I am talking about the so called electoral speeches of the candidates that are running for governor.
"I have a dream" "I am the logical choice" "I have the will to make things happen"
As it seems, all of the candidates are quite self-centered in their campaigns.
I do fear that none of them has the will to truly better things for the people but rather shape Trollsbane the way they want it to be.
They talk of great plans, great programs, things the people will benefit of once they are voted into office.
I ask myself, is it necessary to feed the people with these glorious visions?
Wouldn't it have been enough to actually get to know the citizens, talk and listen to them to hear what they want instead of wasting both paper and precious ink for all that has been written upon this board?
A long time ago, some of you might remember, Trollsbane was ruled by a council of three. I do not recall all details, but I remember that the grey rose was involved in this.
That was no time of big plans, no time of big words, instead it was all about the people's opinion upon the matters pressing at that time!
Every citizen could voice his opinion at one of the regular citizen meetings in the tavern of Trollsbane, and quite a lot of the citizens followed this call, because they felt that THEY were able to move something rather than having to pray to the goodwill of a governor or having to befriend him first before he even starts listening (I am not even talking about considering) ones words.
Not ONE of the candidates has suggested the reestablishment of such a forum of oppinions for the citizens to visit and actually take part in the governing of the town.
ALL the candidates seem to forget the true meaning of the position of the governor: It is NOT the governor who is in charge of all actions but he is the one FULFILLING the will of the people, it is his duty to make the things the citizens decide due to mayority happen and oversee THEIR decisions being executed the right way.
I wish to remind all of you of a great man, long forgotten in the histories of this island and the history of Trollsbane. I talk of noone less than Pendar Fayed, Captain of the Townguard and later on the first to be governor of Trollsbane I have witnessed while living upon this island.
He had a grave insight into what was expected from a man ascending into an important position such as Guard Captain or Governor.
It is all about the people and what they want.
If you skim through the lost pages of the Townwall of Trollsbane you will find that he signed all of his announcements with three little words that have a tremendous meaning if you ponder about them for a while:
Code: Select all
Yours in service,
Pendar Fayed
I do not want to say that the candidates are unable to lead a town such as Trollsbane, I just want to point out that all of them lack a certain understanding of what is expected of a governor and approach the whole matter from a wrong point of view.
A governor is an executive organ to make the people's will happen, not a benevolent dictator who does what he thinks is right for the people.
I hope that some will consider this words.
