An Unexpected Arrival

Post by Hybryd »

He flipped through the pages of the book. His pale fingers caressing the pages, his cracked lips spewing forth the words etched upon the page.
  • I yherebyus mummonus htereum, a reagthth plaeug.
Noe unom ilwl vile. Dan I ilwl leruium teh orldwum.
He grinned. A great power caressed his fingertips afterwards.
The room fell silent. He could only hear his heartbeating now.

Thump. Thump. Thump.
It seemed as if it would beat out of his chest. As he clutched his chest,
A dark presence gathered within him. He no longer had control over himself.
He began to shake, and he fell upon the cold, wooden floor.
He began to convulse, and his eyes rolled back into his head.

Just as soon as it began, it was over. He stood to his feet and nodded, seemingly to himself.
"I will do it then."
"Yes, yes I will."

It seemed as if he was sharing his body with another,
He had thoughts, dreams, and even memories that weren't his.
But he knew what he had to do.

He walked back over to the table and picked up the book; placing it neatly in his bag.
He exited the small hovel he'd called home, and made his way down to the docks.
He'd already prepared a small vessel that could be manned by him alone. And that's what he used.
~~

Many days passed, and he had thought himself on the brink of insanity.
The water seemed to stretch for miles, but then, he saw it.
The blip of land in the distance, his voyage had come to an end finally.

I'm.. We're here now."
Yes, indeed we are." He seemed to say to himself.

After many hours he reached the shore and stepped foot upon the land.
He wandered about for what seemed an eternity before finding a small wooden pole which read:
  • East - Varshikar
    West - Trollsbane
He continued his walk Westward. Finally coming upon a town. Trollsbane.

He stood in the gates of Trollsbane and looked around.
He hadn't seen anyone when he'd made his trek here, nor had he seen any near the gates.

He stood almost six feet tall. Dark black hair flowed down to his shoulders and his face, though pale, sported a thin black moustache and goatee.
His eyes are a soft brown, almost light green.
A piercing sat in his eyebrow, and three more in his left ear.

He wears a white shirt beneath a lengthy black coat, which seem to suit him nicely.
His trousers are the same dark colour, and seem a bit baggy near the bottom.
On his hands are a pair of finely made white gloves, and on his feet a pair of white boots.

Over his shoulder hangs a small bag, obviously carrying something due to a bulge in its side.

"Hmm.. No-one is here?"
"It doesn't look like it..." He seemed to reply to himself.

With a slight shrug of his shoulders he entered into the town.
He came upon a fork, but continued forward to a building. A large one.
He read the sign infront of it,
  • Fluffy Sheep Tavern - Property of Silverbrand
And he entered into it.
"Surely there's someone in HERE of all places."
"Indeed...

Na-Chaya strolls unhurried through Trolls Bane.
The people staring at her when she passes and indeed she looks stunning in her black velvet dress with the silver applications. Her blue-violet eyes, somewhat cold and unusual, her slightly curled black hair reflecting the late evening sun.

Arriving the tavern she opens with an elegant movement the door, stops, because a man stand directly in front of her. She tap with her finger softly on his shoulder and speaks with a smooth voice:

May I pass Sir ?

The tavern again. It almost seemed as if she were frequenting this place too much these past few days. Ever since she had returned from Tol Vanima, Ayla had kept herself pretty much hidden away from everyone. Anti-social in the least. Why? She really didn't know. It simply wasn't like her at all. But it seemed that the tavern, of all the ironic places, was the best place for now. At this time, it was fairly empty so she had it to herself apart from the ever-present dwarf bustling about, whistling a rugged tune as he cleaned a mug here and wiped the bar there.

The uncharacteristic emptiness of the tavern had suited Ayla just fine. For now, she was curled up in a chair close to the fire, knees tucked up and hands spread before her. A leather-bound book written in a strange elven dialect was open within her palms and her bright green eyes slowly traced over the strange lettering, occasionally reflecting the low-burning fire as her gaze shifted around restlessly. The book was a project. It, so far, had told her nothing of what she wanted to know and she knew very well that studying this complex dialect different from her own would cause yet another weird headache a few hours later. But for now, she was fine.

