Prizes for potions - we must find a standard price.
Druids don't have good business when other ones, who have another job they earn money with, boost the market with extremely cheap potions.
Since a flask is worth two gold, the MINIMUM price for a potion must be three gold.
Some potions have rare stuff in them, for example every potion with the red hat in it, (mana and feeding potions), even more rare is the donf blade (wind potion), and some potions have stuff in them from far away - like the desert sky capsule and the rarer berries.
So we need standard prizes for the potions. I would suggest the following :
live potion : 4 gold
beer (poison): 3 gold
Mana potion : 8 Gold (average rare stuff in it)
feeding potion : 8 Gold (average rare stuff in it)
Wind potion : 15 Gold (rare and far away stuff in it)
strong healing potion : 15 Gold (rare far away stuff in it)
It should be forbidden to sell with lower prices. What do you think ?

NO! NOT AT ALL!
I sell the potions how I want to sell them!
And I hope the others will do the same!

The idea is without doubt good, but it will be hard to establish these prices. We once tried that in tibia and it didn't work. Of course things are different here but still not easy.
As you see there are even druids who are against this standardisation although it is meant to help druids.
We would also need a way to punish people who are dumping the market with cheap potions.
And I think the prices are too high. Health and beer are ok, but the rest is overpriced. It would be impossible to establish them.
My suggestions:
live potion : 4 gold
beer (poison): 3 gold
Mana potion : 6 Gold (average rare stuff in it)
feeding potion : 6 Gold (average rare stuff in it)
Wind potion : 10 Gold (rare and far away stuff in it)
strong healing potion : 10 Gold (rare far away stuff in it)

You can only set rules for specific places ... maybe the town. But you can't punish someone who sells potion for cheaper prices outside these places!
You can establish this theory by the following system:
- all members of this guild sell their potions to them
- the guild has its own shop where the potions were sold
- the money will be given to the guild members
- no one else is allowed to sell potions in this town
It's a medieval system ... but it worked!

Waaah no, now you definitely mistook me.
The only thing we need, is an NPC to buy potions, and sell them for a bit higher price.
If a druid can sell to such an NPC, he would think twice to give them to another person much cheaper. Players won't buy too expensive potions too, if they can get it from the selling NPC.
It would make sense if this NPC had a stack of potions, the potions he bought, until they are sold out, else there would be a flood of rare ones !
The main thing is, there are some potions not meant to be cheap, because they should be a bit more rare, and more expensive than others. And the most important thing : The better healing potion, for example, has much more effect than the normal one. If you prize it down to an amount of money where it gets "cheaper" than the small potion, the small one will not be bought from anyone anymore, and become almost useless.
That means, the worth of the bigger potion should lie above the worth of the numbers of small potions that restore the same amount of health, else it would make less sense.
The only other way to achieve this, would be to drastically increase the rarity of the stuff that's in it.
Since the strong healing potion has a very strong effect, it should be a bit more rare, and much more expensive than the other.
Selling it at a price like 10 gold is a steal.
I would go that far to price it up to 100 gold...

Hehe, but if you have no NPC, a player must do the job. And that's exactly what I said!
But in my opinion it's unfair to give such an advantage only to druids! How about a NPC that buys and sells all things ...

Wait a few times and we have a blackmarked.
Usually i sell potiones for 5 gold, only wind and stronghealing for 10 and higher.
If someone wants more then 150 i give a discount.
Some pay with other stuff like herbs or gold nuggeds.
But i dunno how the price is at the future.

i didn't read the thread very carefully, but there's something i'd like to say
i like the idea of controlling the prics in game very much if it is played well. if some mighty druids come together and define a price, and decide to punish everyone selling below this price (except to some good friends in low magnitudes), even outside the town, this is OK for me. but you'll have to be aware of the fact, that this is (in game
) illegal, and if some others come and beat you up, you'll have to live with it.
i always wanted to do something like that in tibia for mages and their runes, and it never worked because we were not organized enough.
try it, be creative, be well-organized and don't be unfair and try to *role*play. it might be an interesting aspect to have a mighty druids-guild which controlls the potions-market in illarion. at least i find it very attractive
(and i can't see any outside-game reason speaking against it!).
good luck
martin

@kirk: this isn't a finished game, in fact it is far from it.
noone said that druids are poor (except you, of course) and wizards are strong. but it's a fact that druids *do* have a disatvantage, namely they are not really able to fight (which, besides all roleplay, *is* an important thing in a game like illarion! noone plays a char who stands at the river the whole day long and fishes!). the wizards will maybe be able to produce things otherones need or to provide specific spells or magic items etc.
don't start this "you-are-not-so-poor-as-you-do"-thing, which is really annoying. if druids decide to found a new guild controlling prices or selling potions via NPCs, let them do so. this *IS* roleplaying.

I donoone plays a char who stands at the river the whole day long and fishes!).

