Training weapons

Post by Beldir »

I think it would be useful, if there were really training weapons which make almost no damage like wooden swords, wooden daggers, boxing gloves...
What do you think?

Boxing gloves hurt. And weren't invented.

But yes, this sounds like a very good idea. Just to start off, people could use a wooden sword and wooden shield and learn some slashing and some parry and then need to use real weapons to gain more skill.

You could even put dummies and pillar thingies in that you can target and gain some skill depending on your weapon. The dummies would give less skill but the pillars would often break your weapon. If you have a serinjah sword you could get x skill and if you had a magic serinjah score you could get 5x skill or whatever up to a limit, e.g. with really good weapon you could get upto green after a while, but the problems with this would be: You wouldn't get a balanced amount of dodge and parry, and people might target it then walk off for a while.

But yeah, training weapons sound excellent.

Very bad/ corroded weapons do nearly no damage.

I support this idea only if the "experience" gained is greatly reduced.

But hey, who needs player support anyhow? ;)

Not if you're wearing some training armor like leather armor.

But yes, I agree with this, and I also agree that experience should be reduced, or that you'll stop gaining exp after a few skill levels.

My good, corroded, poison broadsword seems to do a fair bit of damage...

The greeks used to wrap leather around their hands during the olympics, it was a sort of 'boxing glove'

But that leather was more for protecting their hands instead of protecting the other ones face :P

but Im sure they still used such leather wrapping to practise against someone/something. Maybe its just me but back then there didnt seem to be 'too' much concern for someones health when they practised something.

edit: if you already wear normal leather gloves then problem solved I guess

Or bandages? Similar to what they use in kickboxing?

(though i think its more to prevent a dislocated wrist)

So either a piece of leather, or cloth?

(Hmm, lizards will have a problem here)

I´d say NO.

Suddenly everyone would do "duels" or dummyhitting with trainigequipment for hours until the skill is as high as possible.
You would just have to strg the dummy or a good fighter and wait, go to toilet, eat something or go afk and gain skill for it.
Would make it too easy for Powergamers.

good idea, allows for practicing without dieing. but, now dummy people to wack swords off of. targets for archery maybe, because that would actually allow practise of skill, but dummies for swords is pointless. you would learn more in 1 hour with a person then you would with 10 on the dummy.

*Bangs head on table repeatedly*

There's a skill limit of about 10% that you can get with training swords...

Keep banging maybe you'll eventually give yourself enough brain damage to make you think your playing illa with this implemented, ever think limiting skill via item in the fighting system is a technical impossibility? I'm pretty sure it is impossible. How I understand it is, it depends on the PC or NPC's skills which determine to whether you learn or not, not the items.

eh, i think its a good idea,
but something else to make it a least a little harder for powergamers is that you should have to *click* the target again like every five minets or so.
