At the bottom of a bottle (Open roleplay)

Post by morbiddez »

Drendell Da' Ruhk: Another moon conquers the grey skies of trollsbane, as yet again I sit at the bar alone with naught but a few coppers, a half empty bottle of rum, and my old lute. Quite frankly all i ever remember having. Strange thoughts enter my mind, suddenly memories that I have never experienced have emerged. In most cases I would cast it off as nonsense but with people, places, scars, and feelings to prove them.. something must be amiss.. Who was that elfess that night that acted so dissapointed in me... as if i knew her well.. Why do i wear the garb of a Knight? I most sertainly don't feel like one.. I feel helpless lost and guilty for all the terrible things I have done in my homeland.

Drendell shifts as the fireplace is lit, and a flash of light breaks his concentration..

A silouette of a person stands before the fire.

He swigs breifly from his bottle before an expression of discomfort takes his face. Who is this? Perhaps a bit of gold?

Drendell equips his lute and begins to play a sad melodic tune.

Kaila, a ghost of the happy elfess she used to be, drifts in the tavern standing near the door almost seeming to disappear in the wall but if seen at all has such a sad look on her face that most would turn away. Briefly with disinterest she glances at the silhouette near the fireplace then turns to look at the man with the lute appearing to focus intently on the Knighthood garb with brown eyes widening beginning to gleam with excitement and a breath of a whisper more seen then heard. She looks up into his face with hopeful anticipation.

The bard then looks to the woman and continues steadily to pick his dark minute. He watches and carefully studies the expression on her face. He stops his playing and rises to greet the woman with a distracted, yet concearned tone. "Is... there something I can help you with miss?

After hearing his voice while studying his face, Kaila shakes her head with eyes downcast while only a bare glimpse of the disappointment and pain she feels is seen. With the gleam of a tear slowly drifing down her cheek, shoulders slumped, she speaks in a low voice barely heard above the crackle of the fire.

"No, I'm sorry, for a minute I mistook you for someone else, a Knight I once knew."

After awhile Kaila takes a deep breath and stands straighter taking off the quiver from her back and laying her bow down looking patiently at him as if she has all the time in the world.

"Please continue to play your lute, I would like to hear your story."

Dren then nods, and hides his emerald eyes beneith his long black hair.. he then swigs from his bottle and and sets it down. Upon equiping his lute a shadowy vibration fills your soul.

Dren plays his song.

My existance is a dusty haze, however watchfull my glazed

green gaze, locked up in this dank dark cell i rot.

Family is make-beleive and friends are there untill they leave, it seems i

am the only one ive got.

Sanity escaping me, the only feeling i perceive is regret the rest is distant

memory.

Dren lowers the amplitude and strums steadily as he clears his throat:

When I was just a half elven boy, I lived all alone... there was my mother but she wasnt doing to well... I played my lute out on the street making money for ends meet.
I played this game till i was near 17 when i robbed my first man..
It was so easy.. such a high.. i felt remorse but i cannot lie, i needed the money. And i continued to become the infamous dren... on an isle far far from here. I took a boat to make an escape, left my mother with a little more than a drake, hoping to make something of myself in this new golden land. I live here for a year or more... or so I am told... now a knight.. its hard to get used to such a title... my memory fails me... I do remember being in love... She was a resilient elvish woman wih flowing black hair and vast radient eyes like two cool jeweled moons upon a dense maze of forest... Her name escapes me... the times we had... I do not know her but, but how I wish I could again. After my... injury... she was the first person i saw... and i had been gone for just over a year... I could not explain... i did not know what to say... or even who she was. she ran along and left me lost and lonely... Here i sit with my lute... tired, hungery, and confused to boot.

Dren looks up to kaila, his peircing green gaze cuts you like a shard of broken glass: "I am sorry for rambling so..... Its just that you are the only one who has ever really listened...."

As he swigs from his bottle his face distorts.. "I used to drink during celebrations.... **Sigh**... how about you tell me about yourself? You look very sad.. Im here to listen..." Dren's last words sound uneasy, and hesitant as he cautiously places his hand on her shoulder:

Her eyes widen while listening intently to his song. The pale appearance of her skin seeming to have more color while the unusual stillness of her bearing appears livelier as if his song spoke directly to her soul.
"Your song is a very sad one Drendell, but in a way, also beautiful."
Kaila lays her hand on top of his at her shoulder and looks into his emerald eyes.
"My story is simple and is probably uttered on everyone's lips. Last night as I was watching the stars fade from the sky, the dove's last cry, the grass fade to grey... "
sighs
"The hardest part when watching him go, was whispering softly the final 'goodbye' . Somehow your song helped me do that Dren".
With a peaceful smile, Kaila turns toward the door, then with a last look into Dren's eyes departs for the night and the forest.

Dren's expression becomes slightly refreshed as the elfess's deep poetic words tell him of the influence his song has had. The thought of a good influence upon any being is beyond his comprehension..

He is left speechless. Naught but a friendly, and curious leer lines his face as she turns and fades into the darkness.

As the door is closed behind her he sighs softly as his eyes eventually wander to the wooden bar floor. He takes his seat and unatentively studies the ever shrinking bottle of shimmering golden liquor. Reflecting on the mysterious elvish woman. And her few soothing words.

Airin Merrymount walks into the bar after playing for a crowd in the street. He has two new silver coins which he intends to use well... at the tavern. He notices the man the man sitting on the stool. He studies him a moment before saying,
"I couldn't help but notice your song while i was outside"
He glances down to his own lute and says, "I myself am a bard, and i can appreciate the sound of another."
He then walks to the barkeep and buys a few mugs of beer.