How are they unable to fight? Just because they can't cast offencive spells? I've seen a few very good druid fighters... They can make healing potions to fill in for their inability to case healing spell too.but it's a fact that druids *do* have a disatvantage, namely they are not really able to fight
as for prices...:
What would everyone think if I bought tons of potions and bought at:
beer (poison): 3 gold
live potion : 4 gold
feeding potion : 4 Gold
Mana potion : 5 Gold
Wind potion : 8-10 Gold
strong healing potion : 9-12 Gold
and sold at:
beer (poison): 4 gold
live potion : 5 gold
feeding potion : 5 Gold
Mana potion : 7 Gold
Wind potion : 10-12 Gold
strong healing potion : 12-14 Gold
The feeding/food potion should be lowered to at least as low as the live potion I think, because it mimics the effects of food (doesn't it?), and food is not in short supply. (The only real advantage is weight-wise they're light, isn't it?)
OK, would running these prices be good?

if i really want make money i can do it but then i think it is not enough rpgish anymore from me
btw i dont fight so much coz the damn monsters r stronger than in the past *g*
i do more healings (better resurections) than fights
why to hell r the wind potions soooo expensive ??
for what do u think shall i sell the arrows when i pay so much for the potions??

A NPC that buys/sells the potion would reduce the inter-player trade i.e. the roleplay possibilities. To set fixed prices for potions would be a topic for the rpg boar, not here (and then in an appropriate posting, like the controlling druid guild that was proposed)

the NPC would NOT ruin the player-to - player- interaction, IF he buys the potions for too few, and sells them for too much gold. Like :
Buying :
beer : 1
Life : 2
mana : 4
Feeding : 4
Wind : 6
Strong life : 8
Selling :
beer : 4
life : 6
mana : 12
Feeding: 12
Wind : 18
Strong Life : 24
That would only force the players to sell and buy at a price in between. It would just keep the druids from selling Strong life potions at a price of 2 or 3 Gold because they just went to the desert and searched stuff for hours. that ruins the prizes for those who want to roleplay a bit, and not stand there for hours and search and search until having thousands of berries and hundred thousands of capsules(thrown away).
If the NPC has a stack, and buys potions, until he has 250 of them (so he still buys but the stack wont increase) and someone buys potions (cannot buy more then 250 of one altogether until someone sold them to the npc), that would be a nice price control. So it would be a win for the druids to sell to the blayers, AND a win for the other layers to buy from the druids at a price between these borders =) That's what i mean.
And, it would decrease the amount of potions on the market a bit. I have heard several druids saying they cannot sell potions because everyone already has enough, and bought for a dammned cheap prize.
It's not my primary goal to set the prizes for the druids, but to control the amount of Potions flowing in the game. We still need some rare cool expensive stuff to make it fun ! Else, the strong potions would only replace the old ones.

i agree to damien.
further, such an NPC can also act as a kind of "transmitter", like "player-vendors" in certain UO-shards. e.g. they can only sell what they but, vendors can't keep infinite amounts etc.
@pasha: "the mafia is good but never forget the opposite side"
if characters organzie themselfes, it might well be that they don't care about the "others", but they will have to sell something.

Furthermore, a player, when selling and buying someting, should have a possibility to find out if the wanted prize is too high or too low. With these NPCs, we would not only set price ranges, we would lay the basement for a working market.

@ Damien Hmm beer 1 and heal 2gs ?? A empty bottle cost 2 !!
Prizes for potions
and then I think to find out if the price is OK is not so hard...
for example, you know how many healings you usually need and how much money you have/earn, so you can easily say, if you really need to buy small healing potions for 10 gold/piece or ook for a better price, can't you?
think about it

The problem is, you don't make a win in it - a glass bottle costs 2 Gold. You could get Problems with druids who wnt to earn a bit of money, and not make a loss all the time.
Interesting.

AHEM.
I am selling potions and rares, and have been since start of build 19.
If you run me outta business, I be very mad and will close off my store.

Then you should get some people together, and try to set a standard that forbids the selling of potions for such dump prices like 1-2 gold !
Prizes for potions
Hmmm, if you really think about it they should be like 35 gp
I myself sell them for:
Life Potion : 7 gp
Mana Potion: 9 gp
Food Potion : 6 gp
Pois Potion : 11 gp
Thats my prices. If anyone has a beef wit dat, I'd like to see what you call a reasonable price.
And no, 1,2, or 3 gp is too low.
Bror, can you make it so making potions cost mana?
That way I could at least reel in a few customers.
Say a guy is mass-producing life potions.
Well, if you run out of mana you can come to me.
This would also make it so the potions cant be made fast, like make 100 per minute. THATS unreal.
Unfortunately that would affect me too, lol, so just think about it Bror, I think is a good idea.

2 Gold is the bottle price. One gold for the common blossom and one for the druid's work, so we have a MINIMUM of 4 Gold. So 5 Gold would be a logical standard price.
In a mana Potion, we have one dditional medium-rare component. So its logical Prize would be 6-7 Gold: Minimum [2(Bottle)+1(bulbsponge)+2(redhat)+1(work)] = 6 Gold, logical standard prize 7.
So, druid makes NO win when selling healing for 3 and mana for 5 gold. He could simply sell herbs to druids instead, and would earn the same money in a much shorter time.

I'm not a druid, but I'd like to, if the prices would be higher... I would pay 7g for Mana, because I need it and I can't do them myself...
Please rise the prices just for roleplay =)
