First ever post, welcome me please. Try not thinking at all. I always use the name Sidrat as my internet alias, but in this game I believe I'm going to have to use something more interesting/imaginative.Nerian Finera wrote:maybe sometimes it's hard to think of a good name for your character, but you should be able to give a name to your character....just try hard and you'll have some success (the way i named my char)![]()
(and i hate it, when someone takes names out of tolkiens books to use them for himself)
If you can quickly list ten or so names on a piece of paper, don't think about quality yet, just get them through your head and onto print, then move on. Surprisingly difficult at first, but works with almost everything, from story ideas to comic punchlines. When you've got the names go have a nap/coffee or beer and THEN go through the list, it's important to break it up at this point because your head might still be cloudy. Out of a list of ten to fifteen I'd be surprised if you didn't get atleast one or two that you liked. It works honest.

The method to some of my names:
1. Close eyes. make sure you have somewhere open that is ready to be typed in.
2. Spin around in your chair if possible. If not, proceed to step four
3. If completed step two, make sure self is facing keyboard
4. Smash hand on keyboard
5. Open eyes. Look at letters. Rearrange, adding vowels if needed.
6. Tadaaa, you have a unique and occasionally silly sounding name

after making a char named poots that somehow got his name approved, (since it's my online name most the time) a gm made me delete my char. I looked in the back of the lord of the rings book for the family trees of the hobbits (not a good Idea I warn you now) after not likeing any of the I just went to bed. 12 at night my head pops off my pillow and the name Allen pops out my lips.
thus the creation of a little hobbit named...Allen.

For humans: Take some ordinary. The last name can be quite creative, but I always imagine myself that humans have normal names on Gobaith too. Such as Manuel, or Martin, or Stephen, or Lisa.
For elves: Take something that sounds melodious when you pronounce it, and ofcourse somewhat extraordinair. Lots of vowels and open endings seem to do the trick
For lizards: Make a name that makes your tongue curl, that sounds a bit slishy slashy as I like to say. Lots of s-es and z-s seem to do the trick here. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be pronouncable by normal human tongue.
For halflings: Think...Peasant names, or cute names. Strange names that seem a bit retarded or overly done. Like....Thiffle Thibblethumdum. I could easily imagine a halfling named like that.
Always a charm is also to work in something with feet or hands. Like....Leafhand, or Tinyfeet. You know what I mean
For orcs: Something that sounds brutal, that is easily remembered (considering their attention-span). Grokta is an example.
For dwarves: Something that involves steel/diamond/rubies/gold/silver/etc that sort of things. The first name is always a bit tricky, and I am afraid I cannot give you any hints on that.
I hope I was of some assistance.

They are unique names mostly.
Belgram, Ghorn, Brendill, Friedwulfa, Tirana etc

Humans, I try to use Old English, Celtic, Gaelic, Latin and Greek names for them and then try to make a surname the sound medieval.
Terrence Deadwood
Paul Knollhill
Iris Desertspring
ect . . .
Elven names I usually just make up by sounding them out, the sounds must give me a feeling of other wordly feeling.
D'arna
Mernell
Tarlion
ect . . .
Orcs are hard to come up with but keep it simple and no soft sounds is my rule of thumb.
Crusk
Maruk
Krell
ect . . .
When going through Dwarven Names I usually use names Nordic and German in origin [and some from Norse mythology] then alter them to sound harsher.
Freykia Thunderaxe
Thoran Bloodstone
ect . . .
Halflings should be on a little of the silly side.
Twilly Butterbottom
Meftle Swallowfield
ect . . .
Lizards should have prolong l, s, and z sound. Basically something a person with a lisp [such as my self] will have a hard time pronouning.
Szard
Lasallz
Zassi
ect . . .
