I am... I will... THE choice... I have

Post by Faladron »

The litter that has clattered this board gives an old person like me a serious headache.

I am talking about the so called electoral speeches of the candidates that are running for governor.

"I have a dream" "I am the logical choice" "I have the will to make things happen"

As it seems, all of the candidates are quite self-centered in their campaigns.
I do fear that none of them has the will to truly better things for the people but rather shape Trollsbane the way they want it to be.

They talk of great plans, great programs, things the people will benefit of once they are voted into office.

I ask myself, is it necessary to feed the people with these glorious visions?
Wouldn't it have been enough to actually get to know the citizens, talk and listen to them to hear what they want instead of wasting both paper and precious ink for all that has been written upon this board?

A long time ago, some of you might remember, Trollsbane was ruled by a council of three. I do not recall all details, but I remember that the grey rose was involved in this.

That was no time of big plans, no time of big words, instead it was all about the people's opinion upon the matters pressing at that time!

Every citizen could voice his opinion at one of the regular citizen meetings in the tavern of Trollsbane, and quite a lot of the citizens followed this call, because they felt that THEY were able to move something rather than having to pray to the goodwill of a governor or having to befriend him first before he even starts listening (I am not even talking about considering) ones words.

Not ONE of the candidates has suggested the reestablishment of such a forum of oppinions for the citizens to visit and actually take part in the governing of the town.

ALL the candidates seem to forget the true meaning of the position of the governor: It is NOT the governor who is in charge of all actions but he is the one FULFILLING the will of the people, it is his duty to make the things the citizens decide due to mayority happen and oversee THEIR decisions being executed the right way.

I wish to remind all of you of a great man, long forgotten in the histories of this island and the history of Trollsbane. I talk of noone less than Pendar Fayed, Captain of the Townguard and later on the first to be governor of Trollsbane I have witnessed while living upon this island.

He had a grave insight into what was expected from a man ascending into an important position such as Guard Captain or Governor.
It is all about the people and what they want.

If you skim through the lost pages of the Townwall of Trollsbane you will find that he signed all of his announcements with three little words that have a tremendous meaning if you ponder about them for a while:

Code: Select all

Yours in service,
Pendar Fayed
Yours in service... elected by the people for the people, there to execute the will of the people. He did not execute plans and programs he thought would be right for the people, he actually listened to them and their needs and helped to make their plans happen.

I do not want to say that the candidates are unable to lead a town such as Trollsbane, I just want to point out that all of them lack a certain understanding of what is expected of a governor and approach the whole matter from a wrong point of view.

A governor is an executive organ to make the people's will happen, not a benevolent dictator who does what he thinks is right for the people.

I hope that some will consider this words.

I am glad to see (not really) that you took the time to waste ink and parchment to write the note. I have decided to waste my time to reply for you, in order to hopefully correct some of your most obvious mistakes. When would I not take the time to teach those who need some help in understanding how the world really works and how things really are? Let us call this my good deed of the day:

Governor is the leader, not your buddy. He is not someone who should be subject to every ridiculous whim of the population. He should be able to look into the future and do the necessary changes. If the governor always listened to the population, nothing would ever get done, not good or bad, because most people naturally reject change (even if it was for their own good). While the individual concerns of a citizen are important, a governor must be someone with the ability to also see the forest from the trees. The big picture. Have we not had enough of stagnation which he offers? I don't know how much sibanac you have had to smoke to get so high with those laughable democracy ideas, but considering that I've smoked my own fair share of the stuff, we are probably talking about enormous heaps.

Democracy is weak, unstable and prone to corruption. A strong, fair and benevolent Governor is what this town needs. Not a committee of three to investigate and waste more parchment, but someone who doesn't mind on stepping on a few collective toes when he makes the town a better place for its citizens. Indeed, its citizens. Not random outsiders like yourself. I wonder what your real motivations are?

I would not be surprised if you are either trying to push the town into foreign arms again (wonder, who those committee members would be? You, King Thorward and Lennier?).. or to keep the town weak and unstable eternally or if you are just simpleminded, populist fool.

Either way, you are exactly that: A non-citizen. A nobody.

Luckily there is a candidate like me, who is willing to take the concerns of real citizens properly into account and give the rants of nobodies like you the ridicule which you deserve. It is me who wishes to make citizens equal with eachother and superior to others (like you) under the law. It is me who wishes to punish non-contributing troublemakers like you more harshly than the good citizens of the town. It is me who actually thinks about the town and its citizens, and not some some ridiculous theories which have (and will) only cause further suffering for the people of this town.

I hope that the town finally votes me into office, a man who is concerned of making Trolls Bane the jewel of Gobiath which it should be.

So, Faledrin or whoever you were.. enjoy your sibanac and please stick to just smoking that in the future.

Yours truly,
Edward Cromwell
The best, most magnificent, logical and the best (just to make it sure for the slow) governor candidate ever (ever).
A Visionary without equal
The holder of the Beermug
Long time citizen of the town

I am Dain Laiden. I will use THE choice I have to vote for Edward Cromwell. I believe I am trying to get a better man than Pendar Fayed for governor(or third of a governor as you would like it Faladron).

I think your view of reality and the past (of which you dont even recall most details) is a bit warped.