Everything was well enough until she heard footsteps outside the deserted tavern, which announced the end of her solitary time alone. As the sound of the opening door grasped the elfess' attention, she slowly tore her gaze from the book to roam over the figure entering the tavern. Blinking slowly, she let her eyes run over the apparent stranger, one curious eyebrow arching. Who he was, she had no idea. Just another wanderer that had sadly found themselves stuck on this Gods-forsaken island apparently. With a short, quaint smile, the elfess soon let her attention return to the heavy book, one hand sliding away from beneath it to grasp a familiar amulet, sighing quietly as she tries to find her place within the book. For once, she did not feel like being the curious elfess she always had a tendency of being. For once, she didn't feel like asking every stranger his or her reason for being on this island and such. Perhaps she had other things to focus on, or perhaps something of the man's appearance offset her natural curiosity. Whatever it was, she didn't bother.

For now paying no attention to the man, nor to the woman that approached soon after, the elfess remained silent. All she would do for now is sit back and relax.

He turned around slowly and tilted his head at the woman.
With a small nod he steps to the side and extends his arm out towards the tavern.

Excuse me. You may pass.."
Yes, yes you may." He seemed to repeat once more.

His eyes traveled over her as she passed on into the tavern.
Their soft green seeming to hide something beneath them, something dark.
Yet he did not show it much, though one may think him a bit crazy for speaking to himself.

"This is the tavern? Seems dull." He seems to comment to himself.
"Yes it does.. Odd."

He passed on near the wall, near the other side of the counter and opened the depot slowly.
With sluggish movements he pulled the bag off his shoulder and placed it within the depot.
With one more sluggish movement he slowly, and carefully closed the lid; making almost no noise at all.

Afterwards he rounded the counter again and sat on the nearest barstool and called for the Dwarf.

"I'd like some beer. Get me your finest please."
"Indeed, we shall drink well..." He commented once more.

The Dwarf stared at him as if he were stupid a moment, then finally got to it.
In a few minutes he was drinking the cold brew placed before him.
He spun about in the stool and let his soft green eyes travel the tavern...

It was useless. The little light given off from the dying embers did not illuminate the words before her well anymore and she could already feel one of those strange nagging headaches in the back of her head along her neck. With a quiet, irritated sound, the elfess leans back, letting the heavy leather-bound book snap shut. For a long time, she stared at the strange elven encryption that she herself could no longer understand, blinking rapidly as the letters seemed to twist before her. Closing her eyes for a long moment, she listened to the woman ask her quiet question and then the man reply... Twice. He replied twice? Was she hearing things? With a frown, Ayla slowly slid the heavy book into the worn leather bag sitting on the carpet beside the armchair. Curiosity slowly found itself in the elfess, causing her to lean as far back in the chair as possible, legs unfurling from beneath her.

It was subtle, her movements. In a gradual manner, Ayla let her chin tilt down, moving just barely to her left shoulder to allow better hearing of what the man said. One distinctively pointed ear was turned toward him as her eyes remained closed. As she listened to the stranger's voice, she began taking note of something far more interesting than the twisting, confusing words of the book she had been reading. With each sentence he spoke, he replied as if he were another man. This perplexed Ayla noticeably.

With furrowed brows, the elfess listened for a short time longer before letting her curiosity get the best of her. Why did this man speak to himself so often? Every sentence seemed to follow with a self-pointed comment. As a faint yawn consumes her, Ayla pushes away from the comfortable chair, stretching with a quiet groan. Bending shortly after, the elfess takes the strap of her small bag and carefully slips between the chairs and makes her way along the bar, letting her green gaze flick once again over the man as she wanders past. Nearing the door, Ayla turns toward the cooking oven and walks quietly to her own depot, kneeling to flip it open with a deft hand and dropping the bag in.

