Cain Sebastian Freemont’s Story
How he came to be

It was a fine morning, the sun was shining through the trees and there was not a cloud in sight.  Cain found it the best morning to practice magic outside his tree-cottage, where he lived alone as a peaceful Elara follower. Cain was typically a quiet bard throughout the day.  Although today was different, today was to be filled with…intrigue.  As Cain attempted to cast a spell of fire, his concentration was disturbed by a sound coming from deeper in the forest.  The spell backfired and struck him in the hand.  Luckily, Cain thought. I wasn’t too focused in the spell.  What WAS that noise?  Oh well.  Baffled and now realizing the pain of the spell, Cain gathered some money and started to trudge his way into the nearby town of Drundir.  I hate entering town. Cain thought to himself.  The people are so…unfriendly.  Well, it definitely didn’t take long for this town of humans to change from unfriendly to utterly vile.  As Cain approached the local medicine shop a small band of cloaked men bump into him on the side of the road.

“Arg!  Watch it you good-for-nothing elf.” One of the men growled.  How rude of them. Cain thought. They don’t even know where they are going!  A second man glanced over to see Cain watching out for them as they pass.  Taking the wrong message, the rather large human rallied his men and they surrounded the unfortunate Cain.

“What do you say we do with him boys?” A third man inquired.  “Shall we tie him up by his feet and let the blood rush to ‘is silly li’l head ‘til it bursts?” A fourth questioned.  The tormenting questions went on for a short time.  Then the large man, who appeared to be the leader, did something that Cain will never forget.  The large man grasped his dagger and drew it forth in Cain’s face.  He then proceeded to carve a large gash across his left eye, as though it were a reminder of the encounter. As the man re-sheathed his dagger, Cain felt the blood trickle down the front of his face like a faucet, but still he remained stoic. What else could he do…they had him backed downwards in a corner.

“Aww look at the poor li’l elf,” the third man stated.  “He looks like he is gonna cry.”  And with that statement, the four men began beating the life out of him for no apparent reason. Cain’s life began to flash him by.  Times from his childhood began to pass; all the human children that made fun of him because of his elven ears. The elven girl he was madly in love then passed through his mind.  She was a beautiful girl; more beautiful than anyone he had ever met.  She was the only other elf in that area.  They were to be wed soon that week, but she had been viciously murdered by an unknown band of people while running errands in town.  He began to loathe everything in those last seconds that he thought he was going to be alive.  Then some thing came over him.  He no longer feared the men nor felt their blows. He felt enlightened, as if inspired to do something for fear he might die.

“Ugnhhhh,” Cain moaned. “I-Is that the best y-you can do?”  Enraged at this, the leader drew his dagger and raised it high in the air, ready to strike.

“E-Elara, forgive me.” Cain muttered as he saw his opening.  And with that, Cain weakly opened his palm in front of the leader and let the magical energy inside him rush through like a powerhouse.  The blast from his hand knocked Cain into the wall behind him and immediately engulfed the leader of the group in flames. The grotesque smell of rotting flesh quickly filled the air.  The other three, fearing for their own lives, took off running, never to be heard from again.  Cain looked down at the man, his nerves still reacting though his skin had been completely charred and melted, and cried out, “Not like this…WHY?!”  Cain fell to his knees and wept with tears of frustration, rage, and complete disarray.  For he knew that it should not have come to this.  Unbeknownst to Cain, many human villagers had gathered around him.  As he stood up slowly, he looked around at the massive group that was around, whispering amongst each other.  The humans had assumed he had murdered someone, since they could not tell whom the victim was due to the severe charring of the flesh.  He was bound up and thrown in a cell, until the townspeople decided how they should punish him.  What happened next wasn’t even clear to Cain, but he claims to know what happened.  He claims that during the same night, when all the townsfolk were asleep, Elara appeared before him and helped him escape.  That night he ran out of town and stowed away on a boat whilst he had no idea of it’s destination.

The following day he awoke in a forest and thought he was home.  However he soon remembered what had happened and instantly began to wonder where he was.  As he walked near the end of the forest, he began to see buildings.  Cain, considering he had no other alternatives, headed into town.  As he passed the first few buildings he saw a man that he shall always remember.

“Greetings!” the man cheerfully said.  “You look like a new face, well if ye have any questions, I will be obliged to help.”  Cain, timid to this man and his surroundings, just smiled and agreed.  However curiosity began to fester in him.  “E-excuse me, but what are you doing there?”  Cain nervously asked.  “I’m farming, what else could I be doing?” The man responded with a smile.  “R-right of course.”

“Here,” the man said noticing Cain’s nervousness.  “Take some of this grain and do some planting with me.  Peasantry sure is the life.”  Cain, slightly relieved yet still skeptical about the situation, join him in his farming. “By the by,” the man noted.  “My name is Slinger.  I hope to one day become a great farmer.”  “My name is Cain, Cain Freemont,” Cain calmly said.  “I am currently a mage, studying to become one of the greatest mages ever.”  From there the two got along very well.  They went out and farmed and talked, Cain would sing about farming, all the while becoming more and more of friends.  Then that same day, Cain got inspiration that he didn’t even tell Slinger about.  His secret poem:

A man brought a town to shame,
And he ruined his own name.
But his name he shall reclaim.
For his heart is wise and tame.
Through hard labor is how he toils.
He works all day long.
But when the day is said and done,
He writes this little song.

Everyday he works on that song, hoping to one day finish it.

Ah, it may be tedious for now, my old friend... But soon I return, and we'll have a great big party.
Malt beer, ripe meat off the bone, and so forth...

Celebrate with me, my old friend, when the time comes....

Aye good Kalypse!
Long have I been gone, and many a time have my thoughts gone to Trollsbane. Well I can tell you as much as this; I am stranded on the mainland. Parlty due to my fear of that vile treacherous sea, and partly due to slight monetary woes. I fear I did not bring enough of my fabulous wealth with me on my trip, and as such Im having trouble finding a captain to sail me back.

I have ehard news of a friendly one who should be willing to help me, he is however away for the time being. Hopefully I should be able to make the perillous crossing sometime next week.

Ah! and one other thing, has anyone abused of my awayness? My fury shall be terrible if I come back and realise someone elses smithery and carpentry adorn the hands of all illarionites.

ah well, until then friends.
