Long Ago, In a Far Away Land... - In a villiage not unlike t
It was a land of great size, tucked away in a far corner of this world. Astral lay in a comfortable bead in the Warriors Academy of the city. This town was the largest city of the land, and the Warrior's Academy was the main source of profit for the city. Suddenly he was awakened by screams emmanating from the town outside. There was shouting of the villiagers about some sort of attack, and some people that were already fleeing in fear.
Being one of the top students, Astral jumped from his bed, grabbed his armor and sword, and raced outside. All he saw was mass panic and fear.
"Brrrr!" he muttered as he rushed out into the cool morning air of the city. He was frantic to know what this was all about. Suddenly he found one of the teachers of the Warrior's Academy.
He hurried over to them and blurted out "What's going on?"
The teacher replied "Thats what I am trying to find out. Let's go to the Watchtower and take a look."
"Let's go!" Astral shouted above the sounds of screaming, already moving forward. Still wielding a sword, he made his way through the mass of people. He heard comments of "You have to do something", or "Please help us" as he rushed by.
"I'll do my best" he answered to them. He saw the teacher, who had been stopped by a group of hysterical villiagers who demanded that action be taken. Astral had no time to spare though, so he turned and ran again towards the tower.
When he arrived at the tower, Some other students were already gathered there. They told him to go up and take a look, and they would hold off the people trying to get up. When Astral finally reached the top, he looked out the lookout window, and was shocked by what he saw.
Masses of what appeared to be red skeletons were gathered in the siege plateau surrounding the city. Astral also noticed a man who seemed to be floating in the air. He looked again. Still, the man was hovering above the ground. He wondered how this could be happening and how skeletons had become animated. Suddenly, a flaming rock flew up from behind the horde of skeletons and headed straight for the town.......

Chapter Two:
Astral lunged to the door of the tower and yelled above the crowd "Everyone take cover now!!!"
The villiagers all scrambled for cover as the first flaming rock hit just outside of the town wall. There were screams as the wall crumbled under the tremendous force. By then all the warriors had gathered trying to fortify the defenses. It was no use. The second flaming rock shot high over the wall and hit the main Warriors Academy tower square in the base, and soon after, it tumbled to the ground with an enormous crash.
Some guards stationed in the tower reported that there were five catapults behind the horde of skeletons. The headmaster had already called in the most elite archers of the academy. They were instructed to use flaming arrows on the wooden catapults. The first round was fired.
Most of the arrows fell short of the target, but some hit the catapults setting them ablaze. The second round was more succesful, and the rest of the catapults were burned. The catapult operators had fled the fires and were now being given weapons and armor. Suddenly, the throng of skeletons began to move forward...

Chapter Three:
As the skeletons moved closer and the archers shot flaming arrows, Astral was making sure that the villiage people were safe. Some younger students were dispensing weapons and armor to all those willing to fight for the cause. The skeletons began to emerge through the large gap in the wall created by the catapult. The elite warriors slayed skeleton after skeleton, but they did not cease to pour in. No casualties for the town yet.
The skeletons then used some sort of magic powers to enlarge the gap in the wall, thus allowing a larger attack front. The headmaster was now commanding the force and doing a lot of fighting himself. Most of the villiagers had already been escorted to safety by younger students.
The skeletons then stopped coming, but the ruins of the wall blocked the view. The tower guards reported that a large force was gathering outside the wall and about to rush in, but it was too late. The skeletons were charging at full force catching student after student off guard. Many lives were lost at that point. Astral was lucky enough to be one of the warriors who were prepared for the attack. After much fighting the headmaster called for the students to retreat. The skeletons did not move to block them, but rather seemed to allow this action to occur.
Astral wondered about this while while the group was hiding in a nearby cave regrouping from the attacks. Why did they just stand there he wondered? He found that he was very tired, and soon fell asleep...

Chapter Four:
.....zzzzzzzz..... (Astral sleeps).....

"HELP!!!!" Astral shouts as he suddenly awakens. The others drop their discussion and turn to look right at him. "ummm..." he says, feeling very embarrassed. The Headmaster turns back at the group, without saying a word to Astral.
"Things are not looking so good right now..." says the headmaster, attemting to regain the group's attention, "We will have to pull together now. Are there any questions?"
"What kind of supernatural powers have created these skeletons?" asks one student.
"As of right now, we do not know. But that will be question will be left until this fight is won" he replies.
"Where are the other villiagers being kept?" asks another student.
"They were taken to another villiage beyond the reach of the enemies." replied the headmaster, "They will be protected there. We will have to go back out there soon so I want everyone to get some rest. We will take turns of resting and guarding. Thank You."
And the night went on, but nobody slept very well...