Hesitation. The elfess hesitated for a brief second before standing again, a hand brushing over her emblem-embellished tunic before turning. She found herself before the man with his back turned now, standing next to the familiar dwarf. With a thin smile, she comments on his last echoed remark.

"If you want his finest, don't go for the beer."

She chuckles lightly at the grunt from the dwarf, who only gave her a scornful look before returning to his usual duties.

"The wine's better if you have a fine taste."

Quietly, she wanders back around the bar, eyes locking on the man as she studies him with a near critical eye. The thin, proud smile that slowly plastered itself on her face remains as she stops next to a stool near the man, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Only someone new to the lands of Bane or Gobiath in general would not know that. Either that is the case or you do not seek the finest after all."

She lets her casual talk stop there, looking around briefly before returning her steady attention to the man, one eyebrow vaguely cocked in a curious manner.

He looked at the elfess with a tilted head and grinned briefly.
His soft green eyes seemed to examine her.

"Oh I didn't know that.."
"The wine then.." He commented once more.

Well thank you miss.. We will have to take it into consideration."
"Indeed. Indeed we will."

He smiled now. His teeth seem unusually white, and his canines seem like knives within his mouth.
With a small spin he turns on the stool once more and looks to the Dwarf.

"Wine then.. Red."
"Yes, Red sounds good indeed.." He spoke once again.

The Dwarf nodded and he turned back to the elfess once more.

"I am Seras Darkmarch."
"Indeed. We are new to the isle."

"Who are you?"
This sentence made his voice sound almost a hiss, yet the words could still be distinguished.

The Dwarf tapped his shoulder and he took his red wine from him.
Eyes still locked upon her he takes a small sip and nods in delight.

The more she listened to this stranger talk, the more he seemed to solidify her gradual conclusion that he certainly was not any normal man. Of course, normal people were a true rarity on this island, but he seemed more abnormal than the rest. The elfess had met her load of strange beings, but this man was by far proving to be one of the more interesting. Simply put, he perplexed her.

She watched his gaze, jade stare meeting jade stare as she stood before him. All he would see before him was a vaguely shorter than average elven woman with similar green eyes to his, apart from perhaps that occasional mad look, and long, pale blond hair. She was clad in nothing special, loose trousers and a white shirt with an interesting emblem on it, that being a rising sun with a rampant horse. The only interesting factor to her appearance was the two scabbards at her hips and the intricate necklace resting at her throat.

Her smile remained thin as she heard him seemingly converse to himself. She paied little attention to his talk about wine and the color red. However, at his introduction, she noticed something.

"We are new to the isle."

We. A very brief look was tossed around again by the elfess, as if looking for more before she turns back to the stranger. Out of habit, the elfess stretched a slender hand out in greetings, though she slowly seemed to become more aware of the person, eyes following his every movement. Something deep within was telling her that there was simply something not right with this stranger. But, having always been horrid at jumping to conclusions, she forced herself to give him the benefit of the doubt. After hesitating at his voice and question, the elfess let her thin smile broaden shakily, though her voice was steady as ever.

"Call me Ayla To'lorn. A pleasure to meet you.. Seras."

Curiosity again sprang up. She had not wanted to nose about, but as seeing that no one other than the stranger and perhaps that woman still somewhere, there was no one else. And yet she could remember him saying 'we'.

"'We', you say. There are others with you? They did not wish to come to the tavern, hm?"

Slowly, the elfess tilts her head in a similar fashion, her eyes locking on his again as she asks in that casual voice.

He took her hand, nodded and shook it firmly.
He looked back into her eyes now.

"Err.. Yes, they're not here yet." He spoke in response to her question.
"But be here they will be. Heheh." He seemed to comment once more.

He fidgeted for a brief second, yet as soon as it started it had ceased.
He released her hand.

