Social anxiety?

Post by Selete »

Does anyone have any tips for playing a socially anxious character?

Not thier mannerisms, but how to get them into the gameplay!

How can yo get into the game when your character is too timid to say hello?

What do you mean? A shy character? If you mean a shy character, then I guess you need to use more #Me's then talking..

Yes, shy, but painfully shy. Someone who wouldn't call for the gaurds if he/she was being robbed, for fear of bothering the gaurds. (That's a bit of an exageration, but you get the idea.)

Thank you, I hadn't considered 'me' actions...

Good, I like shy characters :D . But yeah, its like a balance..the less a character talks the more he #me and vice versa, thats how I see it.

But how can you use '#me's to get into a plot?

Several Fairies are 'socially anxious' and do a good job with it. Are you sure you want to play such a character? It would be difficult to interact and RP with others, and hence may not be as much fun.
Also, several may not be so patient to try to befrend you if you are too hard to talk to. Just keep this in mind.

Otherwise, good luck!

I admit, I jumped into this character a little quickly. (The sad fact is, I thought he would be easy to play because his social skills are similar to mine  I try not to play characters who are smarter or more socially adept than I am, simply because I wouldn't know how to play them. )

He speaks well once spoken to, but has trouble striking up a conversation.

Who are these fairies, and is there any possibility of my watching how they roleplay? I think I could learn more that way.

Well, the sad fact is, fairies are hard to find. There are few of them and they avoid people, prefering to stay in the forest.

Perhaps instead of 'Socially Anxious', perhaps just be 'repectful'. Peasants, servants and people who know their 'place' in the world often do not initiate conversation, but wait to be spoken to. You can even go so far as keeping your head down if you wish.
They would bow, respect others calling them m'lord or m'lady, and always be respectful and willing to help. Over time, you will gain respect likewise as well as friends.

I have a charcter like this myself, who has become more of a Leader (Servant) now, but still respects all he meets.
I think this may be a better and more enjoyable way to go.

Thank you very much for your help, but it's not the mannerisms I have trouble with - it's the need to form bonds with other characters. Most shy people develope a social life based on their livelyhoods, but that isn't an option for a new character who doesn't have a job yet.

You did fine my friend, truely. You acted superbly and was curious yet cautious enough to catch my interest. Look foward to speaking to you in the future.

You make me blush with pleasure, Noon. Thank you... I had thought a week would pass without my character speaking to anyone! ^^; I am very grateful.