Chapter Five:
The next morning, everone was still tired from the night before, as many had gotten little or no sleep. The headmaster waited until everyone was gathered in the main room of the cave before speaking.
"I hope everyone is ready for the battle ahead." he said with a stern look on his face. "We will need to fight with all our strength and effort in order to overcome this evil. We will set out back to the town when the sun reaches the top of Mt Dermion. Thank you all."
And so everyone went their way preparing for the fight ahead. Astral went out to the front of the cave to check the time. The sun was half way up Mt Dermion, so they didn't have much time. He hurried back to his quarters, studying the expression on the people's faces. Most people showed a look of disbelief and awe, and some simply sobbed. He proceeded to get on his armor. Then he made sure his sword was perfectly brilliant. He was ready with a short time to spare.
He walked calmly back to the main room, where the warriors were beginning to assemble. The headmaster was making sure that everone was ready for the battle by talking to each of them individually. He came to Astral.
"Now, we can not have you falling asleep in the middle of this..." he said with a touch of humor.
"Don't worry Sir." Astral replied.
"Good. Then I will be counting on you to show them how it is done out there." the headmaster replied, tapping Astral on the shoulder before continuing on.
Astral watched as everyone wearily prepared to go out into the cold morning air.
"May I have your attention everyone... Your attention please!" shouted the headmaster above the voices of the mass of people. "Today is the day we prove our skill and show people who we are. Today is the day we will defeat the evil forces that contaminate our land. Let us fight in the name of the Warrior's Academy, and all that is good!!"
The crowed cheered wildly as the headmaster waited.
"The time is right, Sir" said one of the students as he rushed in from the cave opening.
"To Victory!" Shouted the headmaster.
And so the Knights charged out into the morning air, ready to face the evils that await...

Chapter Six:
When they reached the town, all they saw was destruction. The skeletons had destroyed the town in it's entirety. The warriors waited in the nearby forest for the right moment to charge. It had come. The headmaster motioned for the attack to begin and everyone sprung out of the bushes. They raced toward the gap in the wall. The skeletons turned and drew their swords.
The sound of banging swords was heard all across the town. Skeleton after skeleton was defeated by the cunning soldiers who had rallied under the headmaster. This was not done without casualties, however. They had already lost about seven people to the demons.
All of the sudden, enemy soldiers dressed in black began to rise over the wall. Astral looked again. They were flying! They swooped down quite clumsily, but managed to catch some people by surprise. Still, the Warriors Academy faught proudly.
Most of the skeletons were now dead. The flying soldiers continued to take lives though. As the next soldier came down, the headmaster leaped through the air and stuck his sword through him. And he did it again, and again, until the last few soldiers began to fly away. The skeletons had been defeated.
The crowd cheered as the headmaster walked up to the door of what used to be the Warrior's Academy and put the main entry sign back up with pride. He turned to the crowd and shouted "It will be rebuilt! It will be better than before! It will be prouder than before!"
The crowd applauded as the headmaster continued.
"For now, everyone will have to find somewhere to sleep, tents will be made soon. Guards will be posted to make sure no skeletons are left." he looked directly at Astral. "Thank you all for the success."
Astral smiled, turned away, and set of to find a place to spend the night.

Chapter 2:
Weeks passed as the ship sailed through the open seas. On the second day of the fourth week, the mystical land of Illarion became visible over the horizon. The captain called all the passengers (23 in total) to the main deck.
"There she is!" said the captain happily when the passengers had gathered "The mighty land of Illarion!"
Astral stared in amazement at this new land shrouded in mystery. He wondered what new adventures would take place here. He pulled out a scroll from his pocket.
"Korwin" he read, "Lives in the town of Troll's Bane. The house number 7516."
He had been given instructions by one of his travelling friends to find Korwin, and he would help him adjust to the land of Illarion.
A few hours later the ship was in the dock, and Astral was already on his way to Troll's Bane. As he grew near, a swarm of insects flocked towards him.
"Begone!" he said angrily as they buzzed around him.
Just then a man appeared out of the forest. The man seemed to speak silent words with his lips. Suddenly a great ball of fire appeared near Astral and the insects were no more.
"You're new around here, aren't you?" the man asked inquisitively.
"Yes. And what might be your name?" replied Astral.
"I am Korwin, forest Ranger" said the man, "And you are Astral, correct?"
"That is true. I came to this land and was told to seek you out. I was told that you would be of some assistance." said Astral.
"Come with me" replied Korwin instantaneously.
And so Astral followed Korwin back to his nice house in Troll's Bane. They sat down for some tea and chatted for a while.
"I noticed that you seemed to summon a ball of fire in the forest. How might one do that?" asked Astral with great curiosity.
"Ahhh, the realm of magic!" replied Korwin with a smile, "I knew that you would ask, being new to this land. Learning this magic is a complex task. I will explain in more detail in the morning, for you have journeyed long today and are weary." Korwin gestured Astral to follow him down the hall and pointed to a spacious and confortable room to the right. "This shall be your room for the night. Rest well, for tomorrow there is lots to do. Good night."