"We're pleased to meet you miss To'lorn."
"Indeed we are, such a pleasure." He added once more.

He lifted a goblet to his lips and sipped from the wine.
Yet another satisfied look crossed his face.

He looked to the other woman in the tavern as well, obviously doing something else.
He tilted his head and stared at her a moment too.
Then he looked back at the Elfess.

"There are not many Elves where I'm from.."
"Indeed.. we.. nevermind." He seemed to stop.

A faint darkness became obvious, if only for a brief moment within his eyes, then it was gone again.
Concealed in the fog of the soft green pools once more.

He was doing it again. The more the stranger spoke, the more aware she became. He kept refering to himself as 'we'. It was gradually becoming a little more than disturbing. As he took her hand, Ayla returned the firm shake with one of her own, having a stronger grasp than she may appear. Her even stare remained so, pinpointed to his own green gaze as she listened to his seemingly hesitant voice, soon echoed as she had come to expect. If there were others, they would be there soon, she took it.

As the man releases her hand, Ayla lets it drop to her side, absently resting on the plain hilt of one sword at her side. To tell the truth, she had no idea what to think of this person. Her wry smile dispersed gradually from her lips, a light, lopsided look on her face as she listened to the man and noticed his attention shift to the woman. She herself let her attention alter, tossing a brief glance to the dwarf who still bustled about, now rearranging what looked to be large bottles of cider, his whistled tune having died away.

As the man returns his attention to her, she does the same. Weight shifting to her right, Ayla returned her arms to her chest, crossing them in her usual, lazy manner. Not many elves. That didn't really surprise her.

What did was the sudden, very momentary change in his eyes as he interrupted himself. The eerie darkness she saw pass over his look sent an indescribable chill down her spine. It wasn't usual for Ayla to be affected by the appearance of another, but something in his look offset her drastically, sending her into an inexplicable discomfort. Though the look was ridden of remarkably quick, Ayla couldn't forget that brief, passing glint in his eyes.

He spoke to himself, refered to himself as 'we', and for a short moment she swore she saw a hint of.. Evil? Wrath? What was it she saw in his eyes? The elfess had already been alert by the man's strange antics, but now... She was quickly losing the interest in finding out about him as the moments passed. Trying her best to keep the casual air about herself, Ayla let the smile return.

"You'll.. find plenty of my kin here, I assure you that sir. A.. Anyway, your friends will be here, you say? Forgive me if I nose about in business not my own, but when might they arrive? I'd hate for new people to find an empty tavern."

Nerves. She had to watch her nerves. This man had discomforted her, which set off alarms she had not heard in a long time. He seemed innocent and kind enough, but the constant speaking as if he were two different people and that look. No, perhaps she was merely jumping to conclusions again. Surely...

Na-Chaya passed the man with her elegant moves, noticing the elves and gives a little almost haughty nod in her direction.

Then she eyes the man haunting. A cool tiny smile can be seen and she nods softly to herself incline her head and speaks in her smooth manner towards Borgate behind the counter:

Please give me a bottle of water dwarf.

After the dealing and replacement from coins and a bottle of water she moves soft and without any hesitate to a table. She pick a stool wherefrom she can see the man and the elves as well, listening the conversation between both. Simultaneously she opened the bottle, placing before her on the table. Her small hands reaching for the bag and pulling out a book bonded in leather with silver drawings on the cover and a glass, pouring the water then in.
With an nearly alluring gesture she strokes back a thick strand from her curly hair and open the book, seems she start to read.
Now it can be seen the unusual long silvery nail on her right hand.

With a nearly invisible smile she seems also to listen both, remaining silent at the moment.

"Oh.. We are already here."
"We were just waiting for the right time to arrive..." He added.

For a short moment his eyes shifted away from the elfess and back to the woman again, his soft green eyes scanning over her.
He looked back at her, an eerie, almost wry smile forming on his face.

