Like an Elf

Post by Fooser »

It had been days since Fooser woke up as an elf. Quite a surprise that was. Kind of funny too, considering the way he use to treat different elves he knew. Know he was beginning to see what it was like. He walked into the tavern, stumbling a bit, still unsure of how to walk without a tail. It had been there his entire life, and now it was gone.

He went to sit down at one of the tables. The tavern was empty besides behind the counter. He moved his hand to his rear to push his tail to the side, and out of the way of the chair as he began to sat. But the only thing he managed to grab on to was his own ass. He shrugged, making sure no one was watching, and sat down quietly. Even the dwarf had his back turned, quietly mixing a drink probably.

Once he realized someone was there, he turned quickly, startled.

"Oh, Can I get ye anything?"

"No, no. I just need to sit. I brought some of my own food, if you don't mind me doing that."

"No, no lad, go on." He turned back around to the depot.

Fooser took out a long piece of bread. He looked at it for a moment and then took a big bite into it. Not use to smaller, differently shaped teeth, and a very different mouth in general, he bit into his lip, and his tongue. He pulled the piece of bread back out quickly, a small drop of blood on it.

"Eggggh....ow....damnit." He clutched his mouth a little. His tongue hurt bad from this. He clenched his jaw hard, trying to grab the pain. After a little while, it began to go away. He took out a small bottle of water and began to drink it, washing out any blood still in his mouth. He decided he would try this again later, and got up from his seat. Then he walked back out of the tavern, like an elf.

Fooser moved along the river bank. From time to time he looked down at the water, seeing his reflection. He was use to it by now, but it took a lot of time to do so. He sat down quietly, crossing his legs, facing the river. He slowly moved his finger down, inch by inch, until he barely touched the tip of the water. He quickly pulled his hand back out of the water. It felt cold. He felt cold. This was something he wasn't use to. Water felt uncomfortable to him now, like a barrier instead of an opening.

The wind seemed colder, or warmer sometimes. The bugs bothered him more. His skin was so much softer and flexible. He blinked, a bit awkwardly, and moved back from the water, still thinking. The thought of having to take a boat was new to him. He rode on them many times before, but now there was no second option. He felt so weak. He could only swim for a little while before tiring out.

But something made him feel good about this entire bizarre, horrible, mess. The fact that he could be with Sylveria without that feeling. The one in the back of his mind that would creep forward when he was alone. Things could never meet their full potential. He was just a lizard. But now, it seemed to much brighter, so much better. That negated all the uncomforts of his changed self.

The next day, Fooser returned, deciding to face this new complication. To see what other races felt when they swam. He went to a part of the river where very few walked past, and began undressing. He moved his fingers around, still adjusting to the difference. After doing this, he looked down at the flowing water. He hesitated for a while, and then dipped his foot in. A shiver went up his spine, hitting every vertebrae along the way. Instead of retracting his foot though, he kept it down in the water. He moved more and more into the water, finally deciding to stop the hesitation, and jumped all the way in.

He shivered a little as his head re-emerged from the water. The water dripped down onto his face from his wet hair, another thing that he had never felt before. He shook his head back and forth quickly, water drops going in all directions. Looking back down at the water, he decided to dive under and see how well he could swim. He used all his force and weight and went under the water, swimming at a slow pace, or it seemed that way for him. He inhaled a large breath of water and began to cough violently. He came back up to the surface, spitting and coughing up water, nearly choking on it. His coughing could be heard all around, but no one seemed to be there. His throat and lungs burned in a way he didn't understand.

Fooser moved to the river bank, grasping onto the muddly ground, still coughing up water onto the grass. He pulled himself up out of the river, feeling tired, heavy, and useless. He grabbed for his clothes and ran behind a tree, putting his pants and shirt back on. It was like a nightmare.

He began to laugh at this entire situation. Waking up as an elf. How bizarre. At the same time, it was something he had always wanted, in a strange way. Waking up in a way where no one would recognize him without him having to tell. He had made so many mistakes in the past that this seemed like a blessing. And then there was Sylveria again. He thought about her even more than usual. It was like a beautiful dream.

Feraiden stared at the elf, looking back at him in the growing dark. The elf claimed to be his friend Fooser. Despite the oddness of this claim, Feraiden seemed to trust him with a trust only friends would have.

"I've heard of this. Never thought I'd see anything like it."

"I don't even know why.." The elf took a large sniff, and nearly coughed, not getting as much air as he had expected.

"Mh...I don't even think I can help you, Fooser. This is all bizarre. Always full of surprises, you are." The priest had his hood down, as always.

"I didn't ask for your help."

Feraiden gave a quick look of confusion, then seemed to make a realization, and nodded. "I know."

A few moments of odd silence went by. The wind blew through the trees and bushes outside of the tavern. Night time was very close.

"So, you just woke up this way?"

"Yeah..." Fooser responded, almost with a hint of impatience.

"I'm sure we'll figure this out..."

Problems on the island were beginning to gather once again. By this point Fooser had realized that the island was just one giant cycle, going up and down like a wave in the sea. And now this problem with the dwarves was as hot as ever. The people of the island were dividing while the temple was still at large. People hadn't learned a damn thing. And it was drepressing. No one was willing to budge on either end. The temple would no doubt be causing mischeif in the future as well.

Fooser lifted the pipe up and lit it. He had gone back to smoking that very day, something he was not very proud of, but seemed to need nonetheless. Things were so busy, and so problematic. He let the smoke from the pipe go unobstructed into his long snout, breathing it in heavily.

He barely had any time to think about Sylveria.
