. containing some dry meat and fruits on the ground next to the writing. He wasn't worried that the wind would wipe the writing away before she would wake up.. on the contrary, he was nervous of the thought that it wouldn't. Slowly he climbed back on his feet and lifted the bag on his shoulders. He made one final glance at the sleeping woman, before walking away as carefully as he could.. hoping not to wake the her.

As he walked further and further away from the fireplace with only the quiet rustle of leaves acompanying his steps, an strange feeling overcame him. It seemed like the treetops behind were waving at him, as they gently swayed from side to side in the wind. Maybe her forest said goodbye to him in the only way it could. With these thoughts on his mind, Saidor tugged the brim of his hood to cover his face as the edge of the forest was coming closer and closer..

He hoped, that he could hear the quiet sound of her footsteps again soon.

The hazel eyes looked calmly at the mans face who was sleeping right next to her on the cold ground of the forest. The pale light of the moon shone at his sleeping face and gave her the possibility to study it, closely. She looked over his thin chin which were covered by his messy goatee, his straight nose pointed upwards and was breathing in the cold, fresh air whilst his lips and eyes were closed. When doing so she had to wonder why he mostly hooded the view of his face, cause his soft facial features were nice to look at. Their fingers were still wrapped around each other and held each other for the long, calm night. Their bodies, covered by his large cape, lay quite close to each other but not that close to warm each other. He was the first man after all the years of hiding who had the permission to sleep right next to her and the feeling to lie on the ground with a more or less strange person let her feel a bit uncomfortable.

They have met quite often, mostly in the town when they both tried to do some businesses. She found it rather amusing how he always glanced to the sides, nervously and so she aksed herself if he maybe has something to hide?
Of course she knew that he liked the familar surroundings like his woods with its familar scent more than being in town..but his relaxed attitude when being in the woods changed so much into nervousness when he was in town that she really thought that something must be wrong with him.
But since he isn't a man of many words, she rather avoided it to ask.

Words..'his' spoken words yesterday were still present in her mind when she kept observing the sleeping man. She still didn't knew if she could trust him, but she knew that she could deal with him and so she decided to allow him to be more close to her in the future. And while she was thinking about the next days in which he would be near her, she had to admit that she liked the thought because his mysterious presence made her curious right from the first time they've met. But the more she was smiling about her thoughts, the more she had to narrow the eyes when she looked at him, doubtfully. She licked over the dry lips and tilted the head when whispering with a smooth and quiet voice "You're not a person who likes to play games, are you?"
She felt silent after her whispered words, just the corners of her mouth were raised to a faint smile and she stared at him with the hazel eyes filled with doubt...until the sleep overcame her in the wee hours of the morning.