"You'll meet them soon.."
"You'll all meet them soon." He added again, emphasizing the word 'all.'

He tilted his head and looked to the elfess,
His gaze locked upon hers. Yet he noticed.
Every fault, every hesitant breathe the elfess made, he seemed to know.
It rang through his ears clearly, as if he too had the hearing of an Elf.

He simply disregarded it at the moment. He knew he was different.
But he didn't care. He was here to do something, and he was going to do it.
He crossed his arms over his chest once more, letting his gaze break away and off in the direction of the other woman and back.

"What is this Isle called?"
"Gobaith.. it's the right one."

He nodded. Seeming to have answered his own question.

Na-Chaya taps with her silver-nail slow on the table, *Knock, Knock, Knock* give him a mysterious, unreadable glance.

She licks slow over her lips, raising the glass filled with water and takes a tiny sip.

ALL ?? What you mean with that statement, good Sir ? Seems a bit cloudy in my eyes .

She chuckles softly, shook her head after her words. Her blue-violet eyes gleaming rather amused, she seems to be luscious entertained.

He let his gaze travel back to the woman.
He nodded slowly.

"I mean everyone who wants to meet them.."
"Possibly others as well." He commented.

He nodded to himself once more.
With a raise of his goblet he took yet another sip of wine.

"Those who do not wish to see them will more than likely be the ones who get more than they wished for.."
"We can be very persuasive."

He grinned an eerie, wry grin.
His canines protruded out of his mouth, giving it a cheeky look.

Nice, nice this illusion. May I ask you, where do you come from and I dislike it really to speak with a innominate person.

She pauses, through her eyes rushing suddenly a silver lightning, barely perceivable, whilst her voice smooth, soft as ever respond his assertive statement.

So let me know your name before you give another cryptic answer.

Na-Chaya ignores just the nervous elvess, or maybe she draw his attention in her direction to help her out.
And again her silver-nail knocks slow on the table ...

"Where we come from is no concern of anyone's."
"If it were we would've said so, aye?" He adds.

He takes another drink from his goblet and finishes off the wine,
Setting it on the counter just behind him.

He locks his gaze back upon the woman a moment.
Then he replies,

"I am Seras Darkmarch."
"Who are you?" He seems to add in a rasping tone.

For a moment his gaze diverts to the Elfess once more,
but just for a moment. Then his gaze locks upon the woman once more.

The conversation had turned. She was of no importance to the words exchanged any longer. For some reason, it relieved her. Ayla had no reason to linger around anymore. She was confused, she was perplexed. It did no good for her to simply stand there. As the two converse, the elfess quietly steps back, arms now dangling at her sides. With a thin smile, she listens for just a short moment longer before raising a hand to her forehead with a wince. The headache.. It was coming on again and it was a bad one.

There was absolutely nothing more she could ask of this eerie man and to tell the truth, she wanted to know nothing more. He startled her in a way Ayla was purely not used to. With a brief smile to the two, Ayla tosses a quick look over her shoulder to the tavern door. Then, turning back to the two, she quietly interrupts the exchange.

"Forgive me for my rude interruption of the inquiry, but I do believe I have business at foot. Seras, welcome to Gobiath and may you have a pleasant time spent on the island. And Miss, I do not recall your name for now, forgive me.. Both of you, farewell for the eve."

Her voice held a very vague, underlying tone of falsity in it as she raises a hand in farewell and turns on her heels. Without a second thought, without so much as a minute hesitation, the elfess strides silently to the door. She wanted away from this man that was beginning to unnerve her. With another grimace as pain hits her, Ayla reaches out with a fumbling hand to the door's handle, shoving it open. Quickly stepping out, the elfess slams the door behind her and walks off. No more of this dealing for her at all. Perhaps she could speak to... Maybe. Someone would answer it for her.

With a weary sigh, the elfess wanders around the tavern and up the path between it and the library, heading to the workshop. No more for her. For now, she'd leave it be.