Chapter 3:
After many hours of confortable sleep, Astral finally awoke. He put on his armor and ventured down the hall. He saw that Korwin was already sitting at the table reading a scroll.
"Good Morning!" said Korwin turning to face him, "Did you sleep well?"
"Indeed I did. Thank you for your hospitality." replied Astral.
"Come sit down and have some bread. Then I shall tell you all about this magic." said Korwin pulling out a chair.
Astral sat down in the nicely adorned chair and Korwin passed him a piece of bread along with some condiments.
"To use this magic, one must first learn the secrets of certain runes. Here is a simple rune. Learn this rune, then learn more of these to combine." said Korwin passing him the book titled RA.
"Thank you." said Astral kindly as he studied the old looking book.
After the meal, Korwin showed Astral to a quiet and well lit room with a view of the forest.
"You may study here." said Korwin, "I am going out for a while now. I expect to be back by sundown. I left some lunch on the counter for you."
"You are too kind!" said Astral happily. "Thank you."
Korwin smiled and left the room.
Astral sat down in the confortable chair and opened the book.
"RA, The Rune of Fire" it read.
Astral studied the book for many hours. He stopped for the nice meals Korwin had left when he felt hungry. Just as he completed studying the table of known runes, Korwin walked in the door.
"How have you faired?" he said as he entered the room.
"Very well. All I need now is to learn a second rune." replied Astral happily.
"Alas, it is quite late. You had better get some rest. Remember what you have learned today, as you will need it to use it tomorrow." answered Korwin in a tired voice. "I need rest myself. Finish this book and then rest."
"That be true" he said looking out into the night. "Good night."
Korwin nodded and left the room.
Astral took a last look through the book before he closed it up and set it on the table. He walked down the hall to his room and stretched out on the bed. He soon fell into a deep sleep.

Chapter Four:
The next morning, Astral awoke late to find a small meal and a note sitting on the table. The note had been left by Korwin, who had left long before. It read:
"I have woken early on this bright morning and i expect to be gone for a good part of the day. Alas, i once again cannot be there with you, so you might go for a walk about the land. Venture to house number 8629 where you will find a man named Inioch. He will assist you today in my absence."
Astral ate the small meal and then set out around the town. Many people were busy today, for it was market day. He found his way into the slightly newer area of town and soon came across a cozy little house bearing the number 8629. He tapped at the door gently.
"Ahh, you have arrived! I have been expecting you for some time now." a man said while making his way to the door, as if he already knew who it was. The man hastily opened the door and beckoned Astral inside. "I am Sir Hope, Inioch is my name."
"I am Astral. It is an honor to meet you." replied Astal. "I slept long this morning and have not arrived until now. Korwin said that we might go adventuring."
"Yes, that is what we shall do. Just let me get my walking shoes and we will be off." Inioch slipped his shoes on and they stepped ouside as Inioch quietly closed the door behind him.
"Where shall we go to?" asked Astral as he looked around in awe.
"We shall follow the river east until it ends. Then we can go off into the forest and venture to an ancient temple deep within." Inioch replied with enthusiasm.
So they were off down the river. The sun was mid way in the sky as they approached the end of the river.
"Here is where we may sit down and rest our weary bodies over some biscuits." Said Inioch.
"I too grow tired. Let us rest now before it becomes late." said Astral happily.
The lunch bag was unpacked and they sat around a makeshift campfire. They ate many biscuits then, for they had travelled far already. Astral turned his head and looked over the river. Just then a bright gleam caught his eye. He strained his eyes and could make out the shape of a circle made of bright gold moving down the stream. He plunged his arm into the water but did not catch it in time.
"Curses!" he said as it slipped past his fingers.
He ran further downstream with all the speed he could gather hoping to catch the object again. Inioch sat back in amazement as Astral flew down the riverbank like a shooting star. He came to a spot where the current was weak, sort of held back into a pond. Astral suddenly dived into the water with and enormous splash. He remained underwater for several moments fumbling his fingers around the object. Inioch had already gotten to the area. Astral then stood up and climbed out of the clear, but cold water holding a shiny object in his right hand. Inioch stared at the ring for what seemed to be minutes. It was very bright, and if you looked hard enough it seemed to have a bluish tint, but very faint. There was also traces of writing on it, but very small and worn out.

They both agreed to return to town at once and consult the council of Korwin.