Seras Darkmarch.. The man that talks as if he were two people, the one with an evil glint and a strange voice.. She'd have to remember that. Conclusions were being drawn, and right now they weren't the most cheerful in the least.

Na-Chaya gives him an entrancing smile, her eyes fixed in his face. With both hands she buried deep in her black hair and stroke it back from her face as the elvess interrupted the conversation

"Forgive me for my rude interruption of the inquiry, but I do believe I have business at foot. Seras, welcome to Gobiath and may you have a pleasant time spent on the island. And Miss, I do not recall your name for now, forgive me.. Both of you, farewell for the eve."

Na-Chaya lifts a brow briefly, somewhat of a smirk crossing her lips as she watching the leaving of this woman. She tilt her head, after the door was slammed, back to Seras Darkmarch.

The smile appears again as she respond his question with a short and unemotional sentence

I'm Na-Chaya and the welcome is already said from the leaving woman.

He watched her leave, but only for a moment.
His gaze was back upon Na-Chaya.

"Pleasure miss Na-Chaya."
"Indeed. We're glad to have met you." He commented.

He simply nodded to her welcome.
"Indeed, it has already been said once already."
"I must've startled her. It's most common, we tend to have that effect on people."

With a small flick of his wrist the Dwarf hustled over.
He simply pointed to the empty goblet and the Dwarf nodded, obviously knowing.
Seras nodded to him with a grin.

"Are all the people of this isle so.. easily spooked?"
"Because it seems to us, they are." and he nodded.

Na-Chaya waves with her small hand and points to the stool in front of her, a clear unequivocal invitation to sit here.

The people here ? Difficult to say. A lot of fools around, at most times I avoid to stay in this town.
Another case in point is you are a bit strange, indeed. And I fear all what looks weird, strange and different falling under the words * Mistrust and Evilness *. Foolish for my taste. Between earth and heaven more things as you can see.

A tall elf, firmly dressed in new-looking red robes and carrying a wand around with him enters straight through the other tavern door.
His silvergrey-ish eyes seem to scan the room - or the persons around - quickly before waving towards Borgate, then taking off the robes (wearing simple dark grey or black shirt and pants under those), he sits at a table in the corner of the room. The robes and a pouch are placed on a chair while the staff rests on the wall right next to him within quick reach. He releases a short sigh, then takes a parchment out of the bag and starts to read, one eyebrow only slightly raised. His facial expression though seems to stay neutral of any display of emotions all the time.
Then, the elf tosses his old, almost ragged looking wizard hat - which once may have been red - onto the top of the chair while Borgate reaches the table, wordlessly shoving a big beer across it towards the elf, who nods a "thank you" towards him. He reaches for the beer, takes a good sip - obviously enjoying it - but his eyes remain fixed upon the parchment.

He slowly stands from the stool and approaches the chair.
With a sluggish move he pulls the chair out and seats himself.

Shortly after he looks to the door and watches the Elf enter.
He grins wryly once more, watching him seat himself and toss his hat.
He slowly turned back to Na-Chaya, the look still upon his face.

"Why thank you for your hospitality miss Na-Chaya."
"Indeed. 'Tis certainly welcome." He adds again.

Seras slowly lifts the goblet to his lips and takes a lengthy drink.

"The other Elfess was right. The wine is indeed very good."
"I think we will come here more often." and he nods.

With a couple of short glances over his shoulder at the newcoming Elf,
He finally locks his gaze back upon her.

Na-Chaya narrowed her eyes a brief moment as she spotted the newcomer.
With an curious glance she watched his movement, lose the interest and shift her eyes back to Seras, meeting his eyes.

Glad to hear you enjoy the wine and its a pleasure for me to bear company Mr. Darkmarch.

With a charming gesture she's closing the book before her. Her long nail draws over the silver applications from the cover and it seems a tiny sparkling surrounding the book immediately. Or is it only her long silver nail which make a illusion of sparkling ?
